And if Apple had released that design you'd have complained that it looked like shit.

ugh, so close to the perfect product at the perfect price.

...well, I guess I have to figure out the most important 16GBs of music I own to put on that thing :(

DAMNIT

should've started at 16gb and went to 30. for the same prices.

ARRRGH

Ugh, it was too awesome to get decent storage. No sale from me :(

(11:49:00 AM) JHiLounge: A new application iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store.
(11:49:29 AM) JHiLounge: It's on the bottom of the screen, which he now calls the Dock
(11:49:36 AM) JHiLounge: Featured, top ten, search, and downloads
(11:49:45 AM) JHiLounge: you can pick top tens from all of iTunes, any genre you love,

woah, all rumours.

No e-mail on it either, which I use a ton on my iPhone. The two products compliment each other well, and the Touch doesn't eliminate the usefulness of the iPhone at all. My third most used App on iPhone is Google Maps too, behind Mail and Safari. Don't see that on the Touch either.
can't you still get your mail online? I know it's not as instant, but...

:| I'll wait for the second generation of iPod Touch. It's like they're starting over..they'll have years and years of capacity improvements to exploit.

wow.. that is pretty damn pricey.... if it had more PDA functionality or was open the price would be a little easier to swallow.. but an ipod with a wifi web browser at $400 for only 16GB.. ouch.

ipod classic 160GB is definitely where it's at.

I'm almost glad it's only 16gb/$399... i'm torn between this and the 160gb iPod "classic"

argh... see how much they are in Australia first

I think the capacity is fine for the features given.

Yea compare it to the Nano, this thing is a steal. $100 extra for a web browser and a huge screen with pretty much the same battery life.

<JHiLounge> Featured, top ten, search, and downloads
<JHiLounge> you can pick top tens from all of iTunes, any genre you love,
<JHiLounge> top songs/top albums
<JHiLounge> Tap it, free previews over wi-fi for every song in the store
<JHiLounge> confirm with a buy now button and it gets transferred to the iPod touch.
<JHiLounge> Next time you dock, it syncs back up to iTunes.
<JHiLounge> You can search for anything in the whole iTunes store. Same prices, same selection.

i was expecting 16 and 32GB, but 16GB is decent. It's priced about right when you consider the featureset. And i fail to see how iPhone users are screwed, again, give the price and features of both the Touch and iPhone.

Does the iPod touch now have a Mail app like the iPhone does? I didn't see a Mail icon....

Disappointed they went for thin and not for a HDD.
Hm.
I'm back on the fence.
Hm.
One fifth of my music collection but the Web (mostly) anywhere...
Hm.

ipod touch: 16GB flash @ $350

That's my prediction
Well, close enough ;)

I'll probably have to take a long hard look at my music/podcast collection, and if there's enough to fit it into 16gb (with room to grow) then I will probably start saving for the $399/16gb iPod touch.

Still no word on Wifi podcasts or Wifi internet radio -- that will probably be the deciding factor for me.

I'll prolly wait til 3rd.

Touch would be cool if it was fatter and had the 160 gig hard drive. Touch would be cool if it had iChat. But Touch isn't that cool.

Ugh... makes me want a Zune a little bit.

I need at least 30GB, and the Classic looks boring as hell.

Damn it Apple!! Make a Touch with a hard drive!

Yeah, but not nearly as nice to use. G-mail has a few issues when using it through the browser on the iPhone. The Mail App is much better.

podcasting, radio, AND iTMS over wifi would be a lot to sweeten me over.

Uh, don't forget the screen size increase. Watching video on the iPod touch/iPhone is WAY better.

Oh wells, I don't need further distraction from my goal of getting a macbook in the next month or two. I just wish they'd hurry up and announced the rumoured new ultra-slim, ultra-light macbook!
