lol, yes, it was an apple sentence.

I'm kinda warming to the idea of native full voice control on the phone. I'm going from meh to okay

Didn't Google just roll out piracy options to developers?

Link.

yeah, but i'd like more info, when do they push it, what has dev feedback been, who is using it?

http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2010/08/just-speak-it-introducing-voice-actions.html

To use Voice Actions, tap the microphone button on the Google search box on your home screen, or press down for a few seconds on the physical search button on your phone to activate the “Speak Now” screen.

Speak any of these commands to perform a Voice Action on your phone:
send text to [contact] [message]
listen to [artist/song/album]
call [business]
call [contact]
send email to [contact] [message]
go to [website]
note to self [note]
navigate to [location/business name]
directions to [location/business name]
map of [location]
And of course, you can still conduct a Google search using your voice.

If you have another phone with Android 2.2 (like the Nexus One, HTC Evo or the original Droid), you’ll need to download several app updates from Android Market to get all the latest goodness:
Voice Search (this app includes Voice Actions)
Google Search widget
music apps (e.g. Pandora, Last.fm, Rdio, mSpot)

I'm guessing it's using the new push intent framework.

Ah yeah. Still, voice stuff was built into 1.6. At least support 2.1, which is the majority right now..

I am very pleased. Voice search is cool but it always feels limited; making it so simple and powerful is a nice surprise.

It has an option for "Note to self - do the laundry"

Where do these notes go? I guess I'll find out in a minute, just wondering.

I don't think it's necessarily the voice commands that are the problem, but rather the app activation based on the command. Granted, I'm sure they could have found a 1.6 friendly way to do it, but they probably want to try to push 2.2 with this. Esp. since the other announcement is apparently Chrome2Phone (lol).

Kinda cool:

He's saying that people look up phone numbers in their browsers then manually transcribe them, which is silly. He highlighted a number in Chrome and Chrome-to-Phoned it, and the phone started dialing.

The technical information is linked from that article. As far as who is using it, it is only open to apps for 1.5 and above that are paid through the market so that appears to be the audience. Other than that, it was just rolled out like 2 weeks ago, so I'm sure it's going to take some time for developers to start giving feedback, etc.

And after nosing through the technical pages a little, it seems to already be available to developers.

The set alarm function is telling me to download the new clock. Going to downloads to look for updates keeps giving me an error and I don't see a clock when I look at all of Google's apps...wtf.

Exactly my question. I can't download now, so let us know.

Emails it to yourself. Argh.

Yeah, it's definitely a complicated guide. That's probably a part of the reason we haven't really heard of devs using it yet.

I'll probably be using it when I publish my game. Oh! Which reminds me, I was wondering, would $1.99 be a decent price for 15 levels of a 2D platformer? A lot has been made of the free apps situation in Android, and I've heard other devs say you shouldn't undercut yourself, but on the other hand, I don't have Market access so I don't know what people are used to paying.

Are you going to make a demo with the first level or two?

Yes. The demo will probably have three levels, each from the first three "worlds" (to use Mario terminology.)

lol, they never should have iced Google Notebook.

Edit: Andrex, $1.99 sounds more than fair for that amount of content and is certainly inline with pricing I've seen for other Android games. Whether that gets you a lot of buyers is another story.

As long as it doesn't seem outrageous I'd be fine with however it does. Personally, the biggest reward will be seeing it finalized and in motion. Thanks for the advice. :-)

There isn't a new version of the clock in the market!
AFAIK the clock was always a part of the OS. I guess they are splitting all these OS apps like they said they would. But no Clock update in the market.

com.google.android.deskclock

not in the market.

Nope, I'd pay that price. However, is there anyway at this point for you to integrate bluetooth controls? I use my Wii remote to play, and I don't want to play a platform game with the screen. It just feels terrible. If I could map my controls to the Wii remote, you have an automatic sale.

O_o so Google had a press event for apps we already had access to? (Search bar is the same and we have Voice Command on HTC phones!)

Well the updated voice search is new I believe, and the only thing new about Chrome to Phone is that it is now on the market.

I know with my HTC (Aria) I can use navigation commands, I don't think other commands (like call or sms) initiate the phone though. The voice to text stuff works on almost anything that pulls up the keyboard though.

everything that chrome to phone does is because of 2.2, although not sure why voice commands are 2.2 only, unless the hooks are in 2.2 to pull the commands.

and i'd definitely pay 1.99 for a game. I'd pay up to 5 for a good game without a second thought.

2.0+ I think.

Edit: It's not on the market. Someone posted a link a number of posts up to register for the beta, etc. Here.

Got it, I assume the beta does not allow more than the 3 base columns for now? I synced it with my PC tweetdeck but it didn't bring my columns.
