Holy cow new Maps is sick. Rotating and changing into 3D perspective is so nice. Can't believe we didn't have that before.

Android's Maps and Navigation are reason enough to go with Anroid over iOS.

You sometimes have to read between the lines. Most likely this refers to uploading your name with a high score to a server and it is just the default wording by Google. Most of the time the apps will specifically ask if you wish to do so. Ninja Jump is by the dev behind Paper Toss BTW, they've been around for a while.

The alerts about what the apps access before you download and install I have found to be pretty broad across the board, it is just a matter of interpreting them.

It would be nice if it was a little more specific. I'd hate to have my email/Name given out just to play a simple little game.

I'm not getting 3D buildings in LA. How do I activate that?
dont you tick on the compass on the top right.
and then you zoom in. only works around downtown atm.
it works for me on my DX, buts its buggy and slow. the app crashed twiced and my phone restarted. :/

I have a question about buying apps from the marketplace

I'm looking to buy Beautiful widgets but when I go to purchase it, it shows the amount being in Euros and that it will approximately cost 1.97 USD.

Any there any hidden fees to this if the app currency is overseas?

Just WOW at the maps improvement, I didn't know Dublin had 3D buildings, it looks awesome. Two-finger rotation doesn't appear to work my Desire though.

The Desire has the same fucked up touch screen as the N1. Its part of the reason I upgraded to a G2.

Only if there are any imposed by your bank or credit card company. I think I get charged some small fee for "currency conversion" or something (it's in the cents) by my bank when I purchase something in foreign currency.

My shitty bank does this, I get charged about 70p extra on top of the app cost if it's in anything other than £.

To anyone who does not follow the Android gaming thread.

NFS Shift is on the market. $4.99

Runs very smooth on my Desire Z and looks great.

That took awhile. The demo came with my Droid X back in July. It is indeed very pretty. And I just realized, while playing it for the first time in awhile, it has a decent remix of Paranoid by Kanye West.

Dqamn, Comics is awesome. There's enough random Batman, Joker and other free stuff to be entertained for a little whille. A nice sample comic is Mirror's Edge #1, its basically the intro to the game but not written as well. In any case it looks really good and the transitions are cool.

Going to investigate some more. I might be throwing a lot of money into this app. Its very polished, very Android and very easy to read.

I'm a bit confused. I updated my Maps app to 5.0 on my HTC Aria (running on 2.1), but I see none of the aforementioned new features. Swiping with two fingers does not tilt the map, so I can't test out the 3D buildings capability. And most worryingly, it seems that my Maps app is still rendering the maps as pasted-together images. It does not appear to be using vectors at all to render the map.

Is this an issue with the HTC Aria? Can anyone help me?

Nobody else has had these problems? NONE of the new features of Google Maps 5.0 are working on my HTC Aria. This is ridiculous.

Get Google Maps for mobile 5.0 by searching for Google Maps in Android Market (or tap on this link if you’re on your phone). Android 1.6+ devices can get Maps 5.0, but 3D and offline features require Android 2.0+, and some features may not be supported for all devices or countries.

It looks like your device might not support the features? Maybe it's a hardware limitation issue?

Amazing, just used it to start the Walking Dead :D

Wish it would work with daily comics, such as Calvin and Hobbes though

That's what I am trying to find out. I can't find any documentation on the Aria's compatibility with the new features anywhere, but it wouldn't make sense for the freaking vector rendering not to work. Isn't that supposed to be the MAIN change from the update that should work across all phones?

And I'm running 2.1, so my OS version makes the grade.

The Aria doesn't support the 3D rendering, because it doesn't have Android 2.2: http://www.google.com/mobile/maps/3d/ and http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=1079043

it only works on a handful of devices atm

I have a question; does the apps and games work for the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro? It runs Android 1.6 but I'm thinking of it's smaller screen primarily.

This is probably a very stupid question, but will I lose my photos/videos/downloads when I flash and install a new ROM on my Vibrant?

You shouldn't lose your data on the SD card. You'll lose things (like program data) on your phone's internal memory, though.

That's weird, my phone stores my photos on the SD card.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you lose all your internal memory when you switch ROMs (but not upgrade).

The Vibrant has 16gb internally so I usually save photos/videos to the internal DCIM folder. I just changed over to a 4gb SDHC microSD a little while earlier, so I'll just move the DCIM & downloads folder over to my SD card temporarily

So I'm using my wife's captivate for a few days, how do I get the new gmail and youtube on this? I don't see them in the market.

I got myself a HTC Desire a while ago and I'm loving it to bits.

I can heartily recommend the game Rocket Bunnies. You hop from planetoid to planetoid in 2.5D to collect bunnies, while avoiding obstacles. You get graded on your completion speed which earns you stars to unlock new worlds (timing increases your hopping speed).
