Anna Kendrick Wants to Play Squirrel Girl

Squirrel Girl needs her current comic to make her legit. Funny, smart, heart warming. Her current book is everything everything the character needs.

It's true. Even In Al Ewing's New Avengers he has nothing to do for her. She's a non entity. It's the creative team of her solo book that makes her work.

That's cuz her solo book doesn't have to worry about continuity. Her solo books exists in her own world how the creator's envisioned it. Everything outside her book is where she has to play by Marvel aka Bendis' rules of the universe.

MCU is really becoming something else huh?

From Jessica Jones to Squirrel Girl ... that's quite the jump

I'd love to see Squirrel Girl in gritty Jessica Jones season 3 applying as the nanny. Actually, I want to see that even more when I think of Luke Cage's reaction to her tail.

Man I just have the most perfect image of her with some squirrel friends confronting cgi evil purple Josh Brolin and i can't get it out of my head i need it to happen in my life

After Credits scene: Thanos slowly crawls out of the pile of rubble after his "death", dusts himself off and gives a slight grin before he catches sight of a solitary squirrel. Then another, and another. He ignores them and turns to leave when suddenly a shrill voice calls out, "Hey Mister Thanos! Where do you think you're going?"

She's a really awesome cartoonist. Her inks look fantastic. Not super wild about the books colors.

Luke Cage & Iron Fist
Black Widow
Squirrel Girl
Black Panther

?

My top list looks something like that. Throw Gwenpool and Howard The Duck in there as well.
Illuminati was too good for this world, or otherwise it'd be on everyone's lists. RIP old friend. RIP.

That's a rapist

Like, the argument I'd make is that she's the equivalent of Deadpool on Remender's Uncanny X-Force. The "heart" of the team, so to speak. The one that keeps everyone grounded. Problem is when you have characters like Clint on the team. No one on the team is fucked up enough that Doreen works on that level. Hell, Victor and Ava are more grounded than she is. Songbird is more grounded. I have no problem with her, but I also have no interest in her. The only book I'm reading that has her in it is New Avengers and I can say for sure she isn't one of the main reasons I enjoy that book (it's a fucking dope ass book). That said, I'll still pick up U.S.Avengers.

K. This means it can't be a good movie... why?

It doesn't. This assertion isn't in any of my posts.

It wouldn't be in the MCU. Too tonally inconsistent.

The books and their creators themselves acknowledge this. The character is at her best when she's segmented away from the rest of the fiction and given the room to beat Doom at checkers or whatever without contradicting a million other adjacent arcs and stories.

The movie can be as good as the comic, it just needs to be its own thing to do that. Try to make an MCU-compatible SG film, chances are the people most invested in it won't be happy.

Note that I said "chances are" soevifucallt. You could probably make it work by some miracle, but why go against the source material at such a fundamental level? Make a standalone movie - make it animated in my opinion. Really capture the art and feel of the comic - and be done with it.

^^^This is my point by the way, Subpar Spatula.

shes a joke character thats somehow unknowingly defeated two of marvels powerhouses. then put her on teams where shes supposed to be a grounded character. that would be like bringing in the girl from the worst xmen and having her play straight up despite knowing she has god like power. theres a lot of things within the spectrum of " its comics, we dont have to explain shit" but most of the time they at least try to explain the crazy shit that happens. with often bs rationale, but still, reasons. im not off of her having her own book, but she doesnt mesh well with the rest of the 616.

Squirrel Girls very first appearance has her chumping Iron Man and Doctor Doom "on camera" if your only actual complaint is you didn't get to see it happen or how she did it.

In regards to Squirrel Girl being isolated from the bigger events in the MCU, this is why I believe that it is incredibly important to have her be a Netflix show rather than a film. A Netflix show gives writers time and a lot of space to have these really awesome slice of life stories mixed in with fun arcs that could include other MCU characters which has no real bearing on the universe at large. If you want her to be involved in the cinematic universe, have her be a running gag where nobody wants to call her for help (because who wants to say that Squirrel Girl saved the day?).

I think it would be best to have another set of shows that primarily only deal with one another like Squirrel Girl & Howard The Duck.

Variety is the spice of life, and to get more people involved in the MCU is a good thing. Let there be a show or a movie for everyone.

I would LOVE this idea, but the world is not ready for a new howard the duck movie/show so soon =P

most characters with massive powers have massive hangups as to why they cant do things. as bs as it is, theres rationales behind them. theres no such thing with her. they happened, but thats the end of it. no rhyme or reason, it just is. but why? its like the original sin arc with thor. a few words, and hes unworthy, but noone knows why, and it pisses people off. any reason explaining other than "it happened" and "she bested them" thats a non answer, and with her being a joke character something that i wouldnt question. but putting in the middle of things makes her suspect to things that happen around her. and noone seems to be asking why or how. its spock shit all over again(not that bad, but up there)

So you want rationale even though most rationales are completely stupid? Tell me again how Thanos lost the IG?

Almost all justifications in comic books are dumb.

I honestly don't know if the MCU could do Squirrel Girl in a way that would satisfy everyone. Squirrel Girl is one of my favorite Marvel characters, but she works because she's an outlier; she's not usually a front-lines, main story kind of character; outside of being Luke Cage's/Jessica Jones' nanny, her interactions with others has been minimal, and a movie would need to capitalize on that. Plus, a lot of the people that like Squirrel Girl are mostly amused by her accomplishments, and thus see her as "lol she beat Thanos," making actual, "wins fights through resourcefulness and actually talking to the villain" Squirrel Girl potentially disappointing for them.

I don't expect her to be in the MCU, but I'd love to see her, especially after the Kristen Schaal suggestion; she's honestly the perfect actress for the part.

Damn Squirrel Girl sales worse than Carol...I said goddamn.

That's kinda lame, honestly. I finally have the budget for comics again; at least that'll be one more Squirrel Girl sold per month, though, right?

Oh come the fuck on.

Fine, you hate Captain Marvel. But how can you possibly hate Unbeatable Squirrel Girl?

Squirrel Girl is an extremely poorly constructed book. The art is frequently confusing due to its sheer ineptitude, the characters have no real depth to them beyond strict comedic props, and the humor never has any sort of structure with setups or payoffs, it just boils down to a series of random quips used to propel forward a zero stakes plot.

Squirrel Girl is at least a tiny bit better than total dogshit like Patsy Walker: Hellcat and Batgirl, but it's yet another one of these books that gets propped up as something a lot bigger than it is due to its audience and not really due to the talent of the creative team.

People still mad that she's canonically defeated both Dr Doom and Thanos. And also Darkseid. Dr. Manhattan. Popeye. Felix the Cat. Judge Dredd. Hellboy. Each of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, individually. Scrooge McDuck. Lying Cat. Scott Pilgrim. Fone Bone and Smiley Bone (but not Phoney Bone). The chick from Ghost World. V. Miracleman. Jughead. Tintin and Captain Haddock. Rick Grimes. Asterix under the influence of magic potion prepared by the druid Getafix. Dream. Spider Jerusalem. Yorick. Tank Girl. And of course, infamously, both Lone Wolf and Cub.
Some people think she's OP, but I'm ok with it.

Not cannon sorry

Squirrel Girl is awesome. Bring her on.

I would absolutely lose it if she popped up in an Avengers film and just confused the hell out of everyone.

And her book is awesome. Read it. Mole Man sinking landmarks to blackmail her into a date is an example of one of her less bizarre adventures.

It's amazing after friggin' Deadpool, which was a real loose adaptation of his source, that people are wondering whether SG can work in the MCU.

The very fact it doesn't work is what they should focus on. It's what makes it unique.

Mole Man is AMAZING. Between this and Waid's Mole Man Daredevil story...dude still has legs when he's written well.

So many people with absolutely no sense of humor in this thread. Not very surprising considering the average comic book fan profile, but still... Squirrel girl is one the the few readable comic books marvel is publishing these days, and manages to be surprising with every other issue.

Compared to the Inhuman crappy storylines or the uninteresting civil war event, its a welcome breath of silliness.

Nah they can do better

meme without substance gets old fast. See why Lobo, and Ripclaw don't have books anymore

Sure, Squirrel Girl was a meme before she got her book, but North and Henderson have really of elevated her above that though. Her book is legit funny, has a great cast, and Doreen solves her problems in interesting ways. I don't really get all the hate it seems to get, it has a lot of heart.

Yeah. A meme without substance won't last... But her book HAS substance.

I think few people have read it, or they just couldn't get over the art style. Their loss. The book is one of Marvel's best.

Lobo isn't around anymore because people started trying to take him seriously.

Lil Lobo in Young Justice totally worked, because Peter David got it

Anna Kendrick and Squirrel Girl both need to stay on the sidelines.

That said, if Kirsten Schaal were involved I would probably have to see it on G.P.
