Arc Rise Fantasia |OT| of "MUST ANSWER MY CALLING"

I got caught a few times by ennemies that look like any other of the lesser mob but are Elites or whatever...you can tell by the music change and they give tons of WP...too bad the last one I fought, all my weapons where maxed out...

Finally killed that Ravine Boss, after about 4 tries...on to the next Rogress search.
Yes, but It's really hard to fight a boss using recent acquired weapons, I tried a few times to no avail, then I switched to my faves and I finally killed that pot monster.

I`m heading to repair the ship also now...hopefully it does what I hope, because there`s a Guild Quest that I can`t go to ever since I accepted it and it looks like a nice special fight...there`s also a place I remember trying to go into but I had a weird message and got turned away...maybe it`s for a similar Guild Quest...also finally got a Boss fight that I managed to beat on my first try hehe...

Hey Kenji, around what level are you for that final Boss?(spoiler it just in case hehe).

Thus far i have beaten every boss on my first try the most recent being Deathscyte he was the hardest one though, i guess my obsession with maxing out everything is to be blamed here.

This game is pretty horrible. I'm probably only playing it because I just got out of school and jobless. Battle system is okay. Grinding is way too much but it's easy with Alf's wooden sword + aoe exact act. But still, takes up too much time.

the worst thing about that twist is that
you get the worst characters of the party >_>

This party is so incredibly lifeless.
I still plan on joining it very soon though.
I think I'm getting close to finishing the 360 game that hooked me just when this was shipped to me.

I tried beating
Allul at the Resolvent Iceberg
at that level and she just destroyed me with ease. :/

Yeah, the game totally falls back on all the genre tropes in the last third. I liked some of the twists and turns in the first third
with the group splitting and a nicely done transition to this rivalry/race to the Rogress
, hooked me right then and there. Too bad. :/

For some reason this game clicks with me. It's like my brain tells me to kill it fire yet my heart must have exceedingly low standards so I keep going. I've trounced all the bosses so far (
deathscythe
giving me the most trouble and the
ravine boss
only taking me two tries). I guess i'm lucky because I find weapon grinding to be pretty addictive so the redundancy hasn't hit me yet at 25 hours.

I don't know if my opinion will change after I complete this, but the game definitely belongs in the same tier as something like Enchanted Arms. I guess I have a soft heart for B/C level games XD

Question: Not only did I just find out that you could actually win the
beach
fight, but I'm now at the part where you have the lightship and are hunting rogresses. Which ones are a must have since I missed out on
Rufunga
?

I've been playing this game for a while now and I'm at the 30-hour mark, on my way to Galois Ravine, and so far I'm absolutely loving it. Yes, the voice acting is bad, but that's only one blight on an otherwise fantastic game. The battle system is nice, the weapon customization system, while a bit limited, works well, the music is fantastic, and I don't know what the hell they did to the official screenshots, because this game looks absolutely gorgeous on my 60" plasma w/ component cables. Textures are crisp and clean, poly models are nicely detailed, and I don't see any jaggies. It's so nice to be playing an RPG with a proper world map again, and having visible enemies makes it that much more nicer.

For some reason, and I don't know why, I get a Baten Katios vibe from this game, especially in towns. It might be some combination of the music, fixed angles, and the type of things random townspeople say.

So far I only have a few complaints:

1. The game isn't quite balanced properly; normal enemies are easy, but the bosses are so much more difficult that they can easily kill you. I think I've found a good indicator of how strong you should be before you fight a boss though: If you level up until the monsters in the area no longer come after you (i.e. they don't get the red ! over their heads), you'll be fine at the boss. I'll have to play longer to test this out.

2. Very minor. While the fixed angles in dungeons are cinematic and wonderful when you're going in, on the way out they're very obscuring, as you really can't see what's in front of you.

3. A plot-related thing that annoys me:
I totally don't get Adele's personality change after becoming the Real Diva. Did she just go batsh*t insane when she found out or something, because it's such a complete 180 that I can't understand her motivation.

And I have a few questions:

1. Are costumes only for the menu screens? I would love to see everyone run around in their different outfits in battle or the world map.

2. After all this time playing, I've only used the Kopin once. Are breakable walls that rare in this game, or did I just miss a lot?

3. What's up with the luck stat in ths game? It seems like it's totally random.

1.
Sadly only on the menu..it would be cool to see Cecille, for example, running around in her Sherlock Holmes outfit hehe

2.

Yeah,I think I used him twice,he just appears and breaks a wall...

3.

Yeah,it`s strange because you sometimes get those items that raises the levels of those stats...

It's a pretty common thing in Japanese media that I call the love square. Most often (as in the case with this game) it involves two best friends (typically male) in which one of them loves x-girl/guy but x-girl/guy loves the other friend who loves some other 4th person(usually a latecomer to what would have otherwise been a love triangle). This naturally leads to a 2 vs. 2 situation.

Specifically to this game, Adele hates L'arc for ignoring her (unexpressed) feelings towards him and seemingly falling in love with the new girl (Ryfia). Adele's primary reason for becoming a Diva was in the hope that L'arc would leave Ryfia and become her Child of Eesa. Alf, in turn, has always loved Adele but never acted on it because he knew she loved L'arc. Nevertheless, he would do anything for her so he became L'arcs rival.

1. Are costumes only for the menu screens? I would love to see everyone run around in their different outfits in battle or the world map.

Yes. You will get a few skits with them but that's it. Really disappointing.

2. After all this time playing, I've only used the Kopin once. Are breakable walls that rare in this game, or did I just miss a lot?

I'm about where you're at but yeah, I've only used him once. Might come more into play late/post game.

3. What's up with the luck stat in ths game? It seems like it's totally random.

Basically anything that is random is increased by luck. This includes criticals, arm force activation, item drops, steal probability, ect.

Yeah but if you look at the menu and their status at any given time, sometimes it says `Luk` 7 for example and if you use the item that raises it,it goes to 8 but if you look 5 minutes later it could be at 75,then later at 15,etc...so i`m not sure what the level it up item is worth hehe...

I get all that, but before she was captured, Adele didn't seem to have too much of a problem with Ryfia, and L'Arc seemed to make it clear that he wasn't interested in Ryfia like that. Adele and Ryfia seemed to get along fine, and I didn't feel like their was any kind of tension between any of the three. Either way, Adele didn't give him much of a chance to switch sides (a side that the entire party up until that point had been told was pure evil, I might add) before she tried to attack his party. I suppose I'll just have to chalk it up to emotions/hormones and leave it at that.

Oh, and I know that we're in videogame time, but Adele found out she was a Diva, got a costume change, learned everything a Diva is supposed to know, and went insane with jealousy all in a remarkably short period of time. Perhaps she snapped under the pressure?

This is what I was talking about with the Luck stat. The actual value of Luck for each character seems to fluctuate completely at random without regard for level or equiptment. Its like you really do have to be "lucky" when it comes to the stuff influenced by the stat.

Just got the game. Canceled my pre-order when I saw the first voice-over video. But saw it while shopping yesterday and against better judgement I bought it.

Really sad. I was so looking forward to this game when Xseed was behind it..

Did you miss Ignition's memo? The VA came out so fucked up because of XSeed's initial involvement. Get your facts straight. *rolls eyes*

XSEED would always do a better job.

We're excusing a company with a very negative track record against one that published nothing worse than competent jobs so far? I don't bite that. They used those because they wanted to, and if they wanted they could always do like they did with Muramasa (I'm surprised they aren't blaming XSEED for the crap localization they did on that one too)

And XSEED had promised dual audio, I believe.

This game was awesome, then the Ignition happened.

Yeah, I know. It think it was during or around E3. A journo mentioned the shitty VA to an Ignition rep during an interview or some such, and the dude had the balls to implicate XSeed's initial involvement. I forget the exact details, but clearly I was mocking Ignition with the eye-rolling bit.

Not that they really need any more mocking. Ignition's DS and Wii localization efforts basically speak for them.

I didn't get the irony and thus went trigger happy on it, my apologies.

Not enough when at the end of the day they're still a business. :(

OK I have sunk nearly 50 hours in this game.. ALMOST started to completely understand the story. I grinded my chars up to lv 55 (Almost enough for endgame) and teched out my weapons to the T

So... I just
saved that random bitch in the soliton caves, ran into saura and luze and find out she's perhaps a rogress, and went into a random battle with alf

Oh and alf and his team did a triple geo impact on the first round, knocking out a fully healed and DEF'd up pink slutgirl, greyhair guy, and blonde fake pirate scumbag.. forcing me to start alll the way from my last save.

Sigh.. time to put this game away for a while. It's an exercise in torture to keep playing. It took nearly 40 hours for the story to make sense, and most of it is explained more thoroughly through random party chatter and talking to NPCs rather than the actual cutscenes. I STILL don't know what the fuck a Reductio is and am only starting to understand what the fuck Hozone is and its still not explained what Hozone pollution is or what the fuck it affects.

this game makes me so damn angry...

Okay, fuck the Ebur Ruins. You spend an hour going through a dungeon with one save point at the very beginning and then you get massacred by the boss. You also can't go back to the save point after a certain point. Guess I'll have to grind outside :(

OK Guys WTF is up with this translation :lol

Get the resistance pin then go to the Vendor: Golden Rice in Ebur, sitting outside on the barrels to the right when you first get to town. Oh she's all welcoming and nice when you first talk to her. Welcoming you and whatnot.

Once you buy your stuff and exit she says (And I quote)

"May God not bless you"
:lol :lol :lol

Is there any easy way to win in the casino?
That's what I was thinking, but since you have to grind SO MUCH in this game, you will soon be sitting with 2~3 million gil (or whatever the currency's name is).

I bought everything in the casino exchanging money for tokens. :lol

I saw the game for $29.99 at Futureshop in Canada. I'll wait a bit before grabbing it. It's a shame, as I was so looking forward to it, but the voice acting and poor localization as a whole killed the hype for me. :(

I wasn't part of the group who played the old poorly voice acted RPGs on the PS1, so it doesn't really hold much nostalgia for me.

This game is actually pretty awesome. Yeah, the localization is horrible (which is especially bad since the story and characters are very engaging), but the game is fun as hell. I've put 50+ hours into it in the three weeks or so since I bought it, and it's definitely really well crafted both in keeping the plot moving forward, as well as in the layout of the battle system.

The soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous, too. It's such a shame that Ignition dropped the ball on this.

I bought this game a few days ago, just waiting for it come in the mail. I'm turning off the voices. I just hope the actual writing/dialogue is good.

Beat it. Good ending. Figures the final boss ends up being one of the few I beat on the first try :lol .

Probably gonna write something for the review thread.

I'm 25 hours in the game right now. The 6 range reviews are total garbage. This game's is practically as good and similar to a Tales game. The VA isn't nearly as bad as people say. The only reason people think the VA is bad is because they saw early gameplay clips...and in the beginning the VA really isn't that good. It gets much, much better to the point where it's not mediocre anymore.

Very underrated RPG. If you want a good turn based RPG, get this.

Vanille said:
Now that's taking things a little too far...

Maybe, but this game really is similar to a Tales game (no surprise, some Tales members worked on it, including ToS's/Abyss's scenario writer). I still prefer Tales because of the action battle systems and the music is better, but the characters and story seem Tales quality so far. The world map is definitely better than Tales.

Also if you like Tales games, no reason not to get this.

I never heard of this game before and saw it while I was searching for stuff that I wanted to get for Christmas. I put it on my Christmas list. Was this a good or bad decision?

That's a tough call. There's some major problems with the voice acting and the dialogue is pretty bad though the story itself is fine if not a bit generic. It's like a Tales game but with a turn-based battle system.

What's bad about the dialogue? It's as good as a lot of RPGs.

I agree it is pretty much turn based Tales. If you like Tales, get this game.
