Apple has admitted that a "small number" of the screens on its new iPod Touch have trouble displaying dark images. Now let's see if Cupertino takes the next step and replaces the glitchy Touches free of charge.
In his review of the Touch, Wall Street Journal tech guru Walt Mossberg notes that some "early" units of the Touch (although not his pair of review units, apparently) suffered from faulty screens; indeed, I could barely make out the dark scenes in "The Hunt for Red October" on my test Touch, and several other reviewers have pointed out the problem as well. Mossberg reports that Apple has admitted to the problems, adding that only a "small number of units" were affected and that the issue is "being remedied."
I'm glad to see that Apple has owned up to the Touch's bum screen (or at least, to the "small number" of Touches with faulty LCDs). Of course, I'd be even happier if Apple offered to replace the defective iPods for free. If you happen to be one of the unlucky few (that is, assuming the "small number" figure is correct), call Apple customer support, read the excerpt from the Mossberg review and demand a replacement; hopefully, they'll oblige.

Do you have that wallpaper handy? Couldn't see it in the flickr pool of wallpapers.dskillzhtown said:Kinda crappy pic, but lighting was messed up:

I will take another with better lighting conditions. The screen is perfect, just my lack of light and rushing to take the pic makes it look crappy.
Isnt that the screens native resolution anyway? No point in going highterDazzla said:Do you have that wallpaper handy? Couldn't see it in the flickr pool of wallpapers.
As for video, I'm encoding 16:9 stuff at 480 x 272. You can encode at higher resolutions but gotta save space!

Yeah sadly that would be the most useful area to have it for.Olivier said:Nope. And no 802.1X auth support either.
The sad thing is, most universities that offer WiFi access use VPN or 802.1X, so *lots* of students are going to be disappointed. A damn shame.

Anticipating a non-gimped iPod Touch in the future.
Xater said:I have a problem with the new Nano. When I listen to a podcast or an audio book and it is finished it goes to the next podcast or audio book and play that one. I want that the new nano plays those like the old nano did: Play podcast/audio book stop and play nothing elsen when its finished. Is there a way to do this?

1. I can't seem to set my own pictures as wallpapers.
2. I bought some songs via the iTunes-store on my touch. Now how am I supposed to get those over to the computer?

yayaba said:1. There's nothing under Settings | Wallpaper?
2. Sync it back to iTunes. When you connect it it should upload the songs you bought back up.
2. Yeah, this worked just fine.dskillzhtown said:1. Put the wallpaper you want as a picture in your itunes picture folder, when it syncs to your Touch. View the picture on the Touch and set it as background.
2. the next time you sync, the songs will be moved to your PC.

Still no luck with the wallpapers though. I do have some pictures on the iPod but if I select them as wallpapers nothing happens.
Well, now I sure as hell am. :loldskillzhtown said:You are aware that the wallpare only shows when you aren't doing anything and the Touch goes to sleep, right?
Am I crazy for thinking that kinda defies the purpose of wallpaper? I was confused by that when I was testing Ipod Touch, and for a good five minutes I thought the functionality was simply broken. What's Apple's word on that, do they ever plan to change how wallpapers work?dskillzhtown said:You are aware that the wallpare only shows when you aren't doing anything and the Touch goes to sleep, right? When you hit the button to turn it on, the wallpaper will show then, until you unlock it. The background is always black when using the device.
Five minutes? It took me at least an hour of fiddling around with that thing and I still didn't notice.Marconelly said:I was confused by that when I was testing Ipod Touch, and for a good five minutes I thought the functionality was simply broken.
It's all a matter of time until you decide to try locking it. Obviously I tried to lock it just to see what it looks like to unlock it, not because I was ever expecting I'll see wallpaper on that screen only. It's just completely counter-intuitive.so1337 said:Five minutes? It took me at least an hour of fiddling around with that thing and I still didn't notice.

Memles said:I am under the impression that it is NBC Universal owned shows only that apply to the ban. As a result, shows from different production companies (Warner Bros., in Chuck's case at least) are able to place their shows onto the iTunes service.
