Shuffle - For a day's playlist at the gym
Nano - For casual listeners who want an ipod cheap
Ipod - For music lovers to take their entire collection everywhere
Touch doesn't have a clear music-centric niche.

TwinsDad said:So for $399 I can either get a 8gb iPhone or a 16gb iPod touch?
Seems to be a failure in pricing.
Falch said:Indeed, very interesting. Do they normally just replace the dollar sign for a Euro sign? 400 Euro for a 8gb Iphone is actually a competitive price in that segment, imo.

I'm resigned to the fact that I probably need at least two portable devices for the forseeable future, because no one is going to effectively combine a full-on cellphone with a dedicated game machine anytime soon. Everything else is getting converged into one or the other.theBishop said:I think i'd be willing to pay $250 for a 32GB memory stick and just use my PSP for everything. Its music interface is kinda shitty, but at least it would do everything I want.
That didn't say you didn't like music, just that the iPod shuffle's not exactly for someone who wants to be listening to music 24/7esbern said:i play seven instruments, go to at least one concert per week, have 250gb of music on an external harddrive, and have a shuffle. guess i'm not a music lover
Apple does that, PLUS hike the price.Falch said:Indeed, very interesting. Do they normally just replace the dollar sign for a Euro sign? 400 Euro for a 8gb Iphone is actually a competitive price in that segment, imo.
Btw, has anything been unveiled concerning the European Iphone launch yet?

How about the sounds of eBay scalpers who will be eating a $200 loss on every unit they've purchased?aoi tsuki said:$399 8GB iPhone? Ouch! The sounds of early adopters crying will be drowned out by the screams of angry customers unable to find one in stores.
i doubt Sony's systems had the profit margin of the iPhone.Aurelius said:Come on Sony. See, it's not that hard.
guise said:hold on, did they actually give a date for the ipod touch?
border said:Okay, fuck iPod Touch.......$400 iphone wins (especially considering they will probably have refurbished ones for $300).
Up until this point, I was going to say that they had done a great job of balancing their product line and making sure that no single product overwhelms another. But now they've pretty much killed the 16gb iPod Touch. Sure it's got twice as much capacity as the iPhone, but if you're going to have to capacity either way you might as well get the one that has a phone included.
So, how do you unlock an iPhone again?

Which phones have a touch screen with multitouch, WiFi, and 16GB of storage?dork said:anyone willing to pay 400 dollars for the Itouch, is going to have more than 16gb of music. Not to mention you can pay the same price and get a phone with the same features. Such a rip
Dartastic said:This is just irritating to me because I honestly believe that there are too many models out right now. I'd really just have rather had Apple not even announce the iPod Touch, and upgrade the iPhone with a price drop. Like, because seriously, who the hell is going to buy an iPod Touch when you can get one with a phone, email apps, etc. for the same price? Besides, at 16 gigs you're probably STILL going to have to manage what music you have on your iPod through your computer, so why not get the phone in it with all the added features? Bah.

You don't have to switch to AT&T anymoreGDJustin said:I won't switch to ATT, EVER. And plus, even if I was willing to switch, I'm not able to for another 8 months or so.
There are millions and millions of iPod owners in the same position, I'm sure. Just as I'm sure there are millions and millions of iPods given as GIFTS given every year - you think someone is going to give someone a phone as an xmas gift - "here you go - your present is a big monthly bill!"
