Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

On the 360:

- remove useless battlelog button. I mean wtf.
- needs Bad Company 1 vehicle controls. fuck that halo crap and the veteran one ist just as bad.
- MGs (at least the first one that you get) seem to have less recoil.

Nah, your RAM is fine. It is just because it is in beta. I have the same stuff (although my PC has close to the same specs).

yeah, you're probably right about the un-optimizations in the beta. But looking at my task manager, BF4 seems to eat my system ram quite fast. I had to close quite a few browser windows to free up some memory. I did upgrade to the latest Nvidia driver though, and gave that a try. It did make some minor differences to my game performance.

I don't get how leaning works.

You lean out slightly when you're close enough to corners and such, pressing left trigger edges you out further while aiming down sights.

Edit: You don't lean out lol Your gun tilts and prompts you to press LT which then has your character lean while aiming

Trajectory line is to aide other players. Makes it easier for them to spot snipers hiding in the sides of the map. I only wish the vapor trail was a little less thick so you can use it to gauge bullet drop in its current state its far too thick.

Exactly.

I don't know that the aid is necessary though. Were snipers too hard to spot in Battlefield 3?

Cool, got it figured out. Thanks!

Also, I was just defending the skyscraper as it got taken down. Man, what a terrifying feeling.

I would pay money to be able to put spotting back on the Back button on my 360 controller (and I imagine Select on the PS3 (or whatever that second button is))... Honestly... Battlelog doesnt need to be in the middle of my match... and Right Bumper is where fire used to be for my tanks... Ive gotten myself killed so many times by forgetting that fire is swapped to LB under this ridiculous control scheme.

I hated having the spot button as 'Back' on the 360 controller. You couldn't aim and spot at the same time.

um where? I can only turn off the ingame info on the top right corner, but I can't change the back button.
Options > Gameplay > Battlelog In-Game

Edit : Just won a game of Conquest with only three tickets left on our team. Feels good.

Really? Thats odd... never gave me any issues... Aiming was done with the right stick, and spotting was done with the left thumb. Moving was a bit hard, but managable... but aiming wasnt difficult at all.

Still... I can see the issue... so just give me the option so both parties are happy.

yeah I've done that. Back button is still battlelog, it just won't show in the top right corner. edit: I'm an idiot. you're right but you still can't change the control layout. the back button is now useless.

Anyway more important than that is fixing the vehicle controls. They're seriously fucked. They need to bring back the BC1 controls (which they also had in BC2 and BF3).

Ok, I'm getting confused. Its been a while. I meant moving. You cant move while spotting.

Agree that having both options would be nice, but console control schemes are notorious for not having lots of options. Still, I think that's a relatively small change that you'd get used to quite fast. I remember my friend always switched the knife and crouch buttons and when we'd be passing the controller back and forth, it'd mess me up for a little bit, then I'd get used to it.

The vehicle controls, on the other hand, sound like a much more drastic changeup.

Biggest issue is the vehicle controls on consoles. Really frustrating. Please change it back DICE.

Also not enough ammo around. I run out of ammo every time. When someone dies, kits disappear almost instantly.

Man im kinda tired of this already.
I was so excited for a map like this and it turns out horrible. what a boring empty map.
needs the boats and stuff.

Using the little bird is the only thing im enjoying currently(after I messed with the controls for 10 minutes)

There are boats.

Tons of vehicles if I remember correctly.

3 mbt per side, 1 ifv on each side, 2 helicopters per side, and various transports .

At times yes they were.

I like the idea of a bullet trail I see they also lowered the amount of scope glare so it sorta balances itself out.

I guess I feel the opposite. I would prefer the scope glare to the trail. At least the glare doesn't make it harder for the sniper to measure his shot.

Definitely some good improvements from previous BF3.

1 Love the vertical heights to the game brings a whole new perspective to the game play (tactical)
2 Map size is perfect, doesn't feel boring moving from A to B
3 Controls are much tighter and love the new lean in the game
4 The player menu is much more user friendly and conviniant when in a squad
5 Graphics look brilliant

There is stuttering in the game ( but don't feel it's your rig thats letting you down) as it is a BETA so all these niggles should hopefully be ironed out by the time it gets released.

Overall impressed with game, also happy I can play it on ultra settings

GeForce GTX 670
8 GB RAM
Intel i5 3570K 3.40GHz
Samsung Monitor 1920 x 1080

I see you never played hardcore in BF3.

Well aware that it's present in hardcore but, like every hardcore mode shoehorned in to FPSs, it doesn't work very well in BF3. The balancing is off and I don't like a majority of the changes made to the UI. If I want to play hardcore I'll go play ARMA where the game designed around the lethal weapons.

Played some games with Killer and had alot fun. Here some pics.

ATM I'm ways and ways less competitive than in BF3, I have to catch all the changes, but my overall feelings are quite optimistic: the game seems to have the potential to be a better BF.

yeah i had a lot of fun. the last few matches were intense lol. Cool pics too!

Playing on PS3, I'm having the same issue with this beta as I did with BF3 until Dice finally fixed it a year later since its release; input lag.

At 720p the controls feel sluggish and occasionally unresponsive. Lowering the resolution to 576p probably has an influence on the game's performance, because the controls are noticeably more responsive. I'm also worried about the seemingly increased performance hit on the console as compared to BF3; I had it freeze on me a couple of times as the building collapsed, or when it was about to.
Sure, "it's a beta", but it's really not. I'm concerned if they don't at least fix the input lag before release, the community will still have shit for brains like last time, thinking that the guns have weighty controls and that others players need to ''git gud'', resulting with Dice doing nothing about it, or having it really low on their priority list.

Im guessing this is the case on the PC? On the consoles, we only have 1 MBT, 2 transports and 1 scout chopper per side. No attack choppers, no IFV and no boats :(

There is a possibility to drop from 720p to 576p on PS3? There is no such option on 360, at least couldn't find one?

Oh Battlefield moments, you slay me. Saw a US MRAP barreling towards me so I fired a rocket that apparently killed the driver and did no damage to the vehicle, so I stole it. I raced over to C where I saw a MBT so I crashed the MRAP into the back while jumping out, put a rocket into its back then killed a engi repairing, then danced around the MRAP for 10 more seconds putting rockets into the tank who had no idea where I was before taking it out and finally getting shot.

On Ps3 you can change the output resolution on the XMB's display settings (I opted out the HD range). I don't own a 360, so I don't know, but I'd imagine it's somewhere in the console settings.

I've heard this a couple times. What do you mean by that?

The betas that Dice does with the BF games are always too close to release, with too little time to fix things meaningfully. I'm also taking into account Dice's trackrecord of fixing issues, on PS3 at least, which I haven't been impressed by since BF3. The input lag thing really grated on my nerves, and the pessimist in me assumes that it probably will again if I choose to buy BF4.

Played the recon yesterday. I like that he has the C4 now and the laser designator. Managed to blow up several tanks with the c4. The sound design is realy great again.

Windows might show that, but seriously, 8GB are the recommended specs and even with the 64 bit executable you should have plenty. It would be absurd if it was not enough so just wait for the final release.

I am assuming PC.

Ugh this makes me wan to rebuild a new PC, the xbox 360 version feels lacking for some strange reason. I was able to play BF3 on the xbox 360 but Bf4....
Im sure the PS4 version etc, will be great but man
not an impressive demo for current gen, BF3's was much better(can't believe im saying that when it only had Metro).

I'd agree with that.

Well if you want to get super technical it is muffled in real life too due to electronic ear protection. This also explains why you are not swathed in engine noise when you are inside tanks.

Gun audio and fight audio in this game is designed specifically to give a good sense of where you are getting shot from.

For a decent understanding of what stuff sounds like from a distance IRL just watch an ARMA 3 video they do that audio spot on.

I am impressed with the audio. Its one of those things they just keep iterating on and its become such a core part of the experience that when other games lack it you really notice.

I'm sure this has been answered already, but is the XP carrying over to release?

It was not carried over on PC for BF3. It looks like you start out with a bunch of free xp unlocks as most guns have slots filled already with RDS and foregrips.

Now I just need to get another screen to plug my Raspberry Pi into to so I can show the map without taxing my GPU's any more. You apparently need to have something pretty up to date on android and it has to be able to take pictures and video so my 1st gen Nexus 7 is out of the running:( I am pretty sure the Rpi can handle it as the Mumble server only uses 3% CPU in the worst case.

I suspend enough disbelief while playing Battlefield, I think I could do without electronic ear protection.

It just takes some getting used to, but once you do it's a vast improvement on back/select IMO, although once in commorose the options seem a little "twitchy".

They will need to release a new build. You can't have this be the last thing people play before the game comes out and expect them to buy the final game at launch.

So I have updated to beta drivers and now I can't activate Aero on Windows 7

Anyone have an idea how to activate it back?

EDIT: nvm, rebooting did the trick.

It runs ok on my system. It defaulted to a mix of Ultra and mostly High. I need to try the beta drivers though cause it seems to run great for a while then like shit. Anyone have a link to the beta Nvidia drivers?

They do tons of fixes. I don't know how bad the input lag thing on the PS3 was, but I think you're taking that and forgetting all the other major changes changes they made from beta to release with BF3.

Its most certainly a beta.
