One thing about android I hate...always seems like 2-3 updates are near and my phone feels so outdated even though I got it a few months ago :lol

One day Ill get Froyo :(

True, that does suck. I got the HTC Hero right after it got it's first update and when (IMO) it could said that this was the first proper android phone with proper effort put into it. It was brilliant. Then the Droid comes along with 2.0. A few months later 2.1. We got the update to 2.1 just as FroYo was rolling out for Nexuses. I remember I then said, fuck it, this is the last update we're getting and I've completely skipped 2.1 and went from 1.5 to 2.2. All in about a year. However I think after Honeycomb we'll have another update (for updated tablet stuff) and then it'll stabilize to a release every year or year and a half.

So I'm having some issues with my music (using winamp). Some tracks just aren't showing up for some reason, although it's a rare case.

For example, I have OK Computer by Radiohead on here, and for some reason Karma Police is missing even though I'm staring at the file right now on the internal storage using "Mass Storage" USB mode.

I tried recopying it over again but no dice. Can anyone help me out?

ID3 tag is messed up on the file?

How can I go in and check/fix it? I used to mess around with the tags like a year ago to get them to show up right in iTunes or some crap but I totally forgot about how I did that.

I just downloaded a game to my Evo twice by mistake but it didn't install. Where do non-installed downloads go? I need to delete one. Thanks.

Usually downloads just go in the Downloads folder. Should be on the top level of your SD card.

Did somebody say Torchlight ripoff?
Fake edit: Ah yes, googling reveals it's from the same company that brought you Halo ripoff and GTA III ripoff.
Actual edit: Are these guys going to start sending me spam?

I follow the text link I got and it still says the game is $4.99.

I clicked the link on my phone's browser and there was a button titled "Free HD Game" at the top of the page.

In windows explorer, right click file, properties, details tab. Case sensitivity matters.

OK, so the GF has a Motorola Cliq with MOTOBLUR, but her phone has been acting sluggish after the update to 2.1.

Is there anything she can do to make it run faster or has Motorola released this update on underpowered hardware?

I've been pushing for her to root the phone or to run a stock version of Android 2.1 on there but she doesn't want to lose MOTOBLUR.

Oh, what to do....

I have a question about my Evo.

I just looked at some apps I downloaded and a lot of them have some stuff under "permissions" that seems kind of strange.

"This app can access the following on your phone"

Your messages

Your location

your personal information

modify/delete sd card contents

read phone state and identity

prevent phone from sleeping

read system log files

edit and read mms or sms.

Most of the apps say this. ajailbreak, AK Notepad, antivirus, and other similar games and apps. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Depends on the app.

For example, I would imagine that a good AV program actually accesses all files, so it would need permissions for texts and stuff.

I'd read the reviews of any app that has one of those to be sure.

What must-haves are you guys rocking nowadays? I've got my phone looking real good with LauncherPro Plus, and I've downloaded Tapatalk and a few other apps, but nothing significant. What am I missing out on?

Can I post here with a problem? I'm sorry to bring the thread down with a help post, but I don't know where else to post it....

I'm having a LOT of problems with my Motorola Droid. Problems that almost render the phone unusable.

Ever since I got Froyo, (I got the phone November 2009, by the way) my phone has been so ridiculously slow it's painful to use, but still I've disregarded it because I like Android so much. It also has this awful problem that occurs when I leave an application and go back to the homescreen and it's blank for about 20-30 seconds, sometimes more. I get so frustrated with this, yet still I trudged on.

Now, I'm not being stupid about this. Here are things I've done to try and fix the issue:

1. I regularly clear the cache of apps.
2. Whenever possible, I move the app to the SD card
3. I've done a factory reset. This helped until I got all my apps back. This tells me I have too many apps, yet I still have 35 MB free of internal phone storage. Is that really not enough? This would be actual storage data right? I'm assuming phone RAM isn't related to this?)
4.Downloaded Launcher Pro to replace default Launcher (still didn't solve the problem).
5. Downloaded Watchdog to monitor any apps taking more than 30% of the CPU; I've only been alerted once, so clearly the CPU isn't being overused.

The whole thing sucks. I haven't downloaded any new apps in months because my phone simply can't handle doing anything. I basically just use SMS and the Browser on the phone now because everything else is so unbearable. I hate to believe that it's because I simply have too many apps, because I truly feel I shouldn't be confined to a limit of apps I can download provided I still have the internal memory (and I have 35MB left!).

I finally worked up the nerve to go to the Verizon store (I hate dealing with cell phone reps) and he was the rudest and most unhelpful person ever. All he said was to delete apps. I told him that I use most of the apps, and I am only willing to sacrifice maybe 3-5 apps (this is the truth and I use them when I can; I like my apps, thank you very much). Frustrated, I walked out without saying much back to him (I warned him I was extremely nervous and dreading going to the Verizon store for months and he was STILL rude to me), and walked across the street to the AT&T store to look a the iPhone and alternative Android phones (I was originally going to check out VZW phones but that didn't quite work out. Had a MUCH better experience in the AT&T store, for sure.

What do you guys reckon? Is the Moto Droid really so limited?

I've had the homescreen be blank, it was worse with the default launcher, launcher pro it does happen from time to time and is annoying, but it's happening less often with the below launcher pro settings I use on motorola droid:
general -> nothing checked
homescreen -> your choice I do 5 screens 3 default nothing checked
dock-> 1 dock, nothing check
behavior -> home key to default checked and home key action = do nothing
appearance -> only screen indicator and home button on app drawer checked
advanced
main -> 5 icon rows in homescreen and elastic scrolling checked
memory -> very low, homescreen caches checked, compressed cache type, build caches as needed and prevent force-closes checked.

Download z4root from the Marketplace.

that says it doesn't work for the original motorola droid.

Subsonic and RadioTime kick ass.

I'm pretty new to the Android scene, but here's what I would check:

-How fast is your SD card? If it's kinda slow, you might be doing more harm than good by moving most of your apps there.

-35MB of free storage might be a problem... I'm guessing the OS pages data to the storage when your RAM is full, and if you run out of space there it probably just has to shut the apps down and restart them next time you run them. Not sure on this though.

-Not sure if this still applies to Froyo, but I've read that in order to run apps from SD, they have to be paged into internal memory first, so that 35MB might be filling up fast when you load up a larger app.

The first thing I'd check would be the speed of your SD card... That could be a huge bottleneck if that's where most of your apps are.

I was a launch Droid user until I upgraded to the X in July.

The SD card isn't the problem, as a matter of fact the Droid has it included. It's purely for storage and caching of particular apps (settings etc) and it shouldn't do anything to slow down his OS. As you said that 35MB is most likely what is causing a ruckus.

It sounds like an internal RAM issue and he simply has too much space filled with apps. It has 512 of RAM which is divided in half to 256 for the OS and 256 of space to store said apps. There is some kind of encroachment going on of that space where it is fighting for what is available versus what it needs to process the data.

I never had this issue myself but I guess I just wasn't the app whore this guy is.

Luckily we are heading into the direction where they are blowing out the onboard storage and the RAM is being left purely for memory and the OS. The 8GB onboard on the X is a godsend in that respect.

If I prefer to use iTunes while on my Mac, but want the MP3 tags to work properly in DoubleTwist or Android's stock player, what program should I use to modify the tags? Lots of stuff looks fine from within iTunes, but does show up properly once on my phone.

I like apps and I don't care who knows!
what can i say

Okay, so today I went to a different Verizon store and found out that I'm eligible for an upgrade since I'm the primary line (how do you guys get new phones before your upgrade is available without paying out the arse?).

I may just get a new phone after Christmas. I will still have to pay around $150 but it might be worth it :p

Thanks for all suggestions guys. I will try them out :)

I just wonder if the included SD card wasn't particularly fast. My Droid 2 came with a Class 4 card, so it wouldn't surprise me if the original Droid's was slower than that. Prior to Froyo, you couldn't run apps off SD anyway (at least not officially) so there wouldn't have been as much need for a fast card at that time.

I don't think you can, unless you straight-up buy the phone without a plan from eBay or something, and then activate it on your account. The ones you buy on your upgrade are subsidized quite a bit because they expect you keep paying them for 2 years (or pay out the arse for an early termination fee).

Are you willing to root? I rooted and changed a few things that seem to have helped the exact same problem:

1. After root install SetCPU (to overclock your phone, i just kept the same kernel and OC'd to 800 mhz on demand, NOTE: you can underclock while your phone's screen is off, GREATLY increasing battery life).

2. Keep watchdog, I have it set to 70%.

3. Install Autokiller. This reduces the number of programs that can be actively kept in memory, and reduces the threshold at which an app in the background will close. I halved the memory limits for hidden, content provider and empty apps (you'll see when you get there).

4. Install Autostarts. It might take a few minutes but go through each scenario in the app and remove apps that don't belong. For instance, certain apps like to set themselves to start at boot. You can change that.

5. Install titanium backup. This will allow you to move apps to SD that normally don't allow it. Do this for all apps you've downloaded that don't have widgets.
6. Often the slow refresh in the launcher can be cause by a widget. Reduce the total number of widgets and mess around to see if any particular widget is taking forever to load.
7. In Launcher Pro settings, under advanced/memory usage, enable caches but change them from normal to light. I have 'clear caches' unchecked.

8. Hack launcher pro to stay in memory whenever possible. Instructions can be found here. This is the process I believe had the greatest effect.

Almost every one of these unfortunately requires root, but it doesn't require fancy roms or kernels or anything. If you're comfortable with rooting I'd say go for it, I experienced the exact same problem you did and this has seemed to all but eliminate it. If there is a screen redraw, it takes about 4-5 seconds.

I just started to get this issue w/my software Android.process.acore and I've been trying to search for a fix but still nothing. Anyone else?

I have a Droid and had the same problem. I followed those instructions and LauncherPro now stays in the phone's memory. You have to root though.

I have similar problems on a regular basis but I have an Eris. I thought I solved my problems for good when I switched to one custom Froyo rom but the problems just seem to come back over time. I'm not sure if it's because of a slow SD card, too many apps, too many widgets or what. I don't have the time or patience to troubleshoot it. I just want a better phone. The Eris sucks. :(
