i'm sure this has been talked about, but is there an app that makes your contact photos less blurry/low resolution?

I don't know about contacts specific but PicSay Pro is a damned good Android photoshop like app.

I'm happy they updated the facebook app. The only complaint I really had was the lack of chat, which is fixed. Push notifications are nice too.

I have a few security questions.

1. I went to Install Ninja jump and it said it will read my personal information. Do people feel comfortable sharing this with some random app dev?

2. How secure is the chase app? I keep hearing that there are know flaws with android OS. Would that play into the security of individual apps?

If you're syncing with your Google Contacts (and who isn't really?) you're sort of out of luck (except for 3rd party solutions for syncing different pics), because it's the Google Contacts back end that's resizing contacts to the horribly low resolution so you can't do much about it.

ah ok, yea I am syncing with google contacts, didn't know that thanks

Is the Facebook update only available for a certain version of Android or something?

The market isn't offering me the update atm... (2.1, UK)

It's C2DM and it's a new API available from Froyo and up:

http://code.google.com/android/c2dm/

Edit:

Let me clarify: since new FB version now offers PUSH (via C2DM) it requires 2.2+, Market and a Google account on your device.

Hey guys,

might be a silly question, but are your SNES emulators running games full speed and with perfect audio? Cause I'd expect them to, since we also have PSX and now DC emulators, but damn it if Snesoid doesn't run with full fps on my phone and Super GNES runs (I think) with perfect fps most of the time, but the music seems weird most of the time.

And I kinda expected it to run flawlessly without any problems. :(

Running a stock rom on a rooted HTC Desire Z.

New Google maps update is out!!

Yeah I was literally going through the grind of updating all my apps and I even downloaded the new market and it pops up. It rocks. Hopefully caching means subway usability!

Also, there was an update for the voice recognition software, said something about turning on personalization to increase accuracy, anyone know how to do that?

I can tilt but I can't seem to rotate the map ugh.

You need to use it after you download the Voice update first and a screen comes up asking if you want personalized recognition.

Yeah, this Google Maps is pretty cool.

Question though. I have automatic updates on, but it only automatically updates when I open the Market. It kind of defeats the point of automatic updates.

I agree. I believe the AppStore works the same way. You have to open the app, then it scans your installed apps for any updates. Would be nice to have real push notifications of available updates.

You sometimes have to read between the lines. Most likely this refers to uploading your name with a high score to a server and it is just the default wording by Google. Most of the time the apps will specifically ask if you wish to do so. Ninja Jump is by the dev behind Paper Toss BTW, they've been around for a while.

The alerts about what the apps access before you download and install I have found to be pretty broad across the board, it is just a matter of interpreting them.

You rotate using multitouch, you can't do it?

Also, I can't do the personalization yet, only for US so far :(. Canadian English is the same thing!

You can rotate by using two fingers twisting in a circle.

Yea I can't rotate it, lame. I been doing the motion that they show on this video from the start. Tilting works but rotating doesn't. I thought the Droid Incredible was supported.

Does this new map caching go to the internal memory or SD card? Please say SD card!

It caches everything...in your heart!

no idea, but the whole point of it is that the data is now super small since it's vectored so it shouldn't make a difference, really.

Weird. I don't have to open the Market app for my apps to automatically update.

edit: I guess it probably polls for updates because it will do it on it's own but it's not always right away.

Is the incredible made by HTC?
They crippled the Nexus One with a shitty touch screen. Hope that didn't happen to this phone.

I can't be the only one to be irked by the fact that two finger gesture needed for the map view switch is backwards. :lol It should be swipe up to go into 3d and down to go back into 2D, not the other way around.

Otherwise it looks and runs pretty good on my G2, rotation and all.

The AppStore app gets badges ever so often indicating the number of updates available. It's by push but I've never been able to determine the checking schedule (or how to turn it off).

My phone always auto-updates apps. But the auto-updates happen on a schedule (every 2 days it seems) not the instant that the apps are updated.

Uhh.. it works... it only works on YOUR location. Hit the "My Location" in the upper right, then hit the compass, then hit the compass again (the icon changes). I'm using an Incredible also. I'm using it right now.

So rotation only works when your location is under a 3D map zone? I'm not in a 3D map zone right now but I at least thought I could rotate when I was checking out the downtown map.

Look at the video... the rotation happens when the map is snapped to the user's location and you hit the compass to turn it on. Not when you just manually navigate to some other place on the map. Has nothing to do with the 3D.

New maps is so awesome.

It is supported. It's working fine on my Incredible. The multitouch rotating and tilting have been like that in google earth for a while, glad to see them carried over to Maps finally.

I don't think it's by push at all. They only time I've ever seen it update on my wife's iPhone is when you actually open the App Store.

installed the update. opened it up. Froze. battery pull. Android :lol

got it working again. I needed to watch the engadget video to figure out the 3D view. Overall, it looks spiffy

*edit Zozz beat me. :-P

My favorite games (warning they are all very addictive) : Robo Defense, Air Control, Angry Birds, Baseball Superstars and... my new favorite: Game Dev Story.

I went to sleep at 2 a.m. last night because I couldn't stop playing Game Dev Story. Is there anything like this on the computer? I think I have a new favorite game genre.

The multi-touch 2-finger rotate and tilting? It definitely does.

Game Dev Story is actually a port of a old pc game...that was only for the japanese market.

But it does?

I know every so often my notification bar will show a little icon of an android robot indicating new update for my apps

So the facebook mobile site updated, and its awful in the sense that it looks okay but its completely not functional whatsoever. Would always use it over the app any day, but now I'm not sure :|
