Assassins Creed Valhalla - NEW GAMEPLAY - is this a day one purchase?

I haven't bought a single Assassin's Creed game at launch since the very first one. Even at that I only got it because there really wasn't anything else out at the time and I was too young to pay much attention anyway. Plus I liked the trailer for it alot.

Regardless as much as I dislike saying it I actually do plan to get this likely on PS5 at launch or at least close to it. Reason being I love anything norse/viking related.

I'm going in to the next gen super blind intentionally. I'm tired of being swayed by opinions, political bullshit, marketing etc so I've done all I can to stay away from it. I'm letting my own reason and my on appeals to sway what I purchase for next gen. I want to feel blindly excited again like I was when I was a younger. And not just bulk buy for variety of experiences.

Yeah, watching the combat video on Boomstick gaming and it looks fun! Of course it won't be as smooth as Ghost of Tshushima, it has to animate several different weapons and even main hand shield combos. Ghost has a katana and that is it, granted it has multiple stances and I love the game but it still only has one weapon. It's like comparing Dark Souls animations to Sekiro. I personally can't wait to bury a hatchet in a guys face and then stomp on the back of his head. Male Eivor for sure, the female looks terrible.

6-7 years and 3rd game, no need those excuses. they have studios and budget to make it smooth, with good animations.

they are not just talented enough nor they give a shit.

3 years between Origins and this game and did you watch that vid? I think the animations look good, especially considering the variety of weapons. Besides, there is a lot more to the game than combat.

I really recommend Black Flag. Maybe it's the setting, but it's the most fun I've had in AC period.

I love how they had some of the best animations in the industry in Unity (and maybe ACS) but that went to shit with Origins and beyond.
Unity is so underrated. Yes it ran like shit on console but the game itself was good. It actually runs great on xbox one x now.

Something is wrong with the video. I've seen other games from gamesradar that were uploaded and they all have stuttery/low framerate if that's your issue. As for the game itself, it's just Odyssey in a different skin with incremental upgrades. I'm going to buy it naturally as I always bought every single AC game despite their issues but day one? That's impossible with Cyberpunk releasing as well. If CP gets delayed, it's day one.
The shitty animations, character models, overuse of CB and overall outdated gameplay sure is GamesRadar's fault

Besides the woman character looking absolutely ridiculous and the frame drops it looks great. Thats not sarcasm btw. Ubi will most likely smooth out the performance unless they havent learned their lesson from unity. Im actually very excited for the game. Loved origin and odyssey and the new direction.

Is it the XBOX ONE version or the XBOX ONE X version that they're showing ?? It doesn't look much better thant a PS4 version to me.

Nothing is a day one purchase for me, at least not before I've seen reviews from people I trust and share interest with. This however looks enjoyable enough for me to jump back in. Last assassins creed I really enjoyed was black flag.

i don't need to watch anything. i played almost all Assassins games and also Tsushima.

Origins was in development way before Syndicate.

i liked all Assassins games and took how they were, but come on, people are not blind. origins(a little bit less), odyssey and this Valhalla looks clunky if we take into account other AAA games. i can understand Origin.
they change the game, combat etc., it was new, fresh, but now? there is no excuses. there are hundreds people working on it + millions in budget. but of course, if this clunky mess is your standard, so be it. it is not mine.

Stick to you games with 1-2 weapons(like the game in your avy) because you'll never be happy with RPGs that have several. There are reasons why Sekiro, God of War, and Ghost have great animations. There are way less than they have to model for Dark Souls, Skyrim, and the newest AC games. And Origins doesn't look any smoother than Valhalla. The video in the OP is chugging at a low framerate which is easily apparent. There is a reason people have quoted the video I posted and advises that it looked much better there but judge away on a video that is not representative of the game.

FFS people. It was one video that was glitchy probably due to being remote. No way the game plays like that. Other videos look fine. The game will probably look and play as good as Odyssey. That will not warrant playing this over Cyberpunk unless there is a GPU shortage and you can't get one until next year.

The last AC game I enjoyed was Black Flag. And especially disliked the new direction they took. This is a definite skip for me.

if you want go deeper.

in the sense, Origin=Odyssey=Valhalla. they have more than enough time to make it good. but they choose to Copy Paste, and not improve anything.. reaction on this topic are clear.

yep
also look at less compressed screenshots:

i have little doubt at least pc will look like that.

Pro:

Contra
> It's M'am
> 30fps

Sadly it didnt evolve at all from Odyssey.
The game looks like a mediocre RPG in a cool setting.

How does this look so bad? Graphically it's fine I guess but animations and shit look terrible.

Sucks because I love Vikings related stuff. Though it's annoying it takes place in England and not Scandinavia.

This game comes out 2 days before Cyberpunk. That's pretty rough. I'm sure lots of folks (myself included) are going to skip AC and get Cyberpunk.

I buy multiple games near console launches. Cyberpunk will be one of many including this. Those screens look awesome and the actual good combat vids look great!

Yea, vikings having their hair shaved on the sides so that they look like modern day lesbians.

Gonna play this instead of UBI shit...

True. I won't skip it entirely, I'll probably buy it used next year. The issues I'm seeing now just sound like the team being overworked as they are putting this out on several systems. I'm worried enough that I just can't support buying it day 1 knowing that I'll just be playing Cyberpunk 2077 for several weeks.

Having multiple weapons does not excuse bad/below average animations.

Cassandra was great. This female model is trash tier. Why are they going back wards?

Yeah why are they wasting their marketing dollars on that ugly viking with makeup? It's not selling the game at all.

When I think of viking I think of a huge violent badass power fantasy like God of War. Is it the SJW that called for this lady viking shit?

Same here, I'll pick it up on sale later. I definitely want to check it out at some point - looks pretty cool.

New gameplay footage from Assassins Creed that shows the protagonist fighting some of the mythical beasts from English folklore.

Personally I like the addition of myth and legend as the it helps distance the game from the real life atrocities the Vikings conducted... but the game appears to lack polish. Animations, frame rate, graphics aren't as good as I'd expect from this release.

For me, this has gone from being a day one purchase to a wait and see. Take a look at the footage, what do you think?

Is this guy just a crap player or are those shots just whiffing against the black dog? Combat seems incredibly stilted and awkward.

Cutscene models after the dog fight of our guy walking upto other guy look really basic.

Video on OP seems to be missing a lot of frames. I understand presentations were remotely done, so this might be a reason why
This one looks better, even though still low resolution video:

no matter how you cut it though, after ancient Egypt and ancient Greece, this locale and setting will most probably be not as good

Said it before, but this looks like somebody drowned a copy of Witcher 3 in hot liquid donkey shit. Quite how anyone would want this reskinned lazy bullshit is beyond me..,

I think it looks painfully average and that female character looks fucking awful. I swear game developers just don't understand women. In their tiny minds, strong woman = make her a man.

Regarding the female Eivor character model, let's hope that it gets improved for the final version. That face looks terrible, lol. How the hell can they go from Kassandra to that?

Anyway, didn't they say that there would be hair customization as well? So you could potentially get rid of that terrible looking Skrillex haircut she currently has and replace it with something less silly looking.

It would be nice if we could do that sort of customization before actually starting the game, but who knows how it's going to work?

Pass for me, haven't like Assassin creed since they tried to make it dark souls lite. I enjoyed the old style combat.
