Thanks! That wasn't quite how I fixed my problem, when I went to the display contacts options, I saw that I had facebook twice (I also had it twice in sync) took out one of them and all is well.

Edit: I remembered what 2. was.

Anyway to change the 'swipe to unlock' screen to something completely different? I know about the grid unlock screen, not fond of that either :(.

I got that Contact problem because I was constantly flashing new ROMs, and every time I did, I would back them up (export them to SD card), and then import them back in, forgetting that my contacts are saved to Google's cloud. The solution for me, was to not have any Phone contacts, and put all of the information on my Google contacts, so that when Google restored everything when on a new ROM, everything would be perfect already. And Google's contact stuff, while evidently still in beta, makes it pretty easy to manage the contacts.

For the unlock screen, that sort of thing is typically baked into the ROM you are using, but some ROMs do allow you to change the lock screen (like Fresh for the Evo). If you aren't rooted, you can't change the lock screen. If you are rooted, you can pick whenever ROM you like, but choices for lock screens are still pretty limited. There's the stock one and HTC Sense's unlock screen. There may be others beyond that, but I don't know of them.

Is it true 2.2 allows for more app storage? My friend's Incredible (running 2.1) is showing the "low space" message.

(I cleared the gmail app cache and the notification went away)

2.2 has the Apps2SD thing. You can have apps installed on the SD card, instead of the internal phone memory.

Good! I've seen posts saying otherwise, as if the feature was not included for every phone running 2.2.

What exactly causes that Low Space notification? I thought the Incredible had 8gb of internal storage? Or is it the 512MB worth of ROM that gets depleted when you install apps?

Anyone know of a good message widget that his similar functionality to the stock motorola one but looks better? Basically just being able to see a new message on the widget when you get it and reply from the widget.

I'm pretty sure every implementation of Froyo out there has the Apps2SD thing going. Good way to check is to download "App 2 SD" from the Market (it's free). That will show you easily which apps can be moved to the SD card.

As for the Low Space thing, sorry, I don't know more. It could just be a cache thing. I've read elsewhere (though not for that particular phone) of people with similar problems, where clearing the cache fixed it. So maybe the phone gets bogged up or something over time. One of the monitoring apps on the Market may shed some light on it.

Edit: I think I misunderstood. I assume the internal storage of the Incredible is treated as "external" in the sense that it's like a permanent SD card. It's not where the system and root partition lies. If that's the case, then yes, the internal root/system memory space is where apps normally go when you install them. There are ROMs out there that allow you to change the default install place to the SD card. So I would image that yes, the Low Space notification is about the real internal memory, not the external-but-internal 8 GB.

Handcent SMS has a popup notification feature, but it isn't a widget. HTC Sense has a widget for that, and Launcher Pro will eventually have one that's very similar.

Pure Messenger is your best choice, but it isn't free.

Edit: On second thought, don't take my word for Pure Messenger. I don't know if you can reply from the widget. It may just be like Handcent's widget, which simply shows the message.

Both Handcent and ChompSMS have widgets..

Handcent is free and in ChompSMS if you want to remove ads then there's a little payment for that in the app..

Is there any software that can change your notifications? I basically want my phone to vibrate every X time if I don't answer a text. My old phone would do that. Makes it easier for me since I rarely hear/feel the first notification.
I have the samsung captivate btw.

Why hasn't someone made a single app that allows you to change the colour of the trackball LED for each of the main notifications? I'm talking SMS, Gmail, call, missed call. Surely they haven't made it impossible to do that have they?

I'm loving flash on my Droid. The one issue I'm noticing is a lot of sites force you to the mobile version with no "full site" link option or obvious way to switch to the desktop version - so I haven't been able to use flash to ditch the Newsy app and use Newsy.com. Which sucks.

I've been having a lot of fun playing flash games, they perform really well and it's great that they can have nice quality graphics or gameplay without needing to be installed like games from the market. I like G-Switch from Kongregate. The Flash showcase was a good idea; it's a cool place to kill time.

So is flash "officially" available with 2.2, Moto Droid specifically, or what?

equap said:
nope can't do it.

why don't you just root it?
It's an option for sure, but when there are separate apps that can each change one of the notifications as is, it seems silly someone hasn't done one that allows you to change them all.

Does Froyo have bluetooth voice command? I don't see anything different in the settings menu, and I haven't been able to test it in my car yet. PEACE.

Got me a Desire yesterday and loving it so far, but some things are annoying me. One thing, I hate how the browser reformats and repositions everything when you zoom in. Is there a way to turn that off?

I've got a Desire, but with a custom rom - so I'm not sure if this will be an option, but give it a try.
In the browser, hit your menu button->more->settings->check the "auto-fit pages" box

I personally like that the text reflows to fit the window size, it means i don't have to scroll left and right as well as up and down

I have to say coming from the crappy stock android music player the Touch wiz music player on my Galaxy S is a dream. Very ipodish, cool disc view, handy lock screen widget and task tray controls. Theres certain things Google can learn from these custom skins thats for sure. Over all I really like touch wiz, I tried putting launcher pro back but the phone feels so barren and boring.

yeah had the same thing happen here
i started using SMS popup which lets you change the LED alerts for texts (which is really the only one that i was concerned with). blink was just too irritating and sort of a resource hog (6 mbs for that?)

I was under the impression that Bluetooth voice command IS part of the Froyo update.

Just wanted to recommend screw the nut for flash androiders. Its a fun "use physics to get object to that object" game with nice graphics, good engine and a nice 3d effect. Runs so well and looks great in full screen, it makes you scratch your head at the naysayers of flash.

Sorry, just really impressed. Video works well minus the few choppy seconds at first, it then becomes super smooth. I haven't noticed flash taking a toll on my battery either.

For those that have Wordfeud. does it drain your battery real quick?

My battery has been draining faster than usual lately, though I'm not sure if it is due to that or the current rom I'm using

New update seems to be helping

Hah.. I was wondering why it was telling me it couldn't connect to the server just now, changelog for 1.0.2 does indeed mention the battery consumption

You can reply from the widget I got it a few days ago and I love it

hrm.. what am I doing wrong here, i'm getting the blue cube flash error thing

adobe flash 10.1 beta 3 installed, plugins in the browser are set to on demand (and tried setting it to always on just now, still nothing)

EDIT: i uninstalled and reinstalled flash, it works now

I have a motorola Milestone ( DROID) and wanted to know whats the best/easiest way t root my phone.Im mainly interested in rooting because of the various themes out there and some apps.

There is/was an app called EasyRoot that was recently removed from the market but I remember reading it is/will be made available on the devs website. Look into that.

When I first installed it nothing changed either until I restarted my phone. Guess that explains the beta tag. I suggest switching your settings to on-demand as well, makes things easier.

When using the default browser type about:debug into the url and hit enter. Go to the settings menu and scroll down to UAString. Choose that then change it to desktop. The same settings are also in the Dolpin browser except it comes builtin.

Aha, got it. There are a bunch of debug options under Settings, I had to check the one called "normal rendering". No more auto fit!

By the way, anyone looking for a good video player should give RockPlayer a try. For some sites, like Giant Bomb, i'd normally download their high-quality FLVs and transcode them using Handbrake for my iPod touch. RockPlayer plays those FLVs natively and with a perfectly smooth framerate, no more transcoding.

Whoa. Thanks a ton.

What is the best music player out there for Android? My Droid X defaults to just the stock Android player, boo. After all the work they did with Blur they could at least have put in a custom music player like everyone else.

Hmm... Is there an way to access a phone's folders wirelessly? Zune introduced this convenient idea to me, although I never owned a Zune.

I want to be able to move my content around without having to plug my phone's cable in all the time.

If you're on the same network then you can use WebSharing (lite version linked)
And if want to do it over 3G then use Awesome Drop.

Websharing Try
Websharing Buy

Wifi File Explorer Try
Wifi File Explorer Buy

Bluetooth File Transfer

Wifi File Explorer is good but Websharing is better. I haven't tried Bluetooth File Transfer yet.

In the same "Wireless is awesome and the future" mentality, Dropbox is very convenient for Android in endless ways from dropping files into an Android desktop folder to use later to sending a file back to your computer through the app (and 100 other uses from saving wallpapers to access later or throwing an .apk into your folder for a fast way from comp->phone). Awesome Drop also lets you drag files into a box on their site (no registration required) and have it transfer to a drop folder on your phone instantly; quicker and simpler than Dropbox + it works over 3G unlike the Wifi and Bluetooth file transfer apps.

There are a lot of options, I used Wifi File Explorer for a while and then realized that I could manage my SD card almost exclusively through Awesome Drop, Dropbox and OI File Manager.
