shit is cool but i'll wait a year later where they cut the price by half

Then I guess today wont be the last time Apple disappoints you.

$829 for the 3G version with 64gb of space is essentially bending the customer over and committing prison rape.

You do know that the IPad is completely compatible with all 523 fart apps for the IPhone right? Viva la revolution.

They never drastically drop the price. They slowly lower it while upping the specs. Just look at the iPod classic models now. Or the nanos.

Yeah, I knew somebody would say something like this. Which is true, but the half price thing isn't happening.

Why must the future be touch-controlled? I fucking hate it. I hate having my fingers over the display. I'd hate watching a movie on a fucking screen that's full of finger spots. Fingers are greasy. I will not live without a keyboard.

I agree with this.

So is the pricing though. Charging $100 for an extra 16 GB of storage? What year is this?

I don't think it's that simple. I don't think that when a company prices a product, they price it and just add things and increase the price.

They carefully assess the entire line, determine which models are likely to be the biggest sellers and analyse the costs appropriately.

For example, maybe the 16GB model is more like $519 and the 32GB $569. But they really want to bump the 16GB below $500, and they think it will be a big enough seller, so they bump up the 32GB to $599. Poor example, but they probably take into account all models within a product line and spread it out accordingly based on who they think they will sell, as opposed to just component increase.

On a positive note, I wonder what stupid blatant abusing app will be the first to make headlines that takes advantage of the larger screen? You know someone is going to try and capitalize on that with a quick app. I seriously mean stupid apps like the I'm Rich app or whatever it was called.

I'll wait till the price for non gimped ones is realistic, and the screen doesn't end an inch from the edge.

That is by design and is actually pretty good. the way you will hold the iPad you wouldnt want to touch the screen when still active,

You know, Apple has attempted to pretend this is a serious platform with the launch of the iWork suite, but don't kid yourselves about notetaking or whatever.

Like all of Apple's products, the iPad is a consumer device. Maybe with the books and the newspapers they are trying to target the older demographics who don't wanna deal with traditional computers.

Anyways, come launch we'll see how this evolves... by the way, no GPS, right?

Without the bezel, good luck holding the iPad and not touching the screen.
This is not like the iPhone where you can just hold it from the edges and the back, here you need to grab the edge and get a finger on the front to hold it steady. Seriously, try it with a notebook and try to 'touch' around it.

The 3G model has GPS.

The bezel will reduce, you only need half that size, and i'd rather a thumb over a portion of a pic than a smaller screen. Make an optional digital adjustable bezel for people who want one

No, It has way more functionality. Custom homepages, anon browsing, fullscreen.
Worth the .99 for this alone. Every little bit helps when working with such constrained screen real estate.

Looks interesting enough. My phone-contract ends in december, hopefully the iPad will be released in Holland by then and my service provider will have it on offer when you renew your contract.

I haven't read the whole thread, so this has probably been covered every other page without me knowing, but it seems like people are disappointed in the iPhone/iPod Touch apps. One look at the MLB and iWork apps showed me what's possible on the iPad when apps are specifically made for it. The MLB app is just incredible.

It's not for everyone, but it seems like a very nice tool for those of us who don't want to sit at the desk all day and travel moderately.

I honestly think the best market for this device is the computer illiterate demographic. I mean there's no intimidating input devices... everything is inputted directly onto the screen with context sensitive icons. It runs an OS specifically designed for the hardware,so no compatibility problems, AND spyware and adware problems which typically bog down the computer illiterate's machine is also avoided, . The UI is made t o be intuitive and friendly where no multitasking may actually be a plus. And connecting to the internet does not require attaching external peripherals .. you just pay the subscription fee to AT&T and it just works.

Plus they can use it to read web pages, newspapers, and email, plus other utility applications that are sold in the app store on the machine itself. Which means you don't have to install CDs or DVDs like on a PC.. but rather just click and buy and it works.

Very cool. I can see myself with one a few years down the line. First it needs multi-tasking, and all the stuff already mentioned in this thread a million times.

It's very nice to see an extremely intuitive, light, touch platform that will eventually be able to take care of all my common computing tasks with speed and ease.

It's not. It's voice-activated.

I have a question: As this device will not be a part of the "official" AT&T phone network, will the iPad work on Edge where 3G is not available?

Holy crap! I definitely can't afford that now, but I guess I will pay attention and see if I can find something cheaper in the future.
I'm just 'scared' about all the companies going the Apple way and just ignoring 'penabled' screens with pressure sensitivity :( I wouldn't mind if Apple charged me $130 for that kind of screen+pen combo instead of the 3G thing :P but then again an actual Wacom costs much more than that, so yeah, I guess that would be impossible.
2730p is a deluxe business model. Fujitsu T4310 is a consumer model. $1150 new:

T4410 has a better LCD and slightly lighter chassis:

I want to be able to take notes in class with a stylus....

smart graph making and etc would be nice in a note taking app or something....

Thanks for the links!. Right now I can't even afford those but I will be doing some part-time job in a couple months so I'll use that money to purchase something like this..

I might just wait a few more months so see how things go now that Apple has announced the iPad..
But yeah, the iPad with pressure sensitive stylus would be just perfect.

Again, thanks a lot for all the info!.

You don't need to be computer illiterate to appreciate an experience like you just described.

And now back to regularly scheduled iPad discussion...

My iPhone 3G works on EDGE (Tmobile).

So I don't know the tech, but is it impossible to use a pen / stylus on this? would be great if you could use an optional pen for art applications.

Yes, because EVERYTHING AT EVERY MOMENT would have to involve voice input.

There are enough jackasses and self involved morons to make voice annoying. It's like push to talk all over again.

There are capacitive stylus' you can use with the iphone or this, but for artistic use they'll be a bit limited from a lack of pressure sensitivity.

Really, really disappointed in the interface, or lackthereof.

Despite the glorious 10" display, I look at that homescreen (and the lock screen) and see nothing but lazyness and a lot of wasted space. I should be running widgets of all kinds on the homescreen, and likewise get updates for email/news/weather on the lock screen. The iPhone app compatibility seems a bit half-assed, too. Let me run iPhone apps like I would a widget overlaid on top of the homescreen; I don't want blurry pixel doubling or have to look at a single tiny window in the middle of my beautiful 10" display.

No multitasking is understandable on a device as small as an iPhone (barely), but it doesn't fly with a device that can't be pocketed and is seemingly designed to be used lounging around the house on a comfortable couch. Don't give me the same capability as an iPhone which is something I can take out of my pocket in a second and check news headlines or the weather or sports scores and put right back in my pocket without missing a beat. The iPhone is mobile, it's small, and it's perfect at what it does. Also, why no voice-to-text? What Google is doing with that feature on Android 2.1 is great and I at least expected Apple to counter with something for the iPad as voice-to-text can work great for short text input. Overall, I think Apple stuck too closely to the iPhone experience with the software capabilities and I can only look at it as a half-assed interpretation of what a device the size of an iPad should be capable of.

Hardware-wise, there isn't much to complain about, but I'm absolutely baffled by the lack of a front-facing camera for video iChats and the lack of one just reeks of Apple holding it back intentionally so they can sell it to me as a new feature of iPad v.2. This isn't some kind of magic technology Apple, we all know tiny cameras don't cost a lot of money to build in, even the average Joes. Also really disappointed to see no GPS in the Wi-Fi only model. I don't mind the

Really, the price is the only thing saving them and I'm almost tempted to get the $500 one, but 16GB is a weak amount of space for a device like this. 32GB needs to be the absolute minimum.

You could say I have high expectations and all that, but with Apple toying around with tablets since the 80s it's not unreasonable to expect something a bit more than what they've given us today, especially in terms of the user interface.

But, I know the apps will come (the MLB thing was great, Brushes wasn't bad either) and that could wind up saving this thing from a fate enjoyed by Apple TV. But, Apple better get off their ass and give us a good desktop/homescreen interface that really takes advantage of that display area if they want this to be as revolutionary as the iPhone was.

The only way I would consider buying one is if I could add it as an additional device to my pre-existing 3G data plan. Do phone companies let you do that?!

Also wanted to add what a brilliant move it was to move to these new micro SIM cards. Don't even think about popping your iPhone SIM out and putting it in your iPad for a quick data fix, nope, let's make you get another data plan.

"iPad ad guy"? That's Jonathan Ive! Respect.

oh, i had no idea who he was. So he's the one to blame whenever someone thinks a mac is better because it looks nicer lol :P

The ad made it look very attractive, but i can't help but feel it would be a million times better if you could multi-task . Also, i don't quite understand why they didn't make the screen 16:9
The movies don't even take up 75% of the screen

Agreed. It's boring, doesn't "pop", and I don't like the dock.

Not agreed. No one wants a shitload of clutter and bullshit, okay maybe Droid users, but they're wicked retahded. Kidding.
...sorta.

If you want to know the weather boot up WeatherBug/Weather Channel or go outside.
If you want to check your mail, slide your finger, and look for the red dot.

Could they do a push notification system or something? Sure, but no no no to the hideous widget assfuckery like most modders do with iPhone's homescreen.

Multitasking. Yeah. We all want that. I think for the most part I could live without, but I'd prefer it in. Even if it's a position int eh dock that allows for a background process of our choice. I don't mind if it cuts back on battery life by 40% - let us choose whether we want that. Just one app. This is a tablet, the battery life on the go is not as important as a phone.

I think it's limited by the fact that it uses the EXACT OS as the iPhone. They need to separate them slightly in base features.

16:9 is good and all, but it would look odd in portrait orientation, which I assume is the 'default' position (despite what Jony says in the ad).

I still want one. I wonder how the touch scales with iPhone apps running fullscreen? I hope most of the developers jump on the bandwagon and make their apps universal, or at least make versions that are specific for iPad.

If Multi-Tasking is coming then it will be in a Software Update before the next iPad is out,
just because ya'll bustas don't have that sheezy on lockdown don't mean you should be treating Apple like a bunch of buster ass trick ass marks. Shiiitittttttttt.

The iPhone beyond the 3G and faster 3GS has changed 90% through software update. Chillax, brosephina.
Apple is in this game for the long haul. The iPhone wasn't perfect at launch. This won't be either.

But they're "BLAM WE'RE HERE WE'RE APPLE -- GET USED TO IT". First on the market crotch feasants!

Maybe because using the device for everything else besides movies is much more important than movies ?

It would be unusable in portrait mode if it was 16:9.

Also what's with these 8 paragraph diatribes were people offer up their 'take' ? Nobody cares!

Mine was only 3 and I think you cared a lot. Tonight it will haunt you how much you care.

But yes Burgar is right about the 16:9. What Mac computer has ever had perfect widescreen?
None, playa! Ya'll got a big ol' black bar right in your face! The big thick veiny black border on the iPAd just kinda gets up in your eyeholes n' shit!!!
