free app that works with barcode scanner to make lists of all the games, cd's, movies, books you have by scanning them and putting them into categories ... very useful for me... I'm not OCD but since I got this I've been going crazy tearing up my room trying to scan everything I own. it lets you export the list to other places and has a list for things you loan to other people.
I will have to get this, even if there is no practical use for it. :lol

Finally found the ideal settings app, IMO - Quick Settings. Ideal, because it resides in the notification panel to keep most settings essentially one click away. Lists free memory, free storage, battery percentage, volume control, on/off switches for wifi, 3g/edge, gps, etc. and all of these settings are hotlinked to the full settings in android settings menu. So, click the battery icon and you are sent to the android battery usage chart, etc. It even has a flashlight feature that will use the camera led flash or a bright white screen depending on the model of phone. You can also configure which settings appear in the quick list. Just about perfect.

Also kinda dig CallTrackwhich can take all or part of your phone's call log (Incoming, Outgoing and/or Missed calls) and turn them into calendar events. Simple app, worth using if some of your calls are business oriented - makes it easier to track time.

HTC are tweeting from the99percent.com conference in New York today and tomorrow... I don't think they've got any speakers there, and they may just be sponsors of the event - nothing more - but I can't help but wonder if they may also announce that 2.1 rollout for Hero etc.

I might check this app out. Thank you for the heads up.

Love it, thanks.

Anyone else enjoying the mlb at Bat '10 app?? I'm loving it so far. I just wish I could get live video over the phone.

Go Yankees!

I tried it out and scanned a bunch of stuffs. It's kinda barebones but it's organized and it works. However, I just found out that the developer pretty much stopped any development for this.

So for some reason my Droid went Rogue on me today and all my texts were gone, which sucks because I had some funny stuff and kinda important info in there. Its the first time I had to use mybackup pro, but it worked quick and flawless and put all my texts and mms back where they should be. Really awesome app and worth the few bucks to avoid a headache later.

Besides the ui and live video the apparently isn't much different. I'm enough of a baseball addict to enjoy it. Plus I'm not going to pay for MLB.tv

I know people think the benchmark is Zenonia, but there's apparently anothing action RPG in town that's getting some positive reception. Here's a review at a blog. It's called Caligo Chase.

By the way, is there any interest for an official Android Gaming Recommendation & Discussion thread? The misconception is that Android gaming doesn't have much to offer, but from Abduction to Raging Thunder 2, Replica Island, Speedx 3D and Asphault 5, there are plenty of solid, quality titles, and I think it would be cool to make them known.

Yeah I was thinking about that... but I already said this would be the conclusion to the trilogy... :P Maybe wait a little longer to see how gaming picks up.

Sounds good.

edit: For anyone who had the same problem, in settings-manage apps, you can show hidden ones by doing menu-filter-all. I needed to reset the browser defaults but browser is hidden, had to do some digging to figure out how to fix it.

I would like to try Asphault 5 but it does not show up in the Market for me. Not sure if it is not available outside of the US or something?

I'm from gaming... >_>

I'm just joshing.

Anyway, the SMS thing happened to me twice now (where they all go AWOL for no apparent reason). Is there a good SMS backup for free on the market? Im looking but theres like a million and I don't want to have to test them all :(

I bought "fast camera" yesterday.
Kinda neat, super cheap so it was worth it.

Image quality sucks, it only takes low res photos, but it literally takes them as fast as you tap the button.
Gotta be good for something.

Is there anyway to change which app opens up when you press the hardware camera button?
I've dug through every settings and preferences menu but can't seem to find it.

It would have to be in the app itself, I believe. Try contacting the developer and asking them if there's a way and if not to add it to the to-do list for the next update?

I'm not sure what the best SMS backup app is, I just went all out with MyBackUp Pro for backing up everything. If it could happen to texts, I'd want to be prepared if something goes wrong somewhere else :/

Yeah but if we make a gaming through wouldn't it have to go on the gaming side of the forum...?

*shudders*

haha, that's what we have subscriptions for.

For anyone wondering, Missing Sync for Android is garbage. Hadn't seen any reviews or opinions on it, and I was bored and thinking how cool it would be to wirelessly sync all that data, so I gave it a shot. Really slow. Really ugly, buggy, just gross. Opening a complaint ticket, we'll see how that goes.

Stay away!

I don't know, but there's an m.abc.com with full episodes.
Yeah. I went there before, but they only have watchable episodes for the iPad. LOST on the go would be awesome. I appreciate the reply though. :)

I've been looking for a RPG of this nature, so thanks for posting. I'll check out info on Zenonia, too. Any news when CC hits the app store?

yeah, the live video is a big miss :(

Someone needs to write a media player for Android that will launch via the web browsers and play the m3u8 playlists that services like TVCatchup.com use -- there is no reason why Android can't deal with these MLB vids or ABC videos you guys are talking about if the iPhone already plays them, and someone writes the right app for them.

On a separate note!

I learned a trick the other day... if you want to maintain a 3G/HSDPA connection but you tend to keep flipping back to standard GPRS for whatever reason type this into your phones dialer:

*#*#4636#*#*

That'll get you the 'testing' page. From there go into Phone Information and choose WCDMA only... if you're not in range or don't have the signal strength for a 3G/HSDPA connection then you won't get a signal at all, but if you do, it'll force it that way. The normal setting is WCDMA preferred. Unless you're on a network that doesn't use CDMA/WCDMA of course.

You can also link to that testing page using Better Cut. Make a link to Activity > Testing... simples!

Question!

I don't have a data plan on my G1. My school has wifi but I can't get on it. With my ipod touch I connect to the network, bring up the internet, then a "pop up" prompts me to accept and then brings in a terms and conditions page and after I accept I can connect to the internet. I never get the pop up on my G1 - any thoughts?

Also, my battery life seems really sucky (at least in my opinion), I think I remember reading on gaf somewhere about monitoring what is using your battery life and to manage that - how can I do that? Is that an app from the store or something already on the device?

^^ Download Power Manager (I think that's what its called), and have some widgets on your desktop to turn off stuff like wifi and adjust brightness when you're not using it. Turn off 3G as well. The G1 battery life is terrible anyway, I ended up buying an extended life battery and its great, but it makes the back half about twice as thick as before.

Is anyone else disappointed that Locale is $9.99 now? I loved the beta, but it seems a little high in price.

Is there an app similar to this, but that also has the ability to display a rotating list? I would like to put my games and movies in a play-list of sorts; so that one night I play game X, then I mark it as played in the app, and then the next night I look to see what's next in my queue to play. I know, it's a bit OCD, but it would be a nice app to have.

Anyone know of an app that syncs your photos in the background to the cloud, so that my images are basically always synced to my computer? I'm going to start looking now, but if anyone knows of one, I feel like it's a pretty obvious idea yet I've never come across an app like this.

Also try Lookout, it backups up pictures, contacts, virus scans apps on your phone and has GPS tracking to locate your phone if lost and send an audible tone so that you can find it. I LOVE it.

Didn't know about Picassa either, should've guessed it was part of your Google services by default, so I'll definately look into this tonight.

Thanks for the info on Quick Settings! Also Call track is nice, not for me but several of my pals REALLY enjoy it.

is there a snes or gb rom player for android?

yes both are on the market

edit... a new story just came out that android flash is still on track for 1H2010, not 2h2010 that was reported in a different story. So, considering 1h is almost over, in the next 2 months.

Guys, go to the Adobe website and sign up for Flash for Android 10.1 Betas. I did yesterday, was a 5 minute affair.

I knew this had to be posted here already. :lol

Any idea when they might choose the Beta invites?

i think right now its the most full featured. I have it on mine, but thats not saying much :)
I put it on mine when I got my phone about a week ago or so. Having to do that pattern thing every time to unlock my phone is annoying (especially when listening to Pandora in the car), but I guess it's worth it if I ever misplace it. Plus the thought of bricking your phone from orbit is kind of cool. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an official Android one out there.

I've only done a few quests but so far caligo chaser is great.

Tip: u can hold the attack button down for combos instead of tapping it.
