UNCONFIRMED: A reader just bought the 8GB iPhone for $399 and 4GB iPhone for $299 in an Apple store just now. Possible price drop?

I'd drop 399 on an iPhone, if they actually WERE 399. My cell is old and shitty. I still wish that they had more storage on them. 8 gigs is pathetic.

WiFi music store? Good move, what the Zune's Wi-Fi should have done. It'd be hilarious if MS announced a similar thing for the Zune tomorrow.

I think that's clever, low capacity+high price = still a lot of people buying the Classic.

That's my story... the 160 gig classic is gonna do it for me I think. A worthy upgrade to my current 40 gig brick. Still, it's a shame they had to gimp the touch like that...

Looks like 160GB iPod Classic with new UI and FORTY hours of audio life for $349 was the best thing announced, imo.

I'm down for a 160 gigger. 16 gigs, well, I'd need at least twice that for a PMP, but a good start. Pricey, but then again they can't risk devaluing the iPhone that much.

Think i'll stick to my N95 as a media player for now. (gets my podcasts over wifi)

Failed

Ipod touch to expensive and not enough space
Ipod Nano not too big
The lamest ever thing with the double dipping of ringtunes.

atleast the classics 160gb bump wins

I already have an iphone, so the ipod touch wasnt going to get bought unless if could hold all of my music like the 30 GB 5th genner I have.,

Oh well no new ipod for me for now....

Can you not get podcasts in this new app?

Why do they use flash memory for the new versions? What advantage does it give over normal hard drives?

Way better battery life and thinner design.

Wifi iTunes Store access is something that should have been in the iPhone in the first place. Hopefully that announcement is coming today...

Edit: too slow.

Should have had it from day 1. Now they'll just look "me too".

ive been using a g1 shuffle for the past 2 years, think ill finally move up and grab one of the current nano's on the cheap if i can, or maybe the touch screen, i have under 4 gigs of music on my computer, and would only be using it to commute to work on the train every morning (30 minutes each way)

I find a really useful app on my N95 is that it can get all my podcasts via download when they come out over wifi.

It would be crazy for wifi itunes not to do this, its so useful.

So 30 hours of battery life for music on the 160GB ipod classic vs 22 hours on the ipod touch is better? And the additional features provided from the ipod touch don't really count in an argument like this because when I am listening to music, my ipod is normally on the desk beside me, not using the interface.

And the ipod classic is already thin enough. Does the extra space gained from flash memory really justify losing 144 GB of space?

<JHiLounge> Wi-Fi store available in every one of the 22 countries iTunes is in
* JDM has quit IRC (Signed off)
<JHiLounge> It will also be added to the iPhone.
<JHiLounge> It's the first icon on the fourth row. Later this month for software update.
<JHiLounge> Note that it is Wi-Fi Music Store.
<JHiLounge> One more incredible part of this he says:
<JHiLounge> We've got a great partnership with Starbucks announcing today
<JHiLounge> Starbucks is an incredible phenomenon in our culture.
<JHiLounge> We want to combine great iPods, love of music, with their coffee and love of
<JHiLounge> In the new iTunes Wi-Fi Store. When you're near a participating Starbucksm a button appears with Starbucks logo
<JHiLounge> you can see Starbucks songs from the store
<JHiLounge> (no, I'm not kidding)

Apple and Starbucks... as if they weren't already bound at the hip. Smart move I suppose.

In retrospect, the 160 gig classic is actually a great deal and probably better suited for me then a 30-60 gig touch. The battery life is nuts and my focus is on music and video anyway.

Everyone should be happy. Want the touch interface with a decent amount of memory? Get the Touch. Want a shit ton of memory? Get the classic.

If the Touch had a hard drive, the battery life would be even lower.

What other good HDD-based MP3 players are out there? The Touch with 40-60GB would've been perfect.

Also, how long till Sony/Samsung make a 32GB MS-Duo?

8GB Ipod Touch for $300 is pretty fine. I paid almost as much for my 8GB Nano (in CDN dollars, though)

This looks to have a lot good functionality. If the sound quality is not typical Ipod garbage, I might bite.

I'm not happy. I want both. The Classic is outdated.

Your not taking into account that the Touch has wifi and a big touch screen. If it also had a a hard drive the battery life would have been crappy. Don't get me wrong though, I would have bought it in a heartbeat if it HDD.
