Whoa, I had no idea there was a video player like that. Amazing! It says Google has suspended the last two versions. Are they worth getting?

for those that don't know...it works best to just navigate with your phone to the link.

it seems the file gets a .zip extension when on a PC...
Yeah I dint have any issues when downloading directly from my phone. I think it used astro to install possibly. As long as you have that box selected to install unknown applications it should be fine.

Oh my! College Football season has started, and thus sent me scrambling for a better scores app then the stock Google one (It takes soooooo looooooong to update anything). What's the best app that everyone is using right now? Ideally I'd like to track the top 25 + 1 team, but I could get by with something that would track 5 specific teams.

Anyone got any advice?

Does anyone else experience ridiculous screen tearing with the snap kernels on CM6? There are like 10 different kernels and all of the newer ones screen tear...it's kind of annoying. I had nandroid restore because i didnt remember which snap kernel the CM6 Final came with.

LauncherPro Plus update added a Twitter widget, which was quite timely in time as HTC Peep is dead

A lot of the comments said it was a memory hog so I haven't updated yet. How have you found it?

I suspect it is because now LauncherPro starts a service called UpdateService or something like that, supposedly to keep the Twitter widget updated, even if you're not using it because I don't and that service wasn't there until yesterday's update. I'm starting to feel LP is getting extremely bloated.

By the way... why DA FUCK does Extended Controls need a service to work? It's literally a block with 5 buttons that do stuff and is always there...

So my phone used to get amazing battery life (original Droid), but now I've installed some things, and it seems like in particular when I go to battery usage the Android OS is using far more power than it should. Barely touching the phone I get 8 or 9 hours before it hits 15% power, I'm hoping there's a way to sorta get a clean slate without losing all my apps and such. I've been told they autodownload, but last time I wiped my memory that was not the case.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

I just tried a multiplayer game of Raging Thunder II between my iPhone and my friends Galaxy S phone. Very cool to see cross platform internet play.

One thing that baffled me, however, is the response of the accelerometer. My buddy kept complaining that the game was impossible to play while I was having no issues. So we traded devices for a race and, lo and behold, he was a right. There is a huge amount of lag in the Android version (turn the device and the car will not react for at least a full second).

I suppose the question then is this: was this a design issue on the part of the game developer? Do the Galaxy S phones simply have poor accelerometer hardware? Do other Android phones have this issue with RTII?

Also, the iPhone version was not yet updated for the iPhone4 display (making it ugly), but I was surprised that the Android version was also low resolution. Considering that most Android devices feature reasonably high resolution devices, this left me baffled. Is this common with 3D Android games?

Screen was super nice on the Samsung phone, though. Not as sharp as the iPhone4 display, of course, but it had fantastic black levels (blacks which appear completely black). Very very cool!

Without a list of apps it's hard to give an advice, but why don't you try installing and running juicedefender? I'm getting decent results, I'll spend 60% of my battery in 24hrs (Motorola Milestone).

Download and run Spare Parts. Then see what the main battery culprits are in what is keeping it partially awake or what is using your CPU most. Also, Juice Defender like someone else mentioned.

Alright fuck this. I'm sick of Android 1.6. I want to update but I'm terribly scared.

Is there anyone who has a minute or two to go through this with me off here? I have MyTouch 3G.

Its really up to the Developer as to how they want to target Android devices and their capabilities. Google provides up to date marketshares for Android revisions and screen size/density, so developers can make an educated choice to try and reach the most people. I would guess that as 45+% of phones are Normal/MDPI as opposed to HDPI they figure catering to the lowest, largest common denominator is the way to go... a game targetted to MDPI devices can be made to work on both normal HVGA devices and higher resolution devices.

With regards to the differences in accelerometer experience -- its hard to say. It could have been coded that way when ported to Dalvik, it could be the way the kernel is handling the hardware, it could be the actual hardware itself... my guess would be that its a software thing though.

I just had an email saying Angry Birds Lite Beta is out but I can't find it on the market... anyone else finding thats the case?

just checked and downloading it now, <50 dls so far. its a big one 11.41 mb

is it just me, or is the game not working with multitasking? seems to start the game from scratch no matter how i switch in/out

i guess that is why the beta tag is on there :P

Yeah, multitasking doesn't work with the game yet :( Wonder how long this will be in beta? I want to give the dude my money.

Angry Birds Beta is on Marketplace. Get it now! Remember that it is a beta and to do your part in reporting bugs etc. That said it looks gorgeous on my Droid X and plays fantastic!

Can't wait for full final.

Sounds like something he might not be overly bothered with right now - onPause save game state, onResume load game state... it might be easier than getting it to work with all the various devices, which I would imagine being the priority. Already some comments coming in that it doesn't work right on some phones.

Not sure if this will work but this should be a Market Link for those browsing GAF from their phone too..

Can in anyone in the UK see it yet? Maybe the UK market hasnt updated yet for some reason

What's funny is that the market link pulls it up and I am able to view the description, etc., but when I try to actually download it, I get a message saying that it can't find it.

I'm running CM6 on a myTouch 3G. Anyway else experience this?

for sure, i'm very happy to say that at the moment the game is extremely smooth for me, smoother than it was on my 3G or my friends 3GS (haven't seen it on an iphone 4 yet, though i assume it is similar to this)

i have a rooted stock froyo droid and its prompting me for an update. if i update, will i lose my root?

the advice i got (though I have a HTC Desire) was to not update through OTA methods, once I had rooted, though if noone can help you out for specifically the droid x, you might consider asking at xda in the droid x forums

Most custom ROMs will block OTA updates. My prior Droid which my wife now owns prompted her for the updates, she accepted, and it rebooted into recovery where it gave a 'install aborted' message and upon booting she still has root.

Can't you just root the phone and put on cyanogen mod?
