FYI. You don't need to drag from the arrow to close control center. You can swipe downward from above the control center area and it will close. No need to grab just the arrow.

i see. know how I missed that? the arrow is barely in my thumb's (comfortable) reach, at least when I hold my phone the way I've done for years now for quick access... the way I hold when actually using it, the bottom edge is a stretch... I'll adapt, but I now really miss the smaller screen size. again.

ios 7 really isn't that different besides control center until apps start updating. Unless you are a wacko that still uses the default apps for stuff.

any chance we'll be able to delete default apps in future versions?

So you can password-protect the disabling of Find My iPhone, but doesn't allowing access to Control Center from the lock screen effectively nullify this? Someone could just steal your iPhone and immediately put it into Airplane Mode.
What would they do with it? Turning off the phone, which they've always been able to do, has the same effect as airplane mode.

The new security features are meant to deter theft by preventing erasing your device, turning off find my iPhone, and reactivating it.

I hear ya. One nice thing about iOS 7 that’s somewhat related is the system wide “back” and "fwd” gestures in new apps that you slide from the left and right side of the screen. means having to reach the nav arrows on the top of the screen for some apps is less important. that was always the hardest part to hit with the 5’s bigger screen.

for the second bit, I don’t know if Apple will do this but I could see a time where apps like weather and stocks have - like the nike+ app - sections in settings to disable the apps. I’d be surprised if they let us delete the bundled apps as they’d then need to be redownloadable form the store.

You can disable access to Control Center under settings if that really bothers you, but as someone else mentioned they could always just shut off the phone anyways.

I think my old iPhone 4 is screwed. I have an iPhone 5 as my primary phone but I registered and put the beta on my iPhone 4 also. Thing is, I never kept up with the beta updates. So come time now for me to try the GM and iTunes is saying it needs the pass code but on my iPhone 4 I'm stuck at the activation screen which it won't get past. I can't put it in DFU mode either. So... I guess my iPhone 4 is now screwed because I didn't keep up with the beta updates?

Wow, I never knew you could turn an iPhone off from the lockscreen without unlocking it. I guess that answers that.

Yes.

But now you can download the GM and unscrew it.

Yes.

It won't let me though. When I plug it into my laptop, iTunes says it can't connect cause the phone is locked with a passcode. But on the phone, I can enter the passcode and unlock it, select my Wi-Fi network, but then when I try to activate it just kicks me back since it won't activate. I can't get the phone into DFU mode either, although I'm not sure if I'm having difficulty because the power button doesn't work all the time or not.

So what color are most of you guys planning to get? I have a white 4S and was swearing to switch back to black but... there's something about that gold... I may have to see these in person.

Hmm... not sure what to make of it. I guess you really have to get it into DFU or you're sol.

I guess I didn't read your previous post properly before replying :| Sorry.

Black, altho the gray part kinda sucks. Still better than white and gold.

iTunes Radio might be the hidden gem of iOS 7. I've already discovered so much new music that I've added to my wish list. Pandora's library and algorithm just doesn't compare.

I've only ever had black phones, but I'm really tempted by that gold one!

Same, although the black border around the screen/between the screen and the white face bothers me a very unreasonable amount, I dunno if I can get over it.

It seems that the wider world is beginning to notice just how underwhelming the latest Apple "event" was...

Google Laughs at the New iPhones

Fingerprint sensor? You mean the same thing I got on my Dell (DELL_) laptop in 2007? And on the Motorola (MSI_) Atrix Android smartphone in January 2011? If Apple's latest claim to fame is to having copied a Dell 2007 laptop and a January 2011 Motorola smartphone, then Apple is in trouble.

Which is why Google is celebrating today.

Google's Android and Chrome teams were already nicely ahead of Apple's iOS team in terms of service integration, customization, ease of use and ability to ship a given grade of hardware at a much lower price.

Over the next few months, Google's Android and Chrome teams seek to extend their existing lead over Apple. The company will introduce Android OS version 4.4 KitKat, a slew of new Chromebook laptops starting around $199, a Chromepad (touchscreen Chrome OS tablet) and next summer the first Chromephone (Chrome OS replacing Android on the smartphone). The pace of innovation at Google is simply faster than it is at Apple these days.

I'm actually pretty interested in the idea of the new pro refreshes using the touchID thing - that might be pretty cool.

That being said, this article just popped up in my feed

New iPhones a yawn in China; Apple stock sinks - USAToday

So much for the expectation that Apple's Beijing satellite iPhone launch event would be anything special. Apple simply replayed a video recording of the California show and then allowed attendees to play with the new devices.

Investors across the Pacific appear underwhelmed, too: Apple stock is down more than 5% in morning trading in U.S. markets.

The new iPhones go on sale next week in China and they are very expensive. The starting prices for the 5c and 5s are $735 and $867, respectively. Given the supposed market segmentation strategy it seems strange that the 32G 5c model is the exact same price as the 16G 5s model.

Those prices are firmly at the high-end of the China market and the 5c is priced well above what many analysts expected. Those hoping that Apple was going to have a credible mid-market phone to regain market share will likely be disappointed.

5C's price wasn't what was foreseen, so this reaction is expected. People thought the 5C would be a cheap phone made for "emerging" markets, or places where subsidies aren't the norm. What we got instead was a iPhone 5 replacement with colors.

I’m really hoping it makes it to Canada in around the same time it took itunes match to get up here. Think that was 3 or 4 months.

You don't even need to do that. Just tap above Control Center, no swiping required.

Radio is indeed really good. After a morning of listening I've basically decided I can lose Pandora. The integration is slick and I love having the history saved around for viewing later. I can't imagine how many more songs will be sold with as easy as it is now.

The Siri upgrades are really good too. Recognition seems to have improved a ton and it's quicker as well.

I find bringing up the control center hard to do.

Same here. Sometimes it just doesn't want to pop, whereas I have no problem with notification centre. I find I sometimes open the camera from the lock screen too, instead of control centre, since I'm using my thumb on my right hand and I'm naturally gravitating to that corner. Now I mention it, I'm still not sure what the exact area is for opening the camera from the lock screen, that control is absolutely horribly placed.

Safari is so much faster and usable now.

I went under iCloud backup (finally sprung for the extra 10GB a year) and I noticed it said my phone was still restoring? Every app had been loaded and everything looked ok, so I told it to stop so I could back up again.

Some kind of after effect of manually installing iOS 7?

I have it, but it's text and not images. I think you might need to enable Weather under Location Services for to work.
Mmm it's enabled. It shows words for a second and then disappears. Won't stay. Any ideas?
Other than that. Absolutely loving the new look

Yep. They basically stuck the finger to current iPhone5 owners too since they essentially killed the resale value.

I had to do a double take at the 5C off-contract price. That's not a cheap phone by any stretch of the imagination.

Did you just enabled it? When I did it took a while for some odd reason to update. Even if I went to the weather app the "local" one took a while to get all it's data. After that it worked fine though.
