Anime licenses that would work well with Western devs

I think Rocksteady could do a good job with a bunch of franchises, simply because they do a good job with creating their own version of the lore but not in a way that is different than the source material.

Would love to see a western dev tackle the Gundam franchise just for the production value and possibility of controls that make sense.

Anime stuff is niche in the west and frequently looked down upon. Nothing good will come of this (at least not as good as some of you guys expect it to)

Sure it's niche. But if someone like SSM makes a kick ass game based off Berserk or something that would be a good translation to a game then it would stand on its own merits as a game instead of just being based on an anime. Not to mention that the rights probablt would not be super expensive.

I can't think of one that doesn't already have a very Western theme in the first place or a western dev wouldn't change in so many ways the fans would outright reject it.

Ninja Theory

Ghost in the Shell or Psycho Pass imo

A prequel Psycho Pass Telltale game where you play as Masaoka before the Sybil system was fully enforced and then as it's beginning to be implemented. You watch Japanese society transform before your very eyes and struggle to cope with it.

Half of the game is spent solving crimes the old fashioned way: hunting down criminals using sheer detective skills a la the good parts of Wolf Among us. In the second half of the game, Masaoka is forced to implement the new Sybil system into his detective process. You get to chose how much he trusts the system as he tries to solve new crimes in a new world. Ultimately, he winds up succumbing to his inability to cope with the system and the game ends with him becoming an enforcer.

Masaoka was my favorite character in Psycho pass because he was clearly a trope heavy old time character but the way he was written made him subtle and nuance. He easily could have been just a pure Blade Runner type cynical paranoid, but instead he ended up being a watchful protector who never pretended to have all the answers. A game with him as the protagonist would be really interesting in the right hands, although you don't want him to end up exactly like Bigby, because they're similar characters

Wait, did I miss any post mentioning anything from Type Moon?
Like Fate series(RPG, Fighting), Kara no Kyoukai(Action) or Tsukihime.

I'm going to have to go with none too. There is almost no way they could capture the je ne sais quoi of Japanese media.

Particularly ghost in the shell. Westerners do cyber punk wonderfully, but that series is actually about Shintoism. You'd have to be socialized in that environment to capture it fully.

Fist of the North Star by Platinum. Make it like God Hand.

Edit: I'm stupid, Platinum is a Japanese developer.

So a Neatherealm fighting game or a Rocksteady beat em up will do.

Unless we're talking about BONES, of course. By the end of most of their original series, you get a palpable sense that not even the show's creators know what they were going for in the first place. Once that happens, there's no other way to go but up!

Strike Suit Zero devs: ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give EUREKA SEVEN

I would also play a Darker Than Black reskin of Assassin's Creed or Watch Dogs and not feel the least bit guilty about it.

I think Ed Boon should be making a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure game after MKX.
Gore, man. It's such a large part. :(

Hellsing would make a fantastic action/shooter game. Something like Dirge of Cerberus meets Bayonetta meets Dark Souls.

Ghost in the Shell.

Make it like the PS1 game using the spider tank from Watch Dogs.

I think people mentioning cowboy bebop are forgetting how silly the show could be or the fact that Edward is a big part of show.

Writing comedy isn't that hard. Ed doesn't have to be playable, she just has to be interesting/funny. Ein has as many memorable moments as Ed does.

Ein being super intelligent was a plot point I feel they never went in depth enough with.
