If this isn't PVP (think a poker style set up) based it will either be incredibly rigged, more so than luck based ones or will bankrupt casinos.

But it'll be an illusion. These games will never reward you on being good, only slightly improve your odds. Just like those stacker games or crane games.
Those stacker games arent really based on skill. They're set to payout only so often. Skill only gets you to the dice roll.

I dont see how this will be that different from fucked up racing games with ridiculous rubber band or op ai like mario kart and other arcades experiences. People are already paying to come in two places before dead last, why not offer a prize for getting 3rd or better. Arcades games need a new lease on life.

Still better (and more exciting for gamers) than pissing money away at a slot machine. I'd play. It would be like the old-school quarter munchers at the arcade, only this time you have the chance of winning your money back.

If it's vs AI expect MK-style input readers and ridiculous SNK-boss damage to win anything decent, and if it's PVP expect a decent chunk of every round's wager to simply go to the house.

Another industry ruined by millennials!!!

...and I think Valve and every mobage developer in existence already has them beat here, and with a model that I think the casinos would be jealous of. 0% payout rates! That and I can't roll for waifus in a casino game.

The part about casinos looking to host e-sports events is already a bit of a thing, with Mandalay Bay playing host for the League Championship Series and Evolution this year, and both were very successful events that sold the venue out. I think that's more of a general angle that any venue operator would be looking into as well, and casinos generally tend to have a lot of meeting/event space.

Seriously surprised casinos haven't done this already... Make it like poker, a buy in, etc and the house takes a cut then just have people play each other. Zero way the casino can lose, and it takes the worries of "bullshit" games out.
Casinos generally don't like games like these (or poker) as their average take per square foot per hour is much lower than other table games and especially slot machines.

Don't forget that casinos for the past 2 decades have now been getting people to have an account through their credit and debit cards. Even if you don't use them they'll use their cameras to identify and tag you if you are a regular. After that point it doesn't matter how skilled you are, the house will curve their games against you.

I was listening to a vegas related podcast a view weeks ago and apparently the industry is worried about the next generation of gamblers who grew up playing video games. They are afraid that the current games won't appeal to them. They are now looking towards hosting and sponsoring esport tournaments as well

Never heard about that. Sounds like something less-than-legal, but what do I know.

I guess I'd try one of these out, if I ever felt like gambling for some reason. Though I'd go in knowing skill is just an illusion.

I remember getting a ferry to Wales a few years back, and was delighted to find they had a mini arcade with a version of Silent Scope in it. Silent Scope, being The Shit, I played for a while, and was super surprised when it spat out some pounds based on my performance. Needless to say I wasted the money on the game but I would have done that anyway!

This is similar to tbe "rake" in poker? So they would use a popular first person shooter and have matches where there is a buy-in, the house gets a cut, and it pays out for a specific number of places, right?

Heh, I was going to bring stacker up.

I can't see the video link at the moment. I'm certain this will be rigged to make you lose regardless of your skill.

Once the machine has taken enough money, then it will pay out. Just like modern poker machines that run on computers.

Oh wow, saw that video now.

...

If you want that addictive dopamine hit from a Skinner box but don't want to burn your cash and have things turn worse for you becoming broke.

Go play some Puzzle Quest 1 or 2 that isn't a free-to-play version for example.
