Battlefield Bad Company beta coming (360)

Couldn't it just be where EA wants you to pay for guns you can unlock with higher ranking? I think they did a similar thing with cars in NFS Prostreet.

Well... I got the key... but they don't start the beta until after spring break. Kinda sucks.

There are a few unlocks that say "Avaliable in Gold Edition or on Xbox Live Marketplace".

There are 2 rows of guns that say "Buy this weapon on Xbox Live Marketplace".

My mind.

It has been blown.

Holy shit.

Is it possible to scrap internet connections on the next generation of consoles... Holy fuck is that mind blowing.

That'd be a funny joke, if that wasn't an entirely realistic prospect at this point. This almost deserves its own thread. What's the full story?

Just read an article the other day about some competitive shooter about to be released in the states... you actually have to buy your ammo.

I did a double take to make sure it wasn't an Onion article...

The funny thing is that the biggest concern among console owners used to be that the new online functionality would cause developers/publishers to skimp on quality and instead rely on patches. Oh how they underestimated the wickedness of the publishers.

I've never had a problem with patches... I'd rather have that option than not have it.

Microtransactions were always the most worrisome to me... and that the publishers and marketers were talking about them like the were "good" things.

Maybe CoD5 can charge for special "perks".

I guess this would be a good time to clarify that the weapon/gadget unlocks I listed earlier are unlocked via ranking up in-game. So in total theres 10 you can get free and 10 you get to buy =/

Wow... great ratio. Buy the game... and then buy the weapons/gadgets. Having half the content locked after you just dropped $60 on a game is just wrong.

The whole having to buy guns this is really, really lame. I should have expected something like this out of EA.
Look on the bright side....there will be a whole-lot of "Knife-only" games in the future...at least until they decide that you need to purchase that too....

I would not be as averse to this concept (but still disgusted) if the GAME was free and the components like bullets to play it were microtransactions like a nightly or session play fee along the lines of $0.25 per hour of game play or so. Then the only way I would ever drop money on a game would be one's that earned it through gameplay hours. Trouble is that publisher's don't like that model because it puts all the risk on them. If you can get suckers to pay you for the game AND pay to play, then you are a happy publishing scumbag....

Yea, but that game is trying to mix gambling into a video game(FPS). If that's the one you're talking about.

Agreed. And it was just as wrong when they did it with BF2 on PC with the Special Forces expansion and the other smaller map/guns packs.

Yet this seems even more egregious, because at least expansions come later. They aren't greyed-out options in the menus until you pay for them.

No. One was a full expansion with 8 new maps and tons of new guns and gadgets for 29.99. The other two were map packs that had 3 new maps and some new vehicles and weapons for $10 each.

This is just nickel and diming bullshit. The content is done, and it's not some huge map they made. It's a fucking gun. And they're purposefully keeping it out of the game to make you pay for it.

Again I agree. Not to defend EA, since EA makes angry robot angry, but at least it's not something that would splinter the user/player base.
On a super happy friendly note, does anyone know anything regarding how squads work? I hope its executed the way Frontlines did it.

That's hard to believe. I mean, really.

Really? :lol

I wonder how the devs feel about this on-the-disc locked content. Did some suit walk in their offices in the last week of bug fixing, and just mandate "This gun, this gun, this gun, ooh, that shiny one, this gun, the silenced version of this gun, that gun, the big gun, the James Bond gun, and the uber special hyper gun of infinite win...we're taking them out. Special edition only. The rest of the $60 cheapskates can buy them online or go fuck themselves."?

How do the community managers respond to questions about balance and spawns when 10% of your community is running around with shit no one else has? What about drops?

Imagine if EA buys Rockstar we have to pay 400 MS points to cross certain area of GTA 5.

Hookers really will cost money... only you won't be able to kill them and get it back. :lol

Yeap, this is true. And to buy top-tier guns or other gadgets. You'd walk up to a weapon vendor in-game, the guy would ask you if you want a gun, and a system blade would slide out asking you for 250 MS points.

Thank you for purchasing the UberSpudGun 2000* (800 Points),

*please note you will also need to buy the trigger for this weapon to work efficiently (200 Points)

This pay-for-guns bullshit really needs it's own thread.

This is serious BOHICA and this shit NEEDS TO FUCKING STOP.
