Android Software Thread - Tasty Desserts, Tastier Apps

There's this fucking brilliant app that I found on AppBrain, it's like this "Emo Girl Puzzle" thing, and I'm quite sure it's the best one I've ever seen. I got a weird feeling looking at the screenshots on the market page for it, so I downloaded it and played a good 4 or 5 levels. I'm relatively certain that at least half, 75% or perhaps even all of the "hot emo girls" whose pictures you put together and then have the option to save and view at your leisure are men. Other Gafdroiders please find this and check it out to verify. Link is this, I think.

Edit: fuck that, that was broken. How the hell do you post QRs?

It was always there....

Maybe you just didn't notice?

It has been there since the droid/milestone were released, at the very least, i believe it is in previous (1.x) versions of android too

edit: which rom are you using saunderez?
Yes unfortunately I guess HTC do things a little different.

I'm running LeeDroid 1.9a. Not sure if this is a rom thing or a Desire thing.

Yeah, I believe you are right.. they are saying something about desire roms only having root read access to the system partition, while the other phones have write permissions too

I just got widget locker, it's cool but there's a problem. When I don't have widget locker activated I can turn the volume up or down on my music player without having to turn on the screen. If I use widget locker and have my music going it doesn't work. I know I can use the volume buttons to work under the settings in the app but if I'm not playing music it and I accidentally bump the volume rocker it turns up the ringer which I have set in vibrate during school. It also turns on the screen too, nice app but a shitty deal breaker. Love 24 hour return.

Edit: NVM, I fixed it. LOVE THIS APP!!!!!!

Is anyone good at figuring out problem apps? I can't seem to figure out what is causing my launcher to crash occasionally. It happens in different ROMs that are quite different so I'm starting to think it's some app I'm using. I've uninstalled a few and am trying to figure out which one it could be but this process could take forever. Any experts out there at this sort of thing?

You could hook it up to your PC and view the log (logcat) to see whats going on when things force close.

I think you might need to install the SDK + Eclipse to do that though (I might be wrong)...

I need a recommendation for an RSS widget that will show more than one feed at a time. Unless someone can tell me how to do this in FeedR.

so it's definitely not ready for primetime, but i like the concept of slidescreen. I'm curious what everyone here thinks...

One of my colleagues uses it on her phone. I think it reminds her of Windows Mobile.

I personally think it looks aesthetically nice, but not all that great from an actual ergonomics/usability standpoint. However, judging by the number of people rocking the all text homescreens in these threads, I guess there are a fair amount of people who will happily sacrifice usability for aesthetics.

I agree, but with tweaks I think it could be a pretty solid alternative. Specifically once they get an API going and I can hook touchdown up to it :D

You can do this, but it cycles between feeds and doesn't show them in the one widget concurrently. I add multiple FeedR widgets to the one screen to get around this.

You are wrong. :D

Just the SDK will allow you do it by hooking up your PC, or you can use an on-device viewer like aLogcat.

Hey. I am using the HTC News app. I want to add an RSS feed from a website but the popup of what app to add it to doesn't include the news one. Does anyone know a way around this?

Thanks!

Might have missed it, but anyone recommend a blog or site for news about software/android news/etc that is mobile friendly?

Okay, so the moment some of us has been waiting for is almost here. Meaning good games coming to Android. Beta for Angry Birds is starting Friday, register here.

Not sure if this has been discussed, but what's with android having such a massive gap between the icons on the grid? Maybe it's personal preference, but I prefer how apple keeps everything nice and tight. I have the original droid and am hoping the android 3.0 will have a new gui that brings the icons closer (i doubt my phone gets this upgrade). You could probably get another row if you moved everything closer.

With either ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro, you can change the amount of icons per row. I prefer the default 4 because I like being able to see my wallpaper.

How do you do this in Launcher Pro? I know how to change the number of rows, but I can't find the option for the number of icons per row.

Are any of you guys Android developers? Or know of any developers with successful apps?

The developer GameHouse is giving away a free game that anyone can download though, Tiki Towers. Just follow the link below on your Android device. Let's make this developer pay for screwing over us Android Doodlers.

"Update: We're searching for the next platform to jump to. Stay tuned for more info! To alleviate your pain, we’re giving you Tiki Towers for free. DL on: http://bit.ly/btdma1

I'm on a rooted Droid running Froyo build FRG22. Is there any reason I can't get my phone to find this app in the market?

http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.com2us.HB3D

I have the demo version on my phone and play it a lot, so I was going to pony up the cash for the full thing, but the only version of the software I can find at all in the market is the free Japanese version. Just wondered if the app was actually gone, or if there's something on my phone keeping me from being able to find it.

Aurora Feint unveils OpenFeint with cross-platform mobile multiplayer and voice chat

android/iOS Device.

On the same day as Apple announced the rollout of its iOS Game Center platform for next week, Aurora Feint, creator of the OpenFeint social network for iPhone/iPod Touch, says it will enable real-time multiplayer gameplay between iOS and Android devices later this year with OpenFeint PlayTime. The new developer tools will also allow real-time voice chat during gameplay across both mobile platforms.

"Traditionally, multiplayer technology has been accessible only to top tier developers. It's just too complicated and time consuming," Aurora Feint CEO Jason Citron said in the announcement. "So we invented PlayTime, which literally takes one day to integrate into a casual game."

Features will include VoIP, lobbies and matchmaking for "casual games," expanding to incorporate team-based voice chat and 16 player game servers for "core" titles.
pretty cool.

Cubes (beta) at the moment. Should be released a paid version within a month or two, depending on how a few features flesh out.

disclaimer: those screenshots are not indicative of the latest build. :lol

Any previews as what the new build of Cubes is going to offer?

The killer feature we're working on now is user made levels. When that's done, we're going to offer the users a lot more flexibility in their creations than Cube Runner ever did, and we're going to keep it as simple as possible. Music is coming soon, as well as multiple difficulties. Once we get past the custom level framework, things will really start taking off. That's the plan, at least.

Custom Car Home. It's for use in the car, so if you don't use some kind of car dock it probably won't help you, but feel free to check it out. And if you have a Desire... could you tell me if it crashes for you? :lol

Can't tell you what I've worked on professionally. Got a couple of apps I'm knocking together as prototypes in my spare time. One is a slightly odd clock widget, the other is a photo display app.
