Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

guess i'm one of the "lucky" ones. While the performance isn't all I'd hope with everything on the highest and gameworks all on i'm getting a steady 30 fps on my 970 at 1440p. No stuttering with a frame drop here and there. Without gameworks and the fps cap off in the batmobile I still get drops to 30. Indoors I'll be fine.

I'm getting relatively stable rates with my 980 at 1080p. Generally hovering between 50 to 60, occasional stuttering in the Batmobile, occasional hitching or frame drops.

Only Gameworks thing enabled is volumetric lighting.

Frequent crashes to desktop, three system crashes.

I think you're the first person I've seen playing from a standard HDD and not having stutter or severe texture streaming issues.

Yeah, my coworker is also playing it (we have very similar computers) and hes not getting any issues either. I dont know whats causing the problems, but it sucks that its so hit or miss. Additionally, the 'wet' textures and other missing features (AO) etc still are not present - super sucks.

Videos up, but I dont know if there is some trick to get it to upload at 60fps. Maybe in time!

60fps will appear later, and hope youtube doesn't screw it up. On my video the standard 1080p version was fine, but all of a sudden it was 1080p/720p60 and they were skipping and stuttering all over the place, which wasn't like the actual video at all.

Wow, that sucks! Yeah it was smooth as butter in my local 3gig file. Hope they dont muck it up. I used Shadowplay to record it- which probably caused minor FPS loss but nothing major. Ill give it a look in a bit!

Indoors I was good but outdoors it just drops too often so I'd rather just have a steady 30 fps then constant frame drops. Not ideal imo but still very playable. I crashed once on my first time booting up the game. I also have the drivers that came out the day before the game officially came out.

Yeah, I'm on the latest drivers. The game causes the display drivers to crash, which seems to be what causes the crashes to desktop.

I've thought about seeing if I can get a stable 30 by enabling all Gameworks features and re- enabling the framerate cap. One reason I stopped trying was that it would crash to desktop with some combination of Gameworks features except volumetric lighting.

Edit: I've re-confirmed that the only setting which doesn't immediately crash the game on my PC is volumetric lighting. Frame cap doesn't have any effect.

Oh man, I was checking back with this thread, and accidentally clicked "Next Page" after the OP instead of "Last Page"

Was confused at the responses for a second, then started laughing my ass off.

Oh, if only we knew then what we know now...

i7 3770k @ 4.2GHz
16GB of RAM
2GB GTX 680 OC

GTX 580 to handle the PhysX stuff.

Hopefully I'll be able to run it at high settings 1080p/60fps.

Ultra at 1440p. Make my GTX 980Ti do work, Rocksteady!

i7 4770k @ 3.50Ghz.
16GB RAM
HD 7970 3GB

I'm hoping to run it all on High at 1200p/30FPS.

i7 4790k
16gb @ 2400
970 tomorrow, 980 ti on Wednesday.

Bring your worst.

My 4790k and titan black are ready

do your worst, bats

i7 5820K hexa-core @ 4.4 GHz
16 GBs DDR4
SLI GTX 970s

I dunno, maybe I should just throw my download code away and buy the PS4 version you guys.

i7 4790k and GTX 970 here.

Hoping to run it at 1080p/60fps on high-ish settings with Gameworks off.

My 980 Ti is curious if it can run this maxed out at 4K.

Profound sadness. I'm going pick up the PS4 copy tomorrow, and hope for the refund from GMG in the coming days. I'm sad this was how I experienced the beginning of it.

The SLI trick where you disable a GPU and dedicate one to PhysX seems to have worked. Using a 680 SLI (2GB) and it's locked to 30. Prior to this, it'd drop from 30 to mid to low 20's. This is with Gameworks off too...everything off. I wonder if I can now try out Gameworks and maintain the 30FPS.

Pretty unhappy, as I've yet to encounter a game I can't run at a stable 60. Even The Witcher is a buttery smoothe High / Medium 60 FPS.

Using your second GPU as dedicated physX, you'll take almost no hit with gameworks stuff on.

EDIT: After about 10 hours of play (struggling to tolerate the graphical mess), i'm now dealing with the crashing issue...

K, i'm done with this game for now. I'll check back later.

That fucking lack of a rain texture on the Batmobile and Cowl...

This entire situation is abhorrent. At first I really thought I could just force myself to look past whatever performance issues were present because it couldn't actually be that bad, right? And then it was.

Seriously, after this and the Borderlands 2 Vita port Iron Galaxy shouldn't be given the opportunity to work on anything again. Ever.

Heres the video. https://youtu.be/kITgjMuC7tw

Seems like youtube is still 'processing' it. Only 360p available yet, weird.

Spec below! Weird, I havent had any issues. Before I unlocked the frame rate I had it at 30 and didnt have any problems, it just was at 30. I played the game up till the ACE Chemical factory at 30fps locked no issues, then I did the ini edit and put it at 60fps with adaptive V-Sync. You see in the video how it drops a bit when the tires are spinning etc.

Intel i7 4770K @4.3ghz
Windows 8.1
16GB System Memory
256 SSD for video recording (Also System)
1TB WD Black (Where game is stored : STEAM Version)
EVGA GTX 970 SSC (Factory OC)
1080p All settings at highest in game.
Played using Xbox PC Controller

Dumb question I know, but what are you using to capture FPS?

Played some more last night and again, like someones video above stays at 30fps solid and no stutter. I have done no changes to ini and Gameworks on apart from fog. I hope they fix the issues and effects and have this enjoyable for everyone.

Is it confirmed that you can do that in this game?

So what was the deal with the E3 2014 demo, which they said was running on PC with the DS4 prompts. Where did that version go?

Vertical slice based on a WIP version made by Rocksteady.

Edit: I'll make a checklist with things off the top of my head.

If any one of these is true, it's a vertical slice.

[1] Is it more than six months from release?
[2] Is the build described as alpha or pre-alpha?
[3] Is there a disclaimer stating this is a work-in-progress build?
[4] Is it surprisingly polished (bug free) for a game not close to release?
[5] Are you seeing a build running on PC with console prompts?
[6] Are the graphics of this demo described as a target render?
[7] Are major features on-rails or not ready to be revealed?

For further reference, see Bioshock Infinite, Watch_Dogs, Rainbow Six: Patriots, Witcher 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, and many others.

I would wager that is why. The game currently uses a lot of system RAM and at 8GB RAM (or less) uses the swap/page file quite a bit at high settings. What what I've seen 16GB seems to be enough to make it a lot smaller an issue, maybe eliminate it but I can't test that obviously.

Just caught up with all this news.

So happy that I have a code from GMG to redeem and a code coming with my new 980ti.

Hmmm, I have the following specs and the only issue I've had (besides missing AO and rain) is one crash in four hours of play:

i5 3570k
16GB ram
1TB hdd (not ssd)
Gtx 970 G1
Windows 7 64
1080p, settings all highest, all on

Can someone please upload the default BmSystemSettings.ini and BmEngine.ini? My game isn't even launching right now so I'd really appreciate it.

Okay it's a rubbish port but my experience hasn't been totally disastrous.

4670k @ 4.4
Overclocked 780
Running from SSD

1080p

I left the 30 lock in place and turned everything up, including game works. It maintains a 30 fps lock but the frame pacing is horrible. Also jaggies galore.

Then I jumped into nvidia inspector and set it to half refresh rate and locked it to 30 in there. I turned off the dynamic fog and particles and bumped resolution to 1440p. I would rather a nicer looking image than resource hungry games works tricks. The small amount of down sampling cleaned it up a bit and the performance is now a buttery smooth 30fps. Driving in the bat mobile results in the occasional drops to 27-28fps but it's nowhere as bad as I expected.

Still the lack of rain on the bat suit and AO sticks out like dogs balls. I hope that's one of the first things put back in.

Is that confirmed to work now? I was told the small update yesterday was supposed to fix the issue of it downloading everything again but I didn't want to have to download the whole game again if they were wrong.

It is fixed, at least for me. I've tried verified the game after it got updated with that small patch and verifying works.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that hasn't encountered many issues as of yet.

Posting my specs and settings in hopes of helping out.
Only had time to play 2-3h yesterday, almost consistent 30fps, game crashed once - reloaded and everything worked fine after that. Minor drops in frames when summoning/driving the batmobile.

PC:
i7 4790K
16GB RAM
GTX 970 G1 Gaming
Installed on HDD (no streaming issues)
Windows 8.1
Microsoft 360 controller for PC

Game settings:
Everything on Normal/High
None of the gameworks features turned on.
No .ini tinkering.

Not sure why people with builds this powerful (I have basically the same setup as you) are not turning on gameworks stuff. It doesn't even have an effect on my performance whether its on or off.

ERMYGERD!
This whole debacle made me appreciate CD Projekt Red even more; even though not flawless, Witcher 3 is a genuine example of how PC games should be. BAK is a shining example of how they shouldn't be.

Ironically both came with my GTX970...

Okay, will try enabling gameworks settings later and post results in this thread. Thanks for the tip! (Just heard that the fog stuff apparently messes up performance for most people).

Yup, that or running the game off an SSD (or at least a large enough page file off an SSD) seems to be a common thread at least when it comes to the stuttering issues.

Again, the bolded is possibly why. The game seems to want upwards of 10GB or at least a full 8GB of RAM at the high settings on top of whatever VRAM you have unless you're running, like a Titan X apparently.

Oh wow. Despite things running fairly smoothly frame-wise until now, I now can't even carry on the game.

I'm at the mission where
you escort Gordon in the Batmobile after Barbara is kidnapped
and the game freezes with a spinning bat-symbol in the bottom right corner of the screen as soon as I drive out of the GCPD. Every single time.

Problem is, the game has auto saved at the start of that sequence, so I now can't even go and do other things instead.

Got a weird crash where I got a list of errors and the top said I was playing a build from June 2014. Couldn't get a screen cap but will keep my eye out for it if it happens again. Anyone else get something similar?

I think people with lower end cards are for the most part reasonably ok with this game, its the higher end suffering. If you were expecting 30fps from your card you can mostly get that sort of performance, its the guys on high end cards that seem to be getting the worst of it, I would imagine 80+ frames to 30fps is bit of an annoyance.

Ok so I bit the bullet and bought it on PS4. Last time I'm ever burnt by buying before researching. I have a 4790 and 980ti by the way and refused to play an inferior version then what is on the XB1 and PS4. Hell a Wii U version would be better then the garbage PC port.

Stop with these kind of rumors. If it was that easy WB didn't have to pull these meassures. Iron Galaxy probably also didn't work 6 month+ at polishing. This is clearly a huge fuck-up that takes some time to fix.

Just so you know, people hat something about 2013 intheir error messages. It's probably just remnants.

To be honest, except the messed up performance/stability of the pc build, the differences aren't that big (rain shader, rain quantity, missing ao, some textures and missing or replaced objects). Still i can totally understand why people are pissed about it, i do enjoy the game on pc though.

Quoting myself from the other thread.
If you ask me that's dangerous.

What they see in the end is mass refund on PC and increased console sales which in the end probably makes them think scrapping PC is ok as it's not worth it.

If they F-ed me that badly if just not reward them buy buying it again.

No, not necessarily. Take the money from bad PC ports and give it good PC ports.
