not sure if this is the proper thread to ask but im planning to upgrade my verizon contract in the next few weeks and get the droid X.
my question is, is there a way to bypass (not pay) for a voice plan and just pay for data?
Alternatively using skype service ($5/month unlimited) to replace my voice plan on verizon?
thx for any insight.

Is there a way to uninstall the stock bloatware I'm never going to use? (myspace, google talk and all that)
Myspace? Which phone/company/carrier is putting myspace on their stock roms? Jesus.

I know you chose your words to spite all the people who automatically hand over their life to Google, so, yes, I'm getting trolled, but Google Talk is not bloatware. It's very lightweight as far as memory usage and data usage and is a very neat app in all its manifestations. Once you've disabled automatic login, there's no logical reason to uninstall it, and the only purposes in looking to do so is some kind of OCD about "controlling" your gadgets instead of them controlling themselves and/or making some kind of F U statement to Google.

Samsung on their contract-free phones. It also came with Layar, Switchers (there are more complete apps for this out there like Quick Settings), DivX VOD and Google Navigation. I wish I could uninstall them, as they're eating some precious megabytes and I don't need them at all.

Well, I mentioned it because I don't use it at all. None of my friends use it either (we're msn and facebook chat guys here in Spain) so it's just sitting in the app drawer taking space. And it has the bad manner of starting itself automatically from time to time even when I disabled the auto start. It's the perfect definition of bloatware for me. No trolling purposes, just my opinion on it.

Well not necessarily Android related but I always wondered why don't stores implement apps for their stores. I have a dream where one day you can walk into stores, and scan a barcode and download a small app and it's a map of the store, you can search for items and tells you exactly where to go. FUUUUUUUU it would be so convenient.

did they update gmail on 2.2?

when I load some of my email with webpage look it doesn't fit the screen, and its zoomed in. I can't seem to pinch to zoom-out.

Gmail sucks like that, it's always been like that. I don't understand how Google can fail so hard on html emails on their own OS.

Ah, but Gmail on Android is still one of the best e-mail clients for mobile OS's, and definitely the best way to access Gmail of any of them (including the mobile site.) So good. :D

I might just end up buying LauncherPro Plus to support the dev. but I can see HTC pulling a C&D order as soon as he sells this. Right now is the best time to buy because he's going to raise the price once he starts adding more widgets. I only dig the weather and calender widget.

I bought it. When I set the People widget to VIP contacts only, none of them show up. Sux.

I have hardly any pics of people on mine but that's because they are all generally facebook pics and they don't currently sync as facebook won't allow it.

they did update it, but i dont believe that is fixed

So... I'm looking for some kind of widget and I'm started to get annoyed. I want a calendar/agenda one that...

- Shows a full month calendar in the widget instead of just a list of tasks
- Allows to add/edit tasks without kicking you to the ugly-as-sin stock app
- Free (or at least as cheap as possible).

I haven't found a single one that covers all that D:

Pure Grid Calendar

its the full month widget click on a day which makes u add task while still remaining on home screen.

Blech.
It's the best way to access Gmail. But it is not "so good."
It's way closer to terrible. It can be soo cumbersome.

I hate that it doesn't load to my labels list when it opens. Sometimes it takes FOREVER for things to send even on wifi. It's ugly as sin. There are about a billion and half issues with. I just don't understand why Google doesn't make something as crucial as their email application remotely pleasurable to use. Like most things on Android, it works.. but it's a chore.

Also bought LauncherPro plus

Edit. Hmm.. very HTC like widget.. hopefully HTC doesn't get their knickers in a twist..

anyone bought this yet?
might buy it for the calendar, messaging and bookmark widgets

Hmm, I'm kind of torn. I like the People widget alot (almost looks Windows Phone 7-esque), but I've already put shortcuts to my five most contacted people in one of the three docks and that works really well. I've already bought Pure Grid Calendar and really like it (it's also skinnable, not sure if these Launcher Pro Plus widgets will be, is there even a pic of the calendar widget anywhere?).

Then again, it's only $3 to support what I think is the best launcher.

well bought it for future updates

No calendar or bookmark yet. only people widgets (not even going to use it)

Anyone know of any good, free pool/billiards games?

edit- ditto golf games

Yeah that's a shame, there's no way to sync them up?

It seems pretty borked, set it to Favorites and only like half of them appear.

intoductory price is $2.99. Hold off any longer it could be $3.99!!

I know but I like it the way it is end since these widgets are basically Sense replacements (and I've adjusted to life without Sense) there's nothing really compelling for me.

I like Launcher Pro, I'm just not amazed like many other people are. I'm still going to buy Launcher Pro+ though. He has cool widgets like FB and SMS coming, and I'm happy to support an Android dev.

i bought LP+ mainly for the future. So far LP has been the best launcher out there imo and delivers in every aspect of this phone and its potential as a smartphone. All i see if more and more craziness from LP dev in the future.

so I'm officially picking up a Droid Incredible tomorrow and returning my iPhone 4. Good move? Bad move?

Both are awesome phones. I prefer Android over iOS, so I say good move. All of my favorite things that I do on my Droid are simply not possible on iPhone. Do you know how awesome it is to remember a second before you're about to run out of the house that you downloaded 2 killer new songs and want them on your phone today...so you take one second to open your browser, drag the files into the box on the webpage and then run out of the house while it transfers to your phone over the air via 3G? There's tons of cool stuff like this you can do with Android.

You trade in a bit of the polish for a lot more power and function, and Verizon is a great network. It's worth a shot.

I would think that if you were going to replace your iphone 4, you would replace it with a more modern phone. Isn't the Incredible kinda old by now?
(probably should've asked this in the hardware thread, though, lol.)

Err. Widgets that are custom to it. :D

right now its just the people (HTC's Favorites) widget. Others will come over time per the Dev's post.

Another good thing about this new Plus version is that, if sales go well enough, I’ll be able to actually hire programmers to help me develop LauncherPro even faster. So even if you don’t have a use for these widgets, you should consider buying the Plus version to support the future development of LauncherPro.

from what I've read the droid X isn't very good. And beyond that, what's better than the incredible?

Huh, I hear a lot of people love the Droid X (like Leo Laporte. He's more or less switching from an iphone 4 to the Droid X.)

There's also the Galaxy S (or wtv its called on wtv carrier you're talking about.)

Where are you from? Personally, I think T-Mobile is the least rip-offy of all carriers. Their 3G network seems to be pretty fast (based on the very informal tests done by CNET,) but I guess their coverage varies based on where you are. Also, they offer plans without a contract, I think (like, when you don't buy the phones subsidized) which ends up being cheaper, which it seems like Verizon doesn't do.

Other topic: Does anyone use the ustream app for android? Are you guys able to watch anything without it having to buffer every 5 or so seconds?

What, did you only read the Gizmodo review? The response I've seen has been overwhelmingly positive. I absolutely love mine. It's fast, the screen is gorgeous, the battery lasts quite a long time, and the build quality is absolutely top notch. This is the most solid feeling device I've ever owned.
