Ugh, drocap2 is starting to get really shitty in my eyes. JPG captures are too dark and compressed, and PNG captures are too bright and have washed out colours. How the fuck to you manage to get your screenies?[/QUOTE]
Download the Android SDK. Navigate to the "tools" folder and then click "ddms.bat". Select your device (Should be first on on that list) and double-click. Then click CTRL+S

Sorry if this has been answered already, but which widgets are those - the Launcher Pro Plus ones? If so, how did you change the font in them? For that matter how did you change the font of the lock-screen clock, and which font is it?

Yupp, those widgets are from Launcher Pro Plus. To change the font, I had to change the font of the whole phone. If you are rooted, boot into recovery and then flash this file. Do a nandroid backup just to be safe.

Awesome, sounds easy enough, I'll try it, thanks. The default font is probably one of the ugliest things I've ever seen :lol.

Thanks, much better now. Though I had to install JDK as well so it took a while

Anyone know how to make it so that my notification sound only plays when I receive a message, not when I get an email/other things?

I'm using a Galaxy S.

Each app should have its own notification settings that you can either turn on and off or select silent for the tone.

I wish I could turn off animated gifs in the stock HTC browser (OTA 2.2 leak)... I have a feeling they're making the cpu clock higher and it's impacting my battery pretty bad. I know I can turn off avatars, but I associate avatars with the posters and it helps when reading threads.

Well this is ironic. I've been complaining about how broken animated GIFs are with 2.2 on my Droid X and here you are complaining about how you want them off.

No, I don't want to trade phones with you. My phone has an HDMI output. :lol

Haha, ya I realized that. I was amazed when they were working flawlessly at first (even large, non-avatar gifs), but it's the only thing I can think of for why my battery use goes way up when browsing GAF.

Which is pretty worthless at the moment unfortunately. :/

I can't wait till they crack the sucker open and we can get straight video out in emulators etc.o

Okay, this is a little frustrating:
I had a good ROM setup on my MT3G Slide, I wanted to install a new font so i went into recovery and tried to install the font zip. I also updated the radio and did a Nandroid backup before all of this. When it booted up, it booted up like it was the first time I started the phone. But the new font was there. I went back into Nandroid and restored it and still booting up like its the first time. So I reinstalled the ROM that I was using, but now it looks like I have to download everything again. What did I do wrong? I was just trying to change the font :-/...

Also, is there a way for me to bring back any apps I had installed in the SD card already? Thanks...

EDIT I think I know what I did wrong... but is there any easy way to restore my apps?

When I replace my Droid in 13 months will I be able to download my purchased apps on there or will I need to purchase them again?
:lol

Of course you would be able to download them again. It would be silly otherwise.

I'm using a Galaxy S.
Settings - sound & display - notification ringtone to silent.
This will stop you getting a beep whenever something pops into the notification bar. To set individual ringtones for sms/email then go into those apps settings.

If you installed them from the market, I assume they would already be in the "Downloads" section in your market as long as you signed in with the same google account. Unless I'm totally wrong here :S

This thread has turned into a 'look at my homescreen' one!

Anyway, for those who put on custom ROMs, the latest FroydVillain 1.3.1 has fantastic battery management. I unplugged it at 07:30 this morning, and now at 16:05, the battery has 98% left with wifi turned on and auto updates on too. It doesn't use Sense though, but if you use Launcher Pro, then it's all good.

Is it safe to root a Desire with the 2.2 Froyo upgrade from HTC? (with Sense and all) I'm just asking to be sure. Also, what advantages does some custom ROM like CyanogenMod have over the default Sense stuff? Are there other notable custom ROMs that may be better than the Sense stuff? Sense crashes too often for my taste and I'd like to try out the "default" Android ("Google Experience"). And is it possible to go back to the default Sense UI after using a custom ROM? I've read this guide but it doesn't really cover much on this. Also, the xda-developers forum is kind of hard to understand when you're only just starting to get into this stuff.

Thanks in advance.

In launcher pro, the dock (the row at the bottom of the screen with the icons) has an option for you to receive numeric notification numbers for a few select things (mentioned above)

edit: oops, badly beaten

Yes, and this needs to stop. :P I used to find out about interesting Android apps here, now it's just brimming over with text-based minimalist LauncherPro setup after text-based minimalist LauncherPro setup.

Perhaps it's time for a separate 'look at my Android homescreen' thread...

Well okay.

Go for it iapetus.

Android wallpaper/screens/set-up thread

Then lock this one before it turns into a megathread and we'll (andrex) start the new
Android app recommendation and help thread.

Is there anyway to use a speech-to-text engine without being connected to the net? I've got Vlingo installed, and the Vlingo keyboard and SwiftKey both support speech-to-text, but you can't use that option if you are not connected to the net, which seems a bit limiting. Anyway around this at all?

Did anyone know that the official Sky+ app is now out? Been waiting for this for ages and then it's in the Market all of a sudden.

Can't seem to find it on App Brain though. You need to search for it on the Market. Works well.

Perhaps a "Mobile Device Desktops" thread? Keep it all consolidated.

It's kind of weird, a text-based UI and minimalist UI are naturally at odds with eachother. If I were to go through the lengths necessary to customize my UI in such a way, it would be minimalist, but use icons primarily. Simple, white, icons with no background.

I don't think it's really a good idea to try and put people from different platforms to show off their junk in the same place.

Andrex, goddammit, start working on an up-to-date OP for the new 'Android Software, and Software only thread'.

Sorry, but due to fragmentation I can only support OP 2.0 for those using GAF Gold™.
