Battlefield 4 feels like a new game now

I haven't touched my BF4 Premium on PC in months. Well, I did update to the recent expansion pack and then still didn't play it. :/

The server updates helped a lot...it still got some issues but the game itself is a ton of fun. I just crossed the 100 hour mark, which I haven't done since Modern Warfare. It's not perfect, but it's a great game. There's a pretty active group of gaffers on ps4 as well.

Anyone jumping back in (or for the first time) add me on psn: moneyman232

I dunno, for many months i was always defendign this game, saying that since they did the Decemebr update i never had any crashes or lag. I guess i was lucky. But now the last coupel times I have played, and escieally since they updated the servers. i get terrible lag and rubberbanding. Its really infuraiting playing all of a sudden.

Even when I played a few times on the improved test server I would get really bad rubberbanding, but not when I played on regular servers. But now I get it on all servers.

Good to hear.
Wish I still cared.

-EDIT-
The final straw for me was the Titan mode for Naval Strike. Unplayable from the beginning and no acknowledgement from DICE.

Play CTE on PC if you can. ITs night and day if your good at FPS in what you can pull off and how smooth the game feels.

I've been playing it since the PS4 launch. Other than not being able to connect to a game for a few days I never really had that many issues.

I'm guessing they fixed the tick rate on the servers?

It's not like Battlefield 4 has a high skill ceiling.

ADS, low TTK, no recoil.

The game runs fine now, sure. But its issues go beyond the technical.

Im the just about as big as a Battlefield fan as you can get, been playing since the 1942 PC demo its been my go to MP franchise for a decade now, and something just doesnt sit right with me about BF4's gunplay and vehicles. The gunplay is just too dumbed down from 3 - recoil and time to kill in particular. The skill factor has taken a nose dive here. Its more of a "hold down the trigger and spray" kinda game rather than skillfully timed bursts win. I dislike this. I heard a new gunplay designer stepped in for BF4 and it shows. The depth has taken a hit.

As for the vehicles, the jets are great, the choppers are ok, but the tanks in particular are weak as shit. In BF2 (and even BF3) tanks were to be feared - now since everyone and their mother has C4 - you often find vehicles running away from infantry like a three stooges episode or something. Its a joke. Tanks need to have more health and they need to have some sense of weight again. They bounce and slide around the map like a go cart. DICE has definitely taken a major step back with their tank gameplay.

I still have fun playing BF4 and all but it doesnt have the hook of a really classic battlefield. It feels off. I think Battlefield needs to be slower pace again like BF2. Its just too fast and crazy anymore - and the C4 nonsense has to stop. I actually call this game Battlefield C4.

It is way better but not enough IMO. The tickrate set at 10 makes getting kills more of a gamble and less of having to do with being skillful.

I must be playing some magical version of the game too, since I haven't seen any major issues (PS4) since late March/early April.
LegacyZero said they're having zero issues. I find that hard to believe! The game is wayyyy better, but there's still persistent bugs. I'd agree that there's no major problems anymore, but even that statement reflects how much I've lowered my own standards. Not having sound for the first minute of each match would be unacceptable in any other game.

Started to play it again this week after two months. Yup, definitely feels like a new game. Every other kill used to end up both me and the enemy dying at the same time and that was complete bullshit...but no more.

Nice to see the game is good for you op, I'm still having slight issues with the game myself though ( lag has become an issue for me just recently, maybe because of server degradation?)
I remember reading an article from kotaku about BF4 getting fixed.

Can't believe it was so low to begin with and it took so long to finally update it to CoD levels.

I'll reserve judgement til I play bf4 with the tickrate changed myself, because despite having a tickrate of 30, recent CoD games have been among the laggiest games I have played, and really the only games I've had lag issues with in the fps genre( and I've played a shitload of shooters the past 6 or 7 years).

Fair enough but comparing how much smoother it is now compared to launch IMHO it does feel like a different game. Sorry to hear you're still having problems and I'm definitely not saying it's perfect. Believe me, I sympathize... Check my post history, you'll see no shortage of posts where I'm blasting the fuck out of EA & DICE over BF4.

It's definitetly way better now; the way it should've launched. The only problem is Firmware 1.70 which sometimes causes my PS4 to lock up when I try to launch the game and also the DS4's vibration which doesn't work unless you turn it off and back on again. I hope Sony fixes this shit soon.

Anyone know when the CTE changes will go into effect? I hear you have to download a new client just to play on the CTE severs

Been playing steadily since launch and it has gotten better but still has shitty glitches here and there otherwise conquest is a lot more fun to play without the rubber banding.

Add me on PSN if anyone is down for a couple games: SGKazo

EA should top off these improvements by announcing a drastic drop in price for Premium at E3. That would give BF4 a new lease on life.

Believe me, I said and felt worse after the third time losing my save.

I have no patience for a game that seems almost guaranteed to wipe your progress. That's a violation of a fundamental gaming commandment, and no game can consider itself to be anything but broken while its plagued with those issues.

Fun game, yes, but a broken one. Even to this day.

Holy fucking shit, they actually updated the tick rate?

NO. Only on CTE/PC "test environment." LIVE/every platform hasn't changed from the 10Hz tickrate.

And currently they're still testing it because it brings it's own set of problems (see: suppression, weapon balance, distance shooting, pings/etc) instead of solving the "netcode." It's a bandaid for a more serious issue: DICE didn't code their netcode well.

I was under the impression from their interviews that changing it is impossible because it being what it is would have been deeply hard coded to everything

I'd quote what the CTE says but I'm fuzzy on the new and improved TOS. The short and paraphrased answer is: The "new tickrate" they're testing is the MAXIMUM POSSIBLE FOR FROSTBITE 3 (at the moment and in BF4's case). It's hard-coded limit to the engine. That's why the CTE/testers in that "beta" are hemming and hawwing about the new tickrate and if it's possible DICE may increase it past the new limit but that won't be in BF4's life-time if ever coming to BF4.

The old 360BFGAF crowd are actually quite dominant on the PS4.
It's the old PS3GAF usuals that's nowhere to be found now.

quite sad.

You know where I am. You know how to find me. You just simply have to light the PC signal and come running into the open arms of free online play. Let me know when you do.

I did, I just didn't want to come off as too incendiary because I really didn't mean any offense lol.

NO, i just lost my save file yesterday :( i was was almost at the end.

I recently re-rented the game from Gamefly and had to start the campaign over because my save was deleted.

It's crazy how something as game breaking as that still hasn't been fixed!

EDIT: I should clarify my weapon unlocks were still there. Just no campaign progress.

It feels like an actual game now. Up until a few weeks ago it felt like a massive waste of $60. I'll be waiting 3 or 4 months to check out dice's next game

Friend couldn't find a match that wouldn't crash halfway through for 6+ months despite trying weeklyish.

I don't think I can honestly believe any positive impression of that game at this point.

I only got it, I dunno, a month ago, and I agree, it's a fantastic game, and I'm enjoying it more on PS4 than I did on PC. It's just really good fun.

And it's an amazing franchise, generally. There are times when two sides are fighting over a flag or two, and at the end when a winner emerges and the front moves on to somewhere else, and the smoke and degree is all that remains, it really feels like the end of a Band of Brothers episode, with you just exhausted, your heart rate finally falling and you catch a small breather whilst looking at the exploded cars and destroyed buildings around you. There aren't many games that allow you to really get into the mood of peril given how simple and quick it is to respawn.

Haha, no problem It's all good!
Seriously, I hope BF improves for ya. Maybe it's just taking time for the new servers to be available. I know when they rolled them out it was another two weeks or so before*I saw some of the improvement others on GAF were reporting.

Might beel better than it did when you last played but the patch that fixes the netcode problem unfortunately isn't out yet.

I played 2 TDM matches earlier and yea, it certainly feels better now. Not sure if I'll get back into it though, since Titanfall is my go to now whenever I need my FPS fix.

I know this is not acceptable, but they way I dealt with the campaign save bug (PS4) was to just save my progress to a USB every time I was done playing the campaign. I started doing this after I had to restart it for the 3rd time. After doing this I was finally able to get the 3 gun unlocks for MP.

In terms of lag and stabilty, yeah, it's better.

But there's lots of bugs that persist, including and specially the one that KEEPS ERASING MY GODDAMN CAMPAIGN PROGRESS. Fuck!

I just started playing for the first time in a couple of months on the One, and I'm having a blast!

How many map packs are out? Which ones do i NEED?
