Assassins's Creed PS4 is now 1080p with AA.

You're going places.

Please tell me that was sarcasm.

C'mon GAF. Devs are working with beta devkits right now. Give 'em a break.

Yep, I'm pretty surprised that people are finding a way to be upset about this. But then again, we are talking about people who play Assassin's Creed.

I really hope publishers will move to a new model when the target release date is for the digital version, will the retail one to follow let's say a week later. This will be better for everyone. Except maybe retailers...

Kind of bummed. This is the only launch game I picked up. I play pretty slow, so it will probably take me two to four weeks to finish it, so I'm hoping the patch comes out before then. Then again, my gaming laptop monitor resolution is some weird resolution like 900x1120 or something, so 900p isn't too bad. I'm just hoping the AA doesn't suck.

I really hope this isn't like AC3 where they released a buggy mess and then by the time everyone finished it they released a giant patch fixing everything.

well looks like the euro release of the ps4 will be perfectly timed so that every developer has his shit sorted out

I think this is very telling as to whether the Xbone version will run at 1080p:

Indeed, along with the full 1080p native resolution, the visuals have been improved even further, simply because the engineers knew that with the additional time they could do even more. So they did. And now, not only will you see every single miniscule pixel in glorious 1080p native resolution on the PS4 – exactly as the artists rendered it – but you’ll also see an even cleaner, clearer and more brilliant moving image than anyone even imagined. (Pay special attention to finer details like the ropes on the ships if you want to get an eyeful of what we’re talking about.) And the best news for gamers on the latest next-gen systems? This anti-aliasing technique will be available for both PS4 and Xbox One.

So one assumes from this that Xbone runs at a lower res but both have the updated PPAA technique.

The lack of timing for this patch is pretty suspect. And highly annoying. My copy is unopened, I might just return it until the patch is out, then re-buy it at a discount down the road.

So this patch is not live yet, right? I was checking out the games I got and this one stopped me dead at the uPlay login screen (couldn't remember my password) so maybe it doesn't matter if it takes me a while to figure out what my password is :)

Then 10fps on a Titan due to it being a typical shit Ubi Assassin's Creed PC port.
I'm really curious to see how it runs, to be honest.

AC3 was not a smooth experience out of the gate and AC4 introduces a lot of new visual features that were never used in previous AC titles.

People are way too hasty to label things bad ports. AC has had good ports ever since they killed the DRM on 2, with 3 being a little spotty due to a new improved dx11 engine upgrade. I expect 4 to be a decent one too.

I even see a lot bashing on the cod ports now because of ghosts when those have always been great until the last one.

"A little spotty"? I was getting 15 fps @1080p on a 660ti with everything set to medium when AC3 came out.

The game has to run at least 900p on the Xbox One. It runs native 720p on PS3 and Xbox 360.

I know they've put in some extra things but surely that couldn't limit them back to 720p. I thought the game looked great on Xbox 360 and had no problems with the frame rate as others mentioned.

Maybe they should have just used the exact same recipe with higher resolutions and possible better FPS. Then focus on the better things they have added such as weather and effects for Assassins Creed 5.

Greatness Awaits Patches

This is the one retail PS4 game I bought, so of course they're going to patch it later to make it better. Of course!

Still gonna play in 900p so I can be super impressed when they patch in the rest of the ps.

So they are releasing a patch that puts the PS4 to native 1080p with a new anti aliasing method, and the X1 version just get the new aliasing but no 1080p? Am I reading that right?

Yes, its called a command line.

Hehe

Sounds like they made some pretty huge optimizations at the last minute if they were able to bump the resolution up that much AND add AA. Hopefully this patch comes out quickly though.

Sounds like it. One of these systems is a lot more powerful than the other so it's not really reasonable to expect them to make the exact same improvements to the Bone version.

I dont mind the adjustment of IQ via patches, especially at launch, which must be a very hectic time for developers. The problem here is the deception thats going on. You cant go out and say that your game is 1080p when it isnt, especially if the patch is going to take a while. This is simply a case of overpromising and underdelivering, and thats not ok.

This is expected but that doesn't mean it isn't pretty shitty especially now since most people have either gotten their copies or are getting them shipped to them.

I just put mine in and it's dl-ing a 143mb patch. Is that the 1080p patch?

They've not said it's live yet so I doubt it.

I wonder if this patch drops and if it means the framerate suffers, if they'll be forced by internet outrage to release a patch with an option to switch.

If for some reason this happened, they would just patch it back to 900p

Nice of them to release this information after I have a copy sitting on my desk unsealed. Pls Ubisoft, at least have it released soon

I love this part lmfao
