Battlefield 4 feels like a new game now

I just started playing for the first time in a couple of months on the One, and I'm having a blast!

How many map packs are out? Which ones do i NEED?

There's currently 3 map packs out.

China Rising - Very big maps, a lot of objectives. I like it a lot, specially Silk Road.
Second Assault - A compilation of some of the more popular maps in BF3.
Naval Strike - Lots of water, lots of islands, lots of fun!

Coming soon: Dragon's Teeth - Urban warfare based map pack.

I honestly don't know what to recommend since many people have different opinions, but I think Naval Strike has been well received by most people.

LegacyZero said they're having zero issues. I find that hard to believe! The game is wayyyy better, but there's still persistent bugs. I'd agree that there's no major problems anymore, but even that statement reflects how much I've lowered my own standards. Not having sound for the first minute of each match would be unacceptable in any other game.

The sound bug usually only goes for about 20 seconds for me. And it's mostly vehicle noises, like a chopper spinning up.

All of them have been great so far, even the BF3 throwback maps. Especially Karkand.

Well, the issue with China Rising is that the maps are unfinished (they were all supposed to have "levolution") and the layout on some/all of them is pretty bad.

Silk Road for example has the US side completely fucked because not only do they have less flags on their side, but they are against the Chinese that have the higher ground meaning they keep sniping the shit out of your team from the other side of the map with tanks and so on. The sandstorm levolution that was planned for it would have circumvented that issue by making it harder for the Chinese to snipe from afar and above but no DICE™

Guilin Peaks and Altai Range also have bad map layouts as well. Altai is just boring as fuck and has way too many Mobile Anti Air vehicles, and Guilin Peaks is basically being in a game of constant zerg rush with both teams circling around the map 90% of the time, although I suppose some people enjoy that.

Dragon Pass has too many hitbox issues (missiles going through mountains, metric fuckton of invisible walls and so on), and it also has the same issue that Altai Range has which is too damn many Mobile Anti Air vehicles.

The Second Assault maps are pretty good in general except for that piece of shit Operation Metro. why.jpeg

Naval Strike is probably the best map pack at the moment IMHO, because not only is it not as half assed as China Rising, they are new maps instead of rehashes a la Second Assault.

The sound bug usually only goes for about 20 seconds for me. And it's mostly vehicle noises, like a chopper spinning up.

Karkand isn't in Second Assault, man. The worst map in any modern Battlefield game was put in the Second Assault DLC so I guess that was more popular instead of it. Who wants good maps when we can have meat grinders to make montages with. Yes I am still bitter about that. =(

I'm guessing they fixed the tick rate on the servers?

It's not like Battlefield 4 has a high skill ceiling.

ADS, low TTK, no recoil.
Umm BF4 Does a have a pretty decent skill ceiling when you add up all the stuff you should be good at to be a decent player. And the in CTE you basically have to relearn Recoil Control(BF4 DOES HAVE RECOIL) because the higher tick rate makes it possible to mange it better.

BF having a low skill cap... Laugh at this because of how many choppers a day I see crash from pretty good foot solders that think choppers are easy to control kill streaks instead of very power assets for your team.

So that guy on reddit a few months back who claimed to be a DICE engineer saying the real issue isn't the game or code but the servers just couldn't handle all the physics calculations (having to do all that destruction from 64 players and it was an issue of how many calculations that needed to be done and the speed at which the servers were...

Sounds like that guy was actually right.

Yeah ever since they fixed the rubber banding I have been happy. You can finally play the game now. I still will not purchase anything Dice makes until I see gaf reactions.

Tempted to rebuy but waiting for a complete collection , lost my single save about 5 times in a row and gave up so tempted to retry multi now that it is running smoother.

I really like BF4 and the engine is pretty nice for the new consoles at least as i have played it on PS4 as well. On my PC it runs butter smooth maxed out and mantle really gave me a 15-20fps boost and i am running a 3770k and 7970

It's a shame that campaign saves are still an issue. I've become an expert at the snow gondola level after playing it 3 or 4 times and finally gave up. I played some conquest on the Xbone the other day and there was still some rubber banding in the conquest I played. Vastly improved, but still there.

I'm not too sure when it was added since I haven't played a lot lately, but I was having some issues with the quickmatch squad beta feature. I'm really hoping that gets ironed out; worked great in BF3. 4 seeems to be dead set on putting my party members on opposite teams.

Edit:

Some of the most annoying bugs have been fixed, but there are still mobile AA's which are way too overpowered. Just delete them, dice. We still have stingers, stationary AA in spawn and air vehicles to fight against enemy air vehicles...

Or give back the gunner flares or at least below radar...

I get that. Choppers are a death trap in Battlefield 4. I used to be able to stay alive in a chopper in BF3 for ages even after they took out the gunner flairs. I think DICE may have nerfed them a bit just out of sheer balance issues. I could get on some pretty ridiculous streaks while flying a chopper in 3. I suppose it's because there are more people playing as actual soldiers, and it ruins the game when two people are dominating a map. I still think they should get rid of the need for the rotor stabilizer perk though to make it a little bit more manageable when you have mobile AA, soldier AA, and other aircraft to worry about. If you don't have it you are more or less just waiting for the next lock-on anyway.

I'm slowly getting into BF4 again having become disillusioned with the game after initial release and some of the bug issues.

As of late though the game is a lot more stable and is a vast improvement on what was originally released.

Everything except the new maps is perfect. Every time I start a game with Naval Strikes maps it is missing half the geometry and takes more than 30 seconds for the map to show up.

Ps4 version.

Yep, still have this problem on PS4.

But the servers have been cleaned right up.

Wow, that is an insane difference between players on Xbox One and PS4...
If it is a time when mostly Europeans are playing the difference is quite understandable. The damn Xbox One isn't even out in all the places in here yet. Of course including Finland...

I am also still kinda thinking between Xbox One and PS4 to be honest. Most of my friends went with Xbox.

Wonder if the PS3 version is still bad? BF4 is the first game I've returned straight away due to every second match resulting in a hardlock. Switch off console, load game, join match, next round hardlock. Rince and repeat every time (for me anyways). For the record I had a 1st gen Slim 120gb console with a 7800rpm 500gb hdd.

It's almost as if it was launched 4-6 months too soon or something.

It would've been to make the most of limited titles at launch therefore increasing sales.

the ps3 version still hardlock sometimes. a lot in op locker.

I started playing about a month ago and I love it. The best game I've played on my PS4 by far. I haven't played a BF game this much since 1942 + the expansions but I'm pretty much a fan on the series now. I love the scale and the sandbox appeal, so much fun.

After seeing the positive remarks in the thread, I fired up my game on the PS4.

I tried to see if my old campaign saves are back up, still no go. I played through half the campaign twice and both times with corrupted saves. Not willing to go for a third time. I actually took my sweet time both the times trying to complete all the challenges and going for the highest points on each mission. I was just severely disappointed when those saves no longer exists after all that time I invested in the game. Never has a AAA game let me down so much in the last few years.

Fuck you Dice.

Plays single player on a game built around Multiplayer.... gosh damn it they just should go back to mulitplayer online BF.

What are you rambling about? Your comments are not a valid excuse for the single player issues so get that shit outta here. He paid for the game to play the single player and the bare minimum expectation is that it should work. They advertised the single player portion of this game extensively so if it doesn't work, he has a right to complain. It doesn't matter if the game's bread and butter is MP but there are numerous people who bought the game solely for its single player as we often see with COD as well. The fact that it hasn't still been fixed is embarrassing. How are you having save issues on a AAA game? This isn't 1999 and even then, these issues were rare.

If you know the history of BF what they put MOST of there effort into is MULITPLAYER. Complaining about Singleplayer not working when its not even the first thing that is considered on BF4 not working is stupid. You buy BF4 for mulitplayer if you don't then your navie and have not done your homework on the franchise. As much as EA calls is a their anti COD franchise its really does only one thing well and that's being a Combined arms mulitplayer FPS. Thinking its anything else is stupid.

smh

The save bug is inexcusable. End of story.

That said, duking it out with bots in classic Bf > BF4's boring, half-assed SP campaign.

I am bored of Battlefield 4. Put in about 150 hours on the PS4 version and 10 hours on the PC version.

Rush mode sucked, the maps were designed for conquest large. Overall the game was too similar to BF3. I hope the next BF game is drastically different.

Except that Battlefield 4 actually ties in some MP unlocks through the Single Player campaign. That's beside the point, some people actually play the SP campaign to get familiar with the game's mechanics. Some people still like campaigns (as lackluster as they might be) or actually like to treat the SP campaign as some sort of boot camp. This far out after launch, there's no excuse for this major bug to still be in.

Yeah, I know but the focus and the whining has been HUGE on the multplayer side. Sorry but I whats left of DICE that is on BF4 is focused 100% on fixing the Netcode in PC CTE then gettting it out everyone else. ITs a muliplayer game and the community is focused around that Single player in BF3 and BF4 WAS afterthought. People still think single player is going to get fix really don't know DICE or their history. IF they fix anything its Multiplayer and thats about it.

You're going to do well here.

I only buy it for multiplayer but I wanted to get the plat and multiplayer unlocks and lost my save twice. There is no excuse for that. If they put something in that is broken then it's fair to complain about it, whether it's top priority or not is not the point. And it's not like the single player is some small short little side game. Tons of work went in to it and tons of money was spent making it.

Unfortunately, that ain't the case with BF games lately. You barely touch vehicles in the SP, and even if you do, its only the ground variety. The test range is a better place to get familiar with the controls and mechanics than the entire SP campaign. The SP does everything in its power to keep you from going off the rails while the MP not only encourages it, but demands it.

It played well for me when I rented and played it a few weeks back. It plays a lot better than it did at launch. I actually got a few games in and enjoyed it thoroughly. For me, it still does not play as it should. Playing w/friends still sucks.and those audio issues at the beginning of matches still irks me. Hope they think before they actually release a game next time.
I AM LOOKING AT YOU EA!!! 0_o

you're right, I have not touched the BF 4 campaign because of the bug, but this was apparent in the BF 3 campaign where the fighter jet sequences were all on rails. It's still a good starting point though if you want to get familiar with controls, the guns, shooting mechanics (of course aim assist must be turned off). That's why I played BF 3's campaign, as bad as it was. I just didn't feel comfortable enough jumping in to MP immediately.

I've heard about the saved bug, but I've never experienced it (neither have my friends). I hadn't played BF4 for 3-4 months, and my saves were still working fine, after I got the game back last week.

My issues pertained only to MP, with elasticity, lag and server crashes.

Wasted money IMO and all of the online community would agree. If there was one change I would do to BF4 and Titanfall is give TF the money for the campaign that it need and take out the singleplayer from BF4. Its pointless and wasted time on game franchise that was BULIT on mulitplayer not single like COD or other shooters.

What netcode fix?

On a side note has the PC settings Ultra bug been fixed or is it still just pick whatever and hope for the best?

The netcode issue was in part related to how underperforming the servers were. Now that the specs on the server code and servers themselves are a lot stronger the netcode seems much stronger.

Why they spec'ed the minimum hardware so low is beyond me.

Wait, money. Oh yea.

You should stop posting now. What a load of rubbish especially since there are no stats to support your claim. It's just as stupid as the people who claimed that Cod was only purchased for the multiplayer.

Yeah it is definitely a whole different game than when it was first released.

I can't wait for the changes from the CTE to come to the actual game.. Less screen shake and higher tickrate.. yes please

What is this shit? People who complain about the single player not working are stupid now? They paid money for the game. They got a broken product. And you're blaming them for being unhappy? God damn.

Hopefully the new expansion is good.. I see great things with more urbanized maps.. Still could improve that bullet detection though!! But it has improved lately.. Maybe I'll actually start firing up the PC version now..

If you want a drastically different game you should just play something else.

I'm hoping this years spin off is something like Bad Company. It would be cool if it was focused on rush instead of Conquest for a change.

Yeah I miss the fast paced rush of BF BC 2.. Granted some of the maps were straight bottlenecks and sucked in conquest.. Wish they had more hybrid maps that could deliver both the mass scale of PC BF conquest and BF BC 2 Team Rush,,

I tried it out when the new servers were being rolled out and I guess I had a few games on the old servers that hadn't switched yet since it was still a complete joke. I enjoyed the game when it did work though, it's just a shame it's taken so long to fix it that now my interest in going back to it has pretty much gone, even more so now the community has been split with all the DLC they've pushed out.

Amazing the SP bug is still in there though, I gave up on it for a while because it kept deleting my save data, in the end I had a spare day where I decided to just play through it in one sitting.

I just started playing for the first time in a couple of months on the One, and I'm having a blast!

I didn't like China Rising that much. Naval Strike is fun but if you hate water, well, you're out of luck.

Second Assault has been my fave so far. Throwback maps with Levolution and new BF4 weapons is awesome.

Has the netcode fix hit the PS4 yet? That was a way bigger problem than the rubber banding.

From what I've played so far, yeah. It's fixed. I haven't experienced rubber-banding for a while, too.

Seems like it. I mean, devs don't intentionally lie or try to BS their way out. And it's not like there's anyone there that purposely sets out to make a crappy experience. :)

Most of the "it's fixed" comments pertain to MP and not SP. Inexcusable that it's still like that up to now, though.

Overall, happy with BF4 at its state now. Still hate that the screen shake is just too much, and the fact that asshats glitch into the roof in Op Metro. Logged in over 300 hours now into it, I think.
