I don't buy consoles for launch titles. It's an invest in the future of the platform and a safeguard against any crazy shortages that may happen.
I really want to buy a PS4 at launch but none of the launch titles hold any interest for me right now. The only title out of the bunch I saw that held any interest for me was Second Son (which is supposed to come out in 2014).
I have a pre-order in for a PS4 @ Amazon, but if nothing changes I'll probably cancel it as we approach launch date.
Sony has never had a good day one launch lineup, and PS4 will not change that lol
Compared to what?
360: Didn't buy one launch game, the onyl good one was CoD2, which I had on the PC. So I rented a few of the games, none worth owning.
PS3: Resistance was great, nothing else worth mentioning.
PS4: Killzone and Driveclub day one. I'll watch reviews for Knack and a few others.
So PS4 seems to be better than most launches, Vita had a good lineup though.
You realize in that future they re-stock supplies right?
Of course, but there's a certain level of enjoyment of getting a console at launch. It's not like there's going to be much of a price cut within the first year anyways. Besides, buying into a console later on can exacerbate the issue of getting through a back log for some people. Fortunately I'm not one of those people but worth pointing out
As for the question in the OP - I'm not really excited for anything on either console at launch. If it weren't for there being a new generation I probably wouldn't buy Battlefield. Watch Dogs looks great but that's probably something I'll check out after a price drop.
In all honesty I expect to be playing my other consoles / PC than the PS4 this fall. Nothing different than how I treated pretty much any other generation except the Gamecube (N64 was dead to me nearly instantly afterwards). The only real difference is this is the first time I'm not going to be able to take advantage of backwards compatibility so that's kinda disappointing.
Do we know what all the PS4 launch titles are yet? Because I'm not sure I'm capable of being disappointed without knowing.
Honestly, I care more about PSN for PS4 titles. Launch titles are usually crap, but you can keep the enthusiasm up with great PSN/XBLA titles. Pixel Junk Monsters is a great example. It captivated me more than any launch title.
It would be naive to think either launch line up is complete, especially Sony's.
Sony has never had a good day one launch lineup, and PS4 will not change that lol
Killzone, Battlefield, Watch Dogs and the PS+ edition of Drive Club plus any PSN titles that will be released. I'm set.
It's about what I expect from the average launch lineup.
PS2:
Tekken Tag Tournament
Armored Core 2
SSX
Timesplitters
Madden
Midnight Club
Ridge Racer V
DOA2:H
Doesn't seem that bad.
which ever 1st party game does poorly will most likely to be first one to prop up on PS+ for cheaper or free. So I won't be itching at buying many games expecting some specials on PS+
Can't wait for Gamescom, hopefully we'll get much more information on other games coming out.
