ARROW |OT| Green Arrow TV series on CW

That was easily one of the most disappointing episodes of Television I have watched in ages. I was enjoying the show a lot - and the soapy elements, while a little overdone in some episodes - have been quick and painless for the most part. But that episode was just awful - and there wasn't even any island scenes or good action scenes to redeem it.

Disappointed me greatly - I'll keep watching, but if this is a sign of what's to come I'm out.

I dont think De Gouw is remotely good. I just think she improved to the point where i wasnt distracted by her awfulness

I am not sure what the point of the show is if it just becomes a CW soap. It was occupying an empty space as an action show and has gone away from that. I guess its getting killed by marketing research.Only young males care about action shows and they're all playing the vidya games!

Most. Awkward. Dinner. Ever.

Alright!

Great episode, I dug it. Really liked de Gouw here. "Thanks for the sex" was pretty hilarious. Walter's back and rocking, which is awesome. China White continues to have a terrible wig. Helena ditching the crossbow and shooting the Triad dude with a pistol was actually fairly badass. Frank Bertinelli should have taken an arrow to the face. Shooting your own daughter? Kind of a dick move, even if she shot you first. The dinner scene was so, so awkward. Though, I did like Tommy and Laurel making up like adults afterwards. See Arrow producers, let this relationship exist, it's actually tolerable. Ollie/Laurel, no, it'll never happen, accept it. Ollie designing her costume on his PC was just... bizarrely hilarious. And revealing your secret lair on the third date? Ollie's just giving it away. Diggle was in fine disapproving form. No Diggle, don't fall in love with your sister-in-law. Liked the moment between them at the end where they're just laughing and joking in the restaurant. Still digging Felicity. While I was all for Helena/Ollie in the last episode, this episode made me realize this is probably a very unhealthy relationship, but maybe Helena will come around. Dinner scene asides, I think they have pretty good chemistry together (which makes me think that Ollie/Laurel sucking might be more the fault of the writers than the actors).

That workout scene was almost pornographic, the hell CW. Trying to make me feel bad about my body on purpose? Bastards.

Why didn't Ollie just kill China White? And kill Frank himself? I mean, I understand not letting Helena do it, but shit you could have taken the shot.

But I like that he's begun to clarify his stance on killing... not unless it's necessary. I can dig that.

Yeah the episode was very much like any other shitty CW drama. I want more action and whatnot. I mean, I figure CW is trying to get more male viewers with this show but episodes like that won't do it lol.

But I did like the episode still.

His body makes me really feel self-conscious and sick. I go to the gym 5x/week and I got nowhere near that result. I think the problem is my diet. I heard a cover model talking about how he got his body and he said that it's mostly 90% diet and 10% workout and not the other way around. I really don't want to just eat brown rice and tuna flakes just to achieve that though. I probably should also give up sugary drinks (not soft drink but tea, etc). :/

I vastly prefer the current "actual muscles" trend on male actors to the "tiny morsel with no muscles somehow wins fistfight" of the 80's and 90's shows. Seriously, shit was bad. Real bad.

During the whole 'kung fu' period -which includes power ranger kids tv domination- they played up the "actual fights" in Mortal Kombat for that reason as well. Show didn't live past one season though, but it was pretty good for its day.
(also: dat ending)

No joke. I've been working out a lot more since this show started. I think it's subconsciously motivating me.

Maybe Clevinger has the right idea, use it as motivation.

But man, it really does make me self-conscious too. I wonder what Amell's diet is like. It must be crazy-gross.

I have a hard time believing people are ripping on De Gouw when Cassidy is just as terrible. They are both ridiculously hot, but both are pretty equally terrible (imo, obviously). Still, I will keep watching this show, for some reason the bad qualities of the show aren't keeping me from enjoying the hell out of it.

10% workout, true story, your honor.

Yeah, nothings worse than watching this show with your S.O. and your out of shape. My wife is more into the show than I am, and after this episode Im starting to realize why.

I've warmed up to Cassidy quite a bit over the last couple of episodes. Probably cause she isn't a massive passive-aggressive confusing mess these last couple of episodes. I like de Gouw too.

Motivation to work out, yo.

the dietary discipline required to look like Ollie isnt worth it for me. i could knock the workouts but i could neeeeeeeeever stick to the diet.
props to him though granted its way easier for a celeb than the average person.

Cassidy is an awful actress but what I really dont like is how they style her. they make her look way less attractive on Arrow than she really is. at least i think so.

So true. My wife was checking into her facebook while we were watching, then that scene came on and she dropped her phone and just watched mezmerized.

She also said "wuss!" when he only went up on rung on the pull up ladder. We used to watch Ninja Warrior all the time where that this is used all the time.

So I hear that this show is the new hotness.

For those familiar with both shows, is this super heroes in the style of Smallville or is it different?

More Nolanverse/TDK-lite than Smallville. No superpowers. Bit of a darker world. Ollie's half-psychotic and cool with killing people.

Sounds like it is worth giving it a shot. Especially since most of the shows I follow are wrapping up their season.

I wonder what other heroes they'll bring into Arrow. We've had... Huntress so far. Who else can reasonably be brought in from the DC Universe and fit into this universe?

In my head, I've already sorta meshed the Nolanverse and the Arrowverse together.

Better yet: Nightwing.

You could also do Manhunter, Wildcat, the Question, and Mister Terrific off the top of my head. There's also the eventual additions of Black Canary and Speedy/Red Arrow/Arsenal.

I don't really see Thea taking up a bow and arrow. The Question might be cool. Not familiar with the others. Nightwing would be interesting, but wouldn't it be hard to incorporate him considering his ties to Batman? I don't see the CW bringing him or Gotham in ever (though they did reference Bludhaven). I kinda wanna see a modern version of the Golden Age Sandman. Been thinking about it and I have some neat ideas for a take on that character.

THere's no way they will bring Batman, but I imagine we might hear about Bruce Wayne in tv-news or something little as that.
Nightwing isn;t out of the question, since Olie already mentioned Blüdhaven in one episode.

Id like to see one of Superman's villains come to town and just level the whole city for the hilarity of it. That would be one epic troll ending to the series

Thea doesn't necessarily have to take up a bow. They could just bring in Roy Harper and have him skip being Speedy and jump straight to Red Arrow. (Of course, that said, there was a female Speedy, so...)

Nightwing wouldn't be too hard. Just have him make vague references to Batman ("My 'boss' asked me to come help you out), or even direct references to Bludhaven. Dick operates on his own more often than not, so you wouldn't need to bring in Bats.

As for the others:

Mister Terrific

250px-Jsa76.jpg

Third smartest man in the world. Owns his own business, so you could bring him in as a business partner of Queen Industries.

Manhunter

225px-Manhunter_KateSpencer.jpg

Works as lawyer, was at one point a member of the Birds of Prey along with Huntress and Black Canary.

Wildcat:

The most famous incarnation is Ted Grant, an old boxer that was a member of the JSA.

Wildcat and Manhunter are twins?

Man, it must suck being the third smartest guy in the world.

Finally all caught up on the show and enjoyed a lot of it. It's got some issues but does have some of that proper self correcting a lot of good CW shows seem to have built in. Could use a little less "you need to talk about the island!" convos every episode, and the Huntress plot was fairly ungrounded (in terms of her skills, expertise, it all felt rushed and the actress is no good) but the show is getting better. There was a weird issue with the actors early on where a lot of them stared right into the camera, but that's backed off for now. Laurel isn't too great of an actress (and god she is always made-up whenever somebody stops by her house unexpected - CW show to the max, lol) but they're working with her. I actually really like Digg and the stepdad - the stepdad especially I hope they don't fuck up, as he is the most normal anchor in this show. I can see them killing him off because he is too normal, but they should do more with him than get him caught in conspiracy plots. Also it has bothered me this whole time the show explicitly showed the mother early on that she tried to kill / kidnap her own son but then wants you to feel for her as she pals around and acts all domesticated and not schemey. It was a bizarre creative decision that almost feels as they wish they could take back, because I'm not too crazy about another episode where she falls and hits her head and has to do the whole 40 minutes from her bedroom.

Show's got potential and the dinner scene in the most recent ep was really well done. A little less mustache twirling could take this show a long way, in addition to some improvements in the acting department.

Also, for god's sakes, show Oliver eating something. The workout scenes are great, but my god, the dude has to be taking down like 6000 calories a day and he NEVER EATS. Lol

Also was hilarious how Ollie is like "I only kill people as a last resort" then the next scene he's Arrow, he point blank head shots a guy.

Also, this show has pulled so much from Batman Begins it's crazy, but I can't really blame it for not having an incredible amount of ways to expand beyond it. Plus, I enjoy that stuff anyways, so it's whatever.

Two episodes without island stuff though is feeling weird. Last ep felt twice as long especially just from being so stylistically different. Wonder how much juice they plan from getting from that orange.

I thought they were trying to get more female viewers. Kind of like they ruined Nikita. It frequently amazes me that Supernatural has been able to escape that fate.

Supernatural already has a huge wowmen fan base just from the brothers, it doesn't need anything and the men tuning it tune in the humor/gore/story.

It's got all it's bases covered and it's why it doesn't need to add unnecessary characters to bring in more males or females.

Supernatural's fanbase are mostly female viewers who will raise their pitchforks whenever a new female character comes to ruin their dream ship of either Dean/Sam (gross) or Dean/Castiel (cute friendship but as a gay guy I just don't see the sexual tension that the fangirls are blabbing about). I will forever blame the fangirls for getting rid of Katie Cassidy as Ruby and we ended up getting an even worse Ruby and then they complained about it even more. And then there was Jo, who I thought had a sweet chemistry with Dean, but of course the fangirls didn't want to have any of it.

I swear I will knock a magazine rack if they go ahead with this Owen/Alex BS on Nikita though.

As for this show, here's a promo for the next episode (mid season finale), "Year's End":
