Name me one American cartoon of recent times that can do cute girls doing cute things better than anime? You can't, thus you are 100% super factually wrong OP.

Oooh. He's got you there, OP.

But... it's still (mostly) hand-drawn. And there's still some great animation out there, even in TV shows.
Not helping!
Don't worry: you weren't supposed to be.
The other series you mentioned were meant for kids. Not quite the same target.
Wat. Er... No. Your example certainly didn't do that.

Shin Chan's alright. Goes for the easy joke a few too many times, but I was watching it every night on AS when It was on and I had cable and was into watching a lot of TV.

narutaru was not an action anime...the anime was completely and utterly different to the manga. Narutaru manga was disturbing to say the least. Narutaru's anime was light-hearted and fun, the manga was dark and disturbing, the anime ends right before the manga heads straight into some pretty sick and twisted stuff.
Anime is expensive, and the average person doesn't buy it. They show the shows late at night and early in the morning. Most shows don't sell a lot. The only people buying that expensive anime DVDs are the otaku.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann? Panty and Stocking with Garter Belt? Little Witch Academia? Tsuritama? Girls Und Panzer? Okami Kodomo? Suisei no Gargantia?.etc
To be saying there's only one good original show these past few years when there plenty of great original shows with different artstyle is quite ignorant of your part.
Call me when an American cartoon comes out with this level of visual craftsmanship:

Or when someone makes a cartoon as willing to grapple with mature themes as From the New World.
Even aimed at younger audiences they were...less than impressive.

Panty and Stocking is TERRIBLE. Talk about a show that is 100% reaching and scrambling for the easiest joke they could possibly make.

I think thats the whole point with Panty and Stocking. Its a perfect reflection of what the US cartoon scene is at times, just cranked up more.

As far as mature themes go, the rest of the boondocks.
"It does, and that's why I stopped watching anime after Cowboy Bebop!"Just because moe anime is very popular right now doesn't mean all other genres of anime are dead forever.
Wat 2: wat harder..../shrug.
It isn't that impressive to me, and it sure as hell isn't impressive as older anime. :/ .
Recent. That's from the 90s.
So in short for you we'll never get another sequel to DOGVILLE because it didn't sell like Die Hard 2?
Plenty of good shows are cancelled for no good reasons, that happens literally everywhere in the world.
Did they cancel Futurama because the american public are idiots who only like Columbo?
Because that's the kind of sense you're making.
There's so much more to Anime than Otaku it's pretty funny you'd even link the 2 that way.
Heck we can also explain the recent downfall of Japanese game makers to Otaku too while we're at it.

Not that there's anything inherently wrong with American cartoons. But they tend to cater to different tastes, so it's kind of silly to compare them like this.
Well, since you didn't specify a time period:
Spawn HBO Series (1997)
Batman The Animated Series
Spicy City
Aeon Flux
Top of my head. It HAS happened, but the sad thing is these were all shows from the 90s. If there was/has been anything relative to them in the years to follow, I can't say I've heard much on it.

The only good US cartoon show I still remember was Batman the animated series.

Boondocks isn't bad, although it's more of a comedy. I was referring more to mature drama with my reference to From the New World.
I hope I'm not spoiling anything in mentioning that episode of Uncle Ruckus's family coming to visit. No disputing that one touched on something that's sadly real for a lot of people.
You should read it instead. That's not even his best work, it is a decent deconstruction of pokemon. Bokurano, a deconstruction of teenage mecha is better. I like Mohiro Kitoh and I mentioned his name far too many times on GAF but anime adaption of his works are usually subpar and far from what I think is the best in anime.
The really good ones are LoGH, Moribito, Master Keaton, Mushishi, Zipang etc. tier
there are tons of good cartoons for sure, but none of them generated as much tears and emotions as Sword Art Online does for toonamigaf and animegaf.

Anime that does not pander to the fan base which funds it does not last long. This is simple economics.

You stopped watching cartoons a LOOOOOOOOOONG time ago then. Do yourself a favor and go watch Archer.
Ugh, Spawn was so good. I'm still amazed no one picked that series up after HBO let it go. I guess the time period didn't allow for too many places for violent cartoons to exist.
Aeon Flux was pretty damn incredible too.

I think I have seen porn of this "girl". Too bad there's no one who could actually pull off such a ruse IRL.
Archer is amusing will give it that. Saw a few eps and it is hilarious. Man I remember that Spawn cartoon show. That shit was cool. Then MTV? Had that short with The Maxx right? Or was it an actual series I dont remember, but those were around the same time frame werent they? Once again that was some cool shit.
Bokurano was amazing.
Oh man, The Maxx and The Head. Those are lost pockets of my childhood right there. I wish I could get that stuff on blu-ray, I'd buy that.

I'm pretty bias against anime, I'll admit it. My main beef with a lot of it is the lack of originality in the animation itself. Everyone has the same triangle shaped face with giant goo goo eyes and tiny mouth. I could show you 10 faces from 10 different animes and they all look the same. The only way to tell them apart is by whatever hairstyle they have. They use too many similar, what I like to call, "anime memes." How many times must I watch a glass of ice do the shifting, melting ice thing? How many times must I watch their face go from normal to completely zany, goofy face with X's or snot coming out of the nose with the same sound effects accentuating them? And some reason a lot of anime have this insistence on putting a young female in some awkward sexually suggestive situation that's quite frankly unsettling to me.
I dunno GAF, please tell me I'm wrong or that I've been watching the wrong anime because all of this just ruins it for me every time. It's like all the anime studios have some handbook or checklist they go down to make sure they have included every single generic anime staple and it just drags their originality down.
Going on to American cartoons, at the very least they seem to all be drastically different from each other in terms of art style and comedy. I haven't seen much of the new crap, but all the big popular series I know of have wildly different styles that resonates much more with me.
That all being said, I've very obviously been away from the anime scene for a long time.
