A Youtube Leanback remote app hit the market;

F ya! New opera browser lets me connect to my school wifi now. Before all the browsers would tell me of a certificate error as I need to login on a website. :lol :D

I just figured out the deal behind finding the golden eggs. I could slap myself for not noticing that :lol
The ads now being at the top of the screen instead of the bottom suck hard though. We need the paid version pronto, as it has messed up a few of my games since I couldn't see the damn bird.
Whats the secret to the Golden Eggs?

Well, as simple as it is, I never noticed it until last night, but...

On the Golden Egg Screen, each egg has an imprint on it(treasure chest, 3 stars, "?", etc), and each imprint is a clue as to where you find it. Found three of them last night. I felt like an idiot the moment I made the connection lol

I have a Droid X on Verizon and just got the same thing. I'm fairly certain that today is exactly one month since I got my phone, so maybe that's why it was pushed out.

It's not for Microsoft though, it was asking me to upgrade to the pay version of "Quickoffice." It looks like there's a $9.99 version on the market, not sure if what Verizon preinstalls is a trial version or a lite free version. I use it to look at PDFs though.

Looks like they just unleashed these out, I got it too. Ad notifications, seriously? That's terrible...

I recently updated from 1.6 and every browser I tried lacked gifs. This is the first time i've noticed gif animations work on Android.
My stock captivate browser did not do gifs as well, first time for me.

Ah well, that explains it. I've informed my friend. Thanks.

What does this do exactly?

It's an Android app that's essentially a remote control for YouTube on a computer.

What are the best sites to check daily for Android news? I mean, I always check Engadget, but I want something specifically geared to Android news.

Downloading Opera, I won't be able to give it a full spin until tomorrow (spotty service where I'm at), but I hope it runs great, I hate the stock browser.

This works pretty well, and kind of addictive, actually.

Also makes me wonder the long-term viability of Google TV (as far as requiring dedicated GTV specific hardware) - with this kind of setup, I could just as easily hook up a standard PC/laptop running Chrome browser and control it via an Android device remote like this...why not?

Have there been any hints on when Launcher Pro is getting the big update?

I finally figured out how to change my lock bar using widget locker, anyone know if/how you can download other ones?

Is Verizon messing up numbers? I sent a text to my friend earlier today and got a 12 year old texting me back from a different number. I just got a voicemail from ESPN talking about ditkas radio appearance on a radio show tomorrow.

I still don't get what this app does.

Hook up your laptop to your living room HDTV. Open your youtube account but point it to http://www.youtube.com/leanback

Now using this app you can browse, skip, forward, etc, your Youtube subscription or favorite (or even search) without using your laptop.

This is useful for watching youtube in a living room set up, specially if you don't have a Google TV device.

So I have that Gmail bug where I can't download attachments or preview images attached to emails. It's extremely annoying. Worse yet, if you have a G2 (like I do), Engadget is saying that there's no way to roll it back to the previous Gmail version.

Sorry if it's already been discussed, but has this bit anybody else?

Am I using Listen incorrectly or can it not store more than 1 podcast at a time? Every time I go to change show it needs to buffer or redownload it even if the podcast had been d/l'ed previously

Something might be up, my wife sent me a picture of our dog and his new toy (and toy bone) and she said it went to ***9 instead of ***8 (but I still got it).

After messing around with Opera (to the best I can), I really like it. Wish I could find a way to setup my start paget though (want google, not the opera page).

So far my major complain with Opera is how pages load. I will fully load a long webpage like a gaf thread and when scrolling down, it is blank and takes a few seconds to reload whats there.

Not really a fix but I have a shortcut to a neogaf.com and you could probably do the same with google to instantly load into that. Not exactly what you want, but works.

hey anyone know wtf is with my evo and the switch for daylight savings.

example.
--------
girlfriend: hey! coming over now
sent at 8:56
me: awesome see you soon.
sent at 9:57
---------

though i replied less than a minute later it says 8:56 and 9:57.... so let me continue this.

--------
girlfriend: hey! coming over now
received at 8:56
girlfriend: want me to pick up anything?
received at 8:58
me: awesome see you soon.
sent at 9:57
me: not its fine.
sent at 9:59
---------

do you get what i'm saying. so its sorting the messages in this weird order because it registers daylight saving for outgoing, but not incoming?

There's a setting for how many podcasts it will store at a time, but a single universal value for all podcasts. So if you tell it to store 10 podcasts and you have 10 different podcasts you like to follow, you're obviously not likely to have more than 1 episode store locally for each one. If you haven't already done this, go to the Listen home screen, bring up the menu, go to settings and look for the storage settings. You might just need to increase the number of episodes it stores locally.

Unfortunately, you still won't really have any direct control of how many episodes it stores per podcast, other than to download manually.

Its just a minor complaint, they'll add it in a later version. Its the first release. I can still search from Google on the startpage. I'll get used to it.

Well, the incoming messages would have already been timestamped by the phone that sent them, so they're fine since the other phone obviously adjusted to the time change correctly.

Is your phone showing the correct time on the status bar?

yeah. my phone is showing the correct time... as for the people i'm getting texts from. i am getting texts from verizon, and t-mobile. and i've verified their time is correct according to their phone.

holy crap Opera mobile is way faster than the stock browser on my Intercept. yay animated gifs!

some oddities and scrolling is a bit weird but its a good trade off so far. looking forward to flash support.

swype beta update just released to those in the beta... has voice to text button... FINALLY! And its pushing a whopping 10mb now. :(

Hi all. I've developed a stupid little app to help you decide where you should eat. It's basically just a list of locations and the app will randomly pick one for you to go to.

Anyway, it's my first mobile app and it's pretty much just to learn about the development lifecycle of them. I plan to release it on the market for further learning experience too, but before then I'd like to get feedback from just a few users.

App can be found here: http://www.jlbeard.com

This is the groundwork being laid - have plans for a game for my next app.

Thanks!

Voice to text!!! Yes!

I had to muck around with uninstalling, restarting and reinstalling to get it to work, but after a couple tries it's all good. Wish this were smaller or could live on the SD card though =/

With Gingerbread rumored to be just around the corner has any videos or screenshots of 2.3 been leaked or released? Has anyone seen what this thing looks like or seen a hands on?

There have been a couple of screens, but they're of the system info screen or the home screen, both of which look pretty much like Froyo. The only thing that's known right now is softer borders on windows and a green tint on some menus/icons, like the home screen dock.

Support for it is not nearly good enough yet to compensate for the N1's low internal storage. At least not amongst the apps I've tried/used.
That's too bad. I'd like to go back to stock to not rely on updated cyanogen mod releases for firmware updates. I think I'm still on 2.2, but not the 2.2.1 and I know I would be lagging on the Gingerbread release waiting for the latest final build of the custom ROM.

This is so clutch. I was actually using the standard keyboard a lot this weekend because I was doing a lot of voice texting.

The new Google voice-to-text is so accurate now. Before the upgrade to the new version, I would pretty regularly end up with mistakes in my voice texts. Now it is pretty rare if I'm speaking clearly. My only complaint is that voice texting doesn't capitalize the first letter of the text.

posting using opera mobile, seems pretty slick at first glance
I just tried to install and run it. Installed fine, got to the Opera Mobile splash screen, then it kicked me back to my home screen.

Then I uninstalled it. Guess I'll stick to Dolphin HD.

Any word on when android will get a CHASE bank app, with camera check deposit? And/or an update to the PayPal app with the same camera check deposit functionality that the iphone version has?

anyone else get weird serif font in opera mobile on facebook? or just me? :O

I got it when i was writing the gaf post. Turns out I can't find a user agent switch to force mobile/desktop versions of sites, and it doesn't like to play with flash, so it may not be worth it

The only thing that Opera Mobile has going for it is the speed, oh and the fact that it supports gifs.

There is something weird about the way it load pages, can't really tell what it is though. Aside from that, not only does it still not support flash, but the video player that it uses is pure crap, specially for youtube videos, why use their own player instead of the fraeking youtube one?

Yeah the more I use it the less it seems to pass muster...

What's the best push messenger app? The Meebo iPhone app has push, but not Android. Not fair!

Does the Google Talk app use push? I'm worried it's a drain on the battery.

i keep seeing people say how it supports gif's. but so does the stock browser. i'm confused. or is that a froyo only feature or something?

I've had Google Talk running on my Nexus sometimes for weeks without noticing any hit on the battery. Sometimes I forget I'm signed in. I believe most of the Google services have PUSH, including Voice.

Battery drain will come when you actually start chatting it up, since your screen will be the component that will drain most of the battery.

Google Talk uses push, it's completely safe to leave it open. Aside from it, you have Pingchat and Whatsapp, they're very simmilar. The only difference is that Whatsapp costs like a couple bucks a year but is much more stable and cross-platform with iOS, Blackberry and Symbian.

If you're looking for a multi-service IM app, you can check Trillian (not in the market, downloadable from their page). It looks like it has a "push" mode activated when you check the battery-saving feature but AFAIK it doesn't work that great and tends to get stuck on poll mode very often, though the battery consumption is not that bad.
