Battlefield 4 skipping Wii U

If Nintendo wanted ports of next gen games then they should have made a console powerful enough to get ports of next gen games.

This would solve the technical problem. However, the other problem boils down to core game sales. It's why third-parties - especially in the west - have not taken Nintendo platforms seriously. It's why a Nintendo platform won't be the lead platform for their projects too.

Nintendo needs EA, Kojima Productions, Atlus, SquareEnix, Valve, Activision...

It is ridiculous and looks like obviously they deserve it. You cannot expect all the world to go after your ideas, specially when the other platforms have already the audience they are targeting and better online platforms.

well yes

but EA refuses to lay any groundwork for Wii U. why doesn't wii u have a future for EA?

and no, shitty late mass effect 3 port doesn't count

it seems like all the third parties are saying fuck it and bailing after only 4 months.

Because it's got absolutely no consumer excitement. There's no buzz, no aspiration to own one, no software that justifies the concept behind it.

EA are looking forward to new systems with magnitudes more power and Nintendo are asking them to keep looking back whilst offering no justification to do so.

I think some are underestimating on how big of a failure the WiiU is becoming.

The only reason I still have mine is for the eventual Nintendo games which I won't be able to get anywhere else. Apart from literally ten minutes on SNES F-Zero the other week, I haven't touched the sodding thing since boxing day.

I wish I hadn't got it on release, but ah well. Trading it in is worthless too as the prices have plummeted for trades since Xmas.

Not even BF4?

I mean, my God. If WiiU wasn't already fucked with 3rd party games at this point, it is triple fucked with the coming of the PS4 and 720.

Good luck Nintendo. You're going to need it.

Nintendo is teaming up with Atlus for Fire Emblem X Shin Megami. Of course, Nintendo is the publisher. Naturally, getting third-parties to willingly publish games on Wii U is gonna be the hard part.

Wasn't planning on getting it for Wii U anyways, but my god Nintendo is screwed.
What is Nintendo thinking releasing a console and still after 6 months there ain't nothing to play.

Niiiiiceeeeee

Would that really have done any good? It seems like most devs don't even want to port their PS3/360 versions to the Wii U.

Where is the future in that? Development of games for PS3 and 360 is going to quickly dry up with the transition to next gen platforms. Especially so with the long console cycle of the PS3 and 360. So they port over the current gen version for what purpose? There isnt going to be a BF5 on the 360 or PS3 to port over to the WiiU and the only reason PS3 and 360 are getting ports is because of their massive current install base.

It likely isn't due to the Wii-U not being powerful enough, as it's stronger than both the PS3 and 360. It's more to do with the reason he suggested, which is not wanting to stretch the team too thin, and also the fact that Nintendo's positioning and apparent mindshare for games like this just won't be seen as in nearly the same favorable place as the xbox and playstation brands.

It isn't because the Wii-U is too weak. Nintendo's position just isn't as strong as they need it to be, and so that automatically makes the Wii-U a lesser priority.

bf4 on a nintendo console doesn't seem right, anyways. Just as blops2 didnt.

Nintendo software is some of the best in the world. The reason why people buy a nintendo console. Nintendo is unique, not just an hd twin.

I'm still not getting BF4 for PS4 or PC. Give me fucking Bad Company 3 instead of this incredibly generic, gritty war shooter campaign bullshit.

3rd parties: "Nintendo, increase the sales of your console 100% completely by yourself with absolutely no help from us. THEN we'll start releasing games for it."

Wii U having zero support by west developers was the most expected thing ever. What I find really worrying is the complete lack of any kind of Japanese support.

Well, I would even say that western support looks good in comparison, this is how dire is the situation for Wii U.

Anyway, if Nintendo themselves don't bother to release anything, why third-party companies should?

Why are we surprised? No third party wants to commit to the Wii U due to technical limitations once Next Gen is in full swing and the low install base.

The Wii U is going to be no different than the Wii in 3rd party support. In fact it could be worse as not even the 3rd party shovelware developers are touching it.

edit - BF is about playing online. Why would anyone buy an online focused game for the Wii U?

EA can lay the same groundwork anywhere. Groundwork isn't exclusive.

The pad? Throw a map and a pause screen that allows customization of your weapons/classes. Allow an option for off-TV play (not a lot of work). Done.

They bailed before the Wii U launch. Lots of games were quietly canned before any of the sales data from launch came in.

To be honest I don't think they see value in laying down groundwork on the Wii U though, I think they would expect the guys who buy all of the shooter titles are going to go ps3/360 to ps4/durango, after looking at how things are doing for the wii u itself and 3rd party titles on the wii u in the same genre I don't see them being wrong, I just don't see the Wii U becoming anything of that sort of ecosystem.

It makes me wonder now how long it will be until Ubisoft abandons Wii U.

Thats not even close at this point, EA abandoned the system long before launch, Ubisoft is atleast waiting for Nintendo big games to push hardware.

EA pretty much lied

If Nintendo wanted ports of next gen games then they should have made a console powerful enough to get ports of next gen games.

The game is coming out on 360 and PS3 try again

I think the writing was on the wall for EA support when Crysis 3 was running on the Wii U platform, but they decided not to release it, just because......

After watching the trailer I am not surprised. to incorporate the gamepad they would have to rescript the entire game. lol

A new kind of the Nintendo seal of quality is born. :D

Well it's kind of a vicious cycle, isn't it? There's no excitement because there's no software being released for it.

Of course this is Nintendo's fault, attempting to sell the console with a NSMB that looks like a fucking Wii game everyone already owns and an unappealing minigame collection instead of a real system seller, a 3D Mario, a Zelda or a Smash Bros. Not to mention this fucking atrocious drought we're currently experiencing.

Stretching some of these dev teams thin is an understandable excuse to some extent. However, some of these devs have no problem doing cross-gen titles across 4-5 platforms... and 2 of those platforms are gonna be brand new.

Wii at the beginning at least had some interesting unique third-party titles, Wii U won't even have that.

Wasn't Riccitello on stage at E3 last year talking about BF coming to Wii U? Or was it just EA games in general. Thought I remembered something battlefieldish in the background.

I'm not shocked but it's still a big deal, especially with the assumed PS360 releases. Another kick in the face

EDIT: Saw the video above. Feel even worse now ha

Agreed. This thing is going to have worse support than Wii if things keep up.

I thought EA and Nintendo were playing nice with each other.

Everything we have been led to believe has been the opposite of this, starting waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back with the rumors that Nintendo nixed the idea of Origin backing the Nintendo Network for WiiU.

Not sure wheeeeeeeeeeeeeere you got the idea that they were playing nice.

Crysis 3 struggled to turn a profit on systems with a combined 140 million unit install base. Tell me in what way releasing the game on a platform that's doing poorly and whose own minuscule install base has little interest in shooters is a good idea. Battlefield 4 is an arguable proposition because they're gonna make money on that product with a near-guarantee, so a pity port wouldn't be so out of the question. Crysis 3, on the other hand, barely had a market on the other systems, making a Wii U version a stupid business decision at best.
