Wow, just saw the keynote. Pretty epic 2.2 Froyoness.

That man can't interview Conan O'Brien, but he sure can make fun of Apple a lot.

Anyone having trouble downloading apps from the Marketplace today?

Kick off a download and it just hangs "Starting Download" :(

I'm curious if its related to changing my googlemail account to a gmail account yesterday :/

It probably is that. Have you changed your login details in settings > accounts & sync?

Actually, have just changed my account back to googlemail.com and it is now downloading about 20 apps :lol :lol :lol

Wasn't a new email address as such, UK only had googlemail.com accounts until recently, you could switch to gmail.com if you wanted, seems to break your android market account though!

I heard Froyo is coming to first gen devices too, but gimped without flash, and im ok with that. but what are the chances that its actually coming to my mytouch/magic

Ah, another abused MyTouch user. I don't think we're getting crap, my friend. 1.6 for life, yo.

What’s Coming Next..
Posted by Cyanogen in Home on May 21, 2010

A whole bunch of us have been working hard to get Android 2.1 (CM 5.0.7) running perfect on the HTC Dream and Magic phones and I think it’s nearly ready to go. This release is almost exactly the same as the Nexus One and Droid versions of CM now, minus a few of the heavier apps.

This was an incredible community effort and I hope everyone likes the result. Breathing new life into old hardware is always awesome.

I expect that a stable release of 5.0.7 should be ready for all devices in the next few days.

And after that.. Google has confirmed that Android 2.2 (FroYo) will be available for ION phones, so it’s guaranteed that CM-6 will continue to support the G1 also when the source code hits AOSP.

When I am going to update to the latest release, I can just use the CMupdater and not have to worry about multiple steps like I rooted the first time right?

I am absolutely FLOORED by Launcher Pro.

It is SO FAST. And it's great, very functional.

No need to be rooted.

Seriously, I have a Droid and I used to be annoyed by its jerkiness... now everything is incredibly smooth.

Go get it and don't look back.

In a way, it totally killed my need for Froyo.

Regarding stock 2.2 on the Nexus One and color tackball notifications, it is present. It isn't customizable, though. It looks like at least some apps will have color notifications probably according to the dominating color in their logos.

I was briefly previously running cyanogen, but for some reason, it was just too unstable for me. It was great with all of the customization, but not worth the instability while doing just basic tasks.

So they change something about the calendar DBs, I assume? Cal widgets other than the stock one don't seem to work now.

Likely, since exchange calendar can be view with the stock calendar. Some code had to be re-written.

Since I had heard of the issues xScope was having with 2.2, I selected to have the default browser launch whenever I press the new grey browser icon. Now that xScope has been updated, I want it to launch whenever I press the grey browser icon, but I don't know how to go about making it so. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you tried setting xscope as the default within the browser? That should trigger the pop up window asking you which browser to use when hitting the launcher icon.

Why would anyone want to use Xscope with 2.2's super fast browser? Surely theres no way its faster now?

It is also awkward with Flash. xScope's menus are displayed below Flash and Flash also continues running when the xScope is in the background. I expect quick fixes for these things, though.

xScope is still webkit-based. Does it get V8 for free?

At this point I still use it because of the way it handles tabs, copy and paste, etc (UI). The stock browser is great, but it is not as efficient as xScope is when navigating between pages.

Anyone else go from a custom 2.1 ROM to the one released by Sprint for the Hero? It's slight, but it's slower than the DamageControl ROM I was running the last few months. PEACE.

What's everyone using for their Podcasts? Is "Listen" by Google Labs still the best free option?

This thread list various podcast options, both free and paid. You may want to read through and try out some of them mentioned. I personally use doggcatcher. For the couple of bucks it costs it's well worth it.

hows the live backgrounds on N1 with Froyo? and the multitouch?

neither of these things bother me on my desire, but hmm..just curious.

It's gotten better in recent updates. I used to hate the organization of it, but that's improved and it does scheduled syncs now, so it will go out and grab new podcasts automatically. It still does only audio podcasts, but it looks like it might be adding video podcasts in a future update relatively soon (thanks to Google TV).

I've heard that the battery life of an Froyo upgraded phone has been downgraded a lot(to an hour). Is that really true? Has there been any influence in the battery with the new upgrade?

Is there any way to disable the "panning" of the wallpaper when you switch homescreens in HTC Sense? (the wallpaper I want to use would fit the size of the screen perfectly but with panning it doesn't work out)

Not that I'm aware of. Find a bigger version of it so you can crop it to 960 x 800.

Just grabbed Zeam Launcher (up to 9 screens!) and Slideme marketplace (new store!), both are great addons for those of us stuck on the older android iterations.

Slideme is a bit unstable at time, but nothing really problematic has occurred other than a couple of hiccups here and there.

Not that I've seen so far, it's been about the same over the past two days.

Anyone else with cyanogen get random music playing at times. It has happened to me about 3 times. Today, it was during a final >_<
No. Maybe you have unlock with trackball enabled, the phone unlocked, scrolled to music widget on your home screen, and played?

Andy Rubin: Android Will "Give You a Blowjob" “Blow Your Mind” in 6 Months

Gizmodo had the pleasure of sitting down with the godfather of Android – you know him as Andy Rubin – and he had some interesting things to say about the rate at which Android innovates today. Specifically, he says that getting into a good software iteration process has helped the team find a groove that allows them to bring us stuff that’ll blow our minds 6 months at a time; this is opposed to the initial 18 since the first Android phone has been introduced.

http://gizmodo.com/5546246/google-the-next-6-months-of-android-will-blow-your-mind

• It's actually "pretty random" what goes into every version of Android, and they don't plan more than one release out
• There's not much they can do about phones with custom UIs lagging behind on new versions of Android
• They know the keyboard could use some work
• HTC may very well be on their own with Apple's patent lawsuit
• The next 6 months will "blow your mind"

HTC, you on your own son!!

How can HTC be on their own when they build the damn Google phone itself? What do you think would happen to the nexus if apple won?

Google would have to pay HTC to pay Apple. Then again the Nexus one was not a huge success in the retail market. The biggest success for Android hardware wise is the Droid (Moto) and they are not being taken to court. Maybe the Droid Incredible could be in trouble?

Maybe it's something about company size. HTC is probably a much smaller company when compared to Motorola.

Moto has a much healthier patent folder than htc, apple will target weaker links

It's a bad transcription of the interview. The interviewer asked about HTC's patent/licensing situation specifically wrt to the MS requests, but then the interviewer turns that into a response about Apple for the summary. They aren't really the same kind of situation, so no reason to expect Rubin to offer exactly the same response.

Mine is doing this as well, though I'm on stock 2.1. It's really frustrating. No idea why it's happening.

No way it's getting unlocked accidentally, I have a pattern set. It just... happens.

Probably lacking the patent portfolio of Motorola as well.

Windows 3 came out 20 years ago. Completely different situation than what's occurring now Goog.
