Atlus Considering Nintendo Switch Ports of Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Etrian Odyssey Games

Atlus released their annual Japanese online consumer survey for 2020 earlier today (which can be read in full here), including several questions to gauge what their consumers and fans would like to see from the company in the future.

With questions ranging from desired remakes to what genres fans would like to see the Persona series explore, one of these questions specifically asks users about the possibility of Nintendo Switch ports of their games.

The final, actual question of the survey is the following:

Q47: If previous Atlus games (games which can be played on other harware, without adding additional elements) were ported to the Nintendo Switch, would you want to play them? Select all of the titles below that you would like to play on the Nintendo Switch.
  1. Port of “Revelations: Persona”
  2. Port of “Persona 2: Innocent Sin / Eternal Punishment”
  3. Port of “Persona 3,” “Persona 3 FES,” and “Persona 3 Portable”
  4. Port of “Persona 4” and “Persona 4 Golden”
  5. Port of “Persona 5” and “Persona 5 Royal”
  6. Port of “Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne”
  7. Port of “Shin Megami Tensei IV”
  8. Port of “Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse”
  9. Port of “Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner” series
  10. Port of “Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers”
  11. Port of “Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha” series
  12. Port of “Etrian Odyssey” series
  13. Port of “13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim”
  14. Port of “Persona Q”
  15. Port of “Catherine: Full Body”
  16. Port of “Odin Sphere Leifthrasir”
  17. Port of “Dragon’s Crown Pro”
  18. I do not want to play any on the Nintendo Switch
This is an indication that Atlus is intently investigating the possibilty of porting their games to the Nintendo Switch, ranging from older Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games to more recent games like Catherine: Full Body and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.

This is the first Atlus survey to ask users which games they would like to see on the Nintendo Switch. In April 2019, Atlus business director Naoto Hiraoka stated that he had no answer to give for the possibility of Persona 5 on a Nintendo console, however he called the Nintendo Switch “a very attractive platform.”

Atlus will be releasing their first published game on the Nintendo Switch with Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers later this month in Japan on February 20, 2020. Shin Megami Tensei V will also be released for the Nintendo Switch in the future.

After all those endless annoying port beggings , I think they would eventually get frustrated and think about it.

But playing them is aways a good thing. Specially Dragons Crown, an incredibly good game. But makes me wonder if they gonna censor more these games on Switch(have to protect the children and grow ass snowflakes).

A reminder: a survey does not in any shape or form imply that they're seriously considering anything and it isn't made to create expectations. It's a massive survey with a ton of options, and if they were actually considering them all, they'd have stuff to do for 200 years.

Digital Devil Saga on Stadia? You can vote for that.

The next Etrian Odyssey on PS5? We got that as well.

It's interesting that they're asking fans (as they do every year) about whatever they may want, but "considering" is definitely not the wording I'd use. Also "Intently investigating?" what does that even mean? Talk about trying to oversell this as something it isn't.

Is Shin Megami Tensei on other plataform than Nintendo?

Dragon's Crown is the best example of hate/love the Nintendo Switch community have... at least in the other place/twitter.

And that's a real story but I don't have a Vita. I have the Switchereeno. Also, bigger screen, it is the Pro version and could, potentially (maybe?) have save sharing function between PS4 and Switch :messenger_persevering: *probably not but one can dream

I wish! Not just for this game, but every game. Especially AAA games, like The Witcher, that I don't want to sacrifice graphics drastically, but would love to play some on the portable.

Yeah, too bad there was never an amazing handheld that played that or the other awesome VanillaWare games.
that ship already sailed a long time ago

If you hate Dragon's Crown, you just hate games in general (hyperbole of course). Such an innocent game that focuses on classic fairy tales and fantasy all tied together by pure sidecrolling gameplay. There is literally nothing to hate about the game, maybe it isn't your style but still, such an inoffensive game.

You misunderstand me.
I have Dragon's Crown on PS3 and get the premium edition box on PS4, aka Dragon's Crown PRO with the class cards.

I was talking about the 'other place' and twitter with are in so much hate with this game, and at the same time want every god damn port to come to Switch.

Understand now the love/hate about Dragon Crown coming to Switch?

No surprise, especially given this.

Got to consider ways to keep Sega happy so they won't start taking more control.

After all those endless annoying port beggings , I think they would eventually get frustrated and think about it.
Less frustration, and more thinking of if that would boost revenue to make Sega happy. Obvious they're probably going to be looking at Persona 5 Scramble sales on Switch vs. PS4 to see how things stack.

I remember a 3DS version of this game, not?

Which SMT ? SMT IV, SMT IV : Apocalypse and Strange Journey Redux are on the 3DS, yes.

SMT III Nocturne, and the Digital Devil Saga games are on the PS2 tho, and have yet to be released on a Nintendo machine.

On topic, Atlus, please port P3 FES, P4G, P5R and Nocturne on the Switch. Why sleeping on such easy money ? It's baffling !

At this point it isn't. Persona has pretty much been a playstation game and the Mainline more niche games have been on Nintendo handhelds for a while now :\

Which is disappointing because Megaten Strange Journey, IV and Apocalypse are 3 of my top ten games easily and they've been regulated to handhelds. I'd buy console ports of each at 60 dollars full price, don't change much just give me higher quality artwork.

Eh, I wouldn't get too excited. People insisted Persona 5 was coming to Switch based off a survey just like this, and all that actually came was a spinoff sequel.

Surveys don't mean too much in terms of things to get excited about.

I think that might be true. But still something to think about, if those endless tweets didn't have any kind of weight on the matter. I mean, they could aways consider something else.

Don't know if 3DS games are more easy to port than PS2 games to Switch, but there is any exclusivity deal in place for PS2 version? My guess was porting the lastest game to Switch.

PS2 games seem a lot easier to port. There's already a few PS2 ports on the Switch (Onimusha, the Devil May Cry trilogy, and RE4 that kinda counts). I dunno if there's any exclusivity deal about it.

Porting 3DS games needs a big boost in resolution, updating many of the game's assets, and of course needs tweaking the gameplay entierely in order to suit the single screen.

Quite frankly, Persona Q or SMT : Strange Journey were made for the dual-screen, with the map being available at all times. Porting them to Switch is not worth it. SMT IV however, why not ?

But they need to finish SMT V first. At leeeast, give us news about it Atlus, I'm starving !

A port of Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha series would be siiiiiick, I never got a chance to complete these on the PS2.

A combo-port of both parts of Persona 2 would be welcome. I played the first game but did not complete the second.

Etrian Odyssey would be a hard pass unless they include a capacitive-touch stylus and a dedicated button to switch to the map.

Sadly, their omission of the two Devil Survivor games (SRPGs) tells me it wasn't a successful spinoff. My dreams for Devil Survivor 3 are dashed against the rocks. Those are probably my two favorite "modern day" SMT games ever, even surpassing the PS1 and PS2 games.

They never officially released P2 Eternal Punishment in the West, did they ? I was so frustated when finishing Innocent Sin, I wanted more ! T_T

That would be fantastic if they finally release both parts as an all-in-one package like FFX/FFX-2 HD Remaster.

They released it in english on the PS1, but the enhanced PSP remake/port remains Japan-only.

It was kind of a bummer to play through P2 Innocent Sin with all the QoL enhancements and then find out the conclusion was a PS1 iso... :lollipop_weary:

Man I wish Atlus could just be like most other big japanese devs that have realized these random platform exclusivities are stupid. Even freaking Yakuza is on Pc and Xbox now but Atlus is still "yeah, no, Persona is on Playstation but the spinoffs are on other platforms but then the mainline SMT series is now on Nintendo but then we'll also publish some games which are just for playstation".

I'd insta buy an HD port of Nocturne on any modern platform

Indeed, my mistake ! I was actually talking about the PSP port.

And I do remember playing P2 : EP on my PSX emulator after completing the first game.

The loss of all the QoL features as you said, the slower pace in combat and the terrible UI just killed my interest in this game.

That's sad because playing as Maya was a nice break from the usual formula. They should replicate that with P6 in my humble opinion.

Dragon's Crown was published by Fatlus but it wasn't made by them. You can play all Persona's on the Vita outside WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY. Makes no sense for a smallish company to ask people about ports when they can't even start/finish their new games.
It is on the Vita.

Do you know who this character is?

Exclusives is kinda dumb in this time and age, let people choose freely what they want to game on.
Publishers are trying all sorts of things to sustain, except the one that hurts consumer the least.
People will always prefer X Y or Z, it's what makes us human, we like different things and so also different platforms, why lock yourself to a single one.

Yes to all of that please!

That's all i'm asking. If you want to play Atlus old games, particularly SMT in a legal way it's painfully complicated, for some of those almost impossible.

But i feel like they keep doing these surveys every year and throw them directly into the trash bin since their strategy never change.
