Battlefield: Bad Company demo dated

If your support go to your medkit in Gadgets(For the Xbox the LB) and if you unlocked the healing syringe for Assault, the same button.

I downloaded both versions and the X360 looks better if you really look hard enough, the framerate holds up surprisingly well for both versions.

Though I love the PS3 version because there is lesser lag in the game (is it dedicated servers?).

And i love how it rumbles when a tank is driving past you.

the guns sounds great, i love the echo.

This game feels a lot like I imagine Killzone 2 feeling after seeing the videos of it, just the gun sway and such. THe world feels kind of empty though, even though things like trees can be blow up. Pales in comparison to the lush destructible environment of Crysis (playing that right now), it's also weird to see all this smoke and stuff on the battlefield only to have it nice and clear when it suddenly is in the cut scene.

Still a fun ass demo though, nice and long, gave me a good taste of the game. Might have to pick it up

played through single player, but neglected multi when i saw i had to register through EA. im second guessing myself now and i think when i get home im going to give multi a try.

The filter on the PS3 demo is blinding. I'm playing on a 46" plasma and it is just a fuzzy, blurry mess, that does nothing but distract me.

The sound also is not very clear; I get a crackling noise through my speakers during guy fights. It's very odd. I tried messing with the surround sound setting to no avail.

Overall, I'm not sold on this game based on this demo; it's missing something and I just can't put my tongue on it. The shooting is decent, but not doing anything that hasn't already been done better.......

Also, does the demo even have mic support on the PS3? I couldn't find anyone to talk with in the 90 minutes that I played.

The so-called destructible environments are worthless because you can't destroy load-bearing walls.

If that's supposed to be a back of the box selling feature, then it's a flat out fucking lie.

None of the buildings I saw taking fire offered anything that I would qualify as "destructible".

Yes,it has mic support.

Anyway,I love the destructable buildings,I can cut through to my goal faster by blowing up walls.

as someone whose never played a battlefield game i can honestly say i'm really impressed. i've played the single player demo about 4 times now and i'm really diggin it. i pre-ordered the game about a month ago on a whim, but now im glad i did.

the multiplayer was fun too. but so far with most of the matches i've been in, everyone seems to be treating gold rush like it's a COD4 team deathmatch and not even bothering with the actual objectives.

I have a 42" Plasma and I have the PS3 version and I have no idea what you are talking about. Game looks great on my TV.

Was cool, like the gun audio, the filters are a bit wouldnt say blurry....... just more tiny edges that it didnt need, like everything has tiny prickles on it, not jaggies but yeah, meh, it works for the style, gotta play multi later on and see how that goes.

I've had a few little hiccups, but the PS3 demo ran MUCH smoother for me than the 360 one online. Far better. I have no idea why.

Bullshit. The Bad Company demo is great. Haze? lol. Either you're crazy or just trying to be funny.

?

the haze demo had better controls, graphics, ai, gunplay and multi-player. the battlefield demo blows.

I would say your analysis of the demo blows. Anyone who thinks Haze is remotely close to the Battlefield demo in quality is most certainly about 6 cans short of a six-pack.

No way, what's there is way better than nothing. And it's definitely a step in the right direction that I hope more games will follow. Someone will eventually overcome the technical/gameplay design hurdles that I'm sure fully destructible buildings would cause.

Not at all.

The battlefield is my favorite multiplayer game series, but after playing several matches online and giving this game many chances, I just don't find it fun to play. At first I was judging it as a Battlefield game and it fails at that, then I judged it as just a fun shooter to play, but it isn't even very fun in that regard either. I'm sure it's the best console-only gamers can do with a battlefield game, but so many aspects of this game just feel way off.
Not true. Have you ever tried Frontlines: Fuel of War? Much better Battlefield game (on consoles) than Battlefield itself.

I totally forgot about that one. I only played the demo, but it was pretty good. I also didn't try the console version of Quake Wars, but the PC version was also not bad.

The multi is laggy as hell at times and COD4 gunplay kills this. Also the weapons are very inefficient.

We need COD4 with vehicles.

i was confused through the whole demo , shooting enemies is like " alright , i shot in his direction ! is he dead ??" , the controls are very awkward , the graphics are average at best , playing the demo was a big chore.

verdict : terrible.

Multiplayer is great so far (but please give me better framerate in the buildings area).

Just had a great battle (probably 40minutes long) attacking. The other team was really tuff to crack. We just barely won each section.

I hope for better framerate

I have yet to try the MP but so far Frontlines destroys this game.
Not surprised. They made the excellent BF1942 Desert Combat mod and helped make BF2 before EA fired them.

My experience with this demo:

Letterboxed? oh well
BLUUUUUUUUUUUR
BLOOOOOOOOOOM
Why the weapons moves so much?
Did I kill him? BOOOM AM DEAD...NO KILLCAM?
OMG THIS GAME HAS THE WORST CONTROLS FOR VEHICLES EVER!
SO... I CAN'T RECOVER ENERGY -_-

*quits and plays COD4*

I was impressed by the demo. Certainly leaps and bounds in the right direction, especially in comparison to Call of Duty 4.

No lag.
Vehicles.
More diverse set of weapons.
Classes are accutely different.
Destructibility, to a degree.
No kill cam [it just became annoying after a while]

I'm in the occupation of judging the two in every aspect, BF: BC wins in all categories. It's like Call of Duty 4 and Warhawk had a child. Although it's far from perfect - the effectiveness of some weapons is dominant and destructibility is kind of meh considering it's the main selling point. It should be dynamic like in Killzone 2.

I was impressed with the engine, but the game suffers from extreme tunnel vision. The game will not be bought as I suspect Dice will not look into it.

This is a problem for all battlefield games, you never know what the fuck just happened.

Besides that the game isn't that intuitive with the objetives and what you need to do at first

both games are quite different BF feels like a sandbox game compared to COD4

Actually enjoyed the singleplayer quite a bit, it reminded me of Killzone a little bit as well. The graphics engine is great, and the game has a surprisingly diverse color palette for a military shooter. The multiplayer reminded me a lot of Battlefield Modern Combat for Xbox though, which I wasn't a fan of.

I went in expected destructible buildings being the main attraction, but I actually play it just for sound. It's the best sounding shooter every made. The echoes are incredible and it really depends on everything around you as to what it sounds like. Blowing up stuff is pretty cool, but it's also damn annoying. If a tank is in your base, you are fucked. You can't hide anywhere and they take so damn long to destroy.

I really dig this demo. It has flaws, especially in the SP concerning the AI, which behaves very odd at times, but the atmosphere is just perfect. The BF universe and gameplay lends itself extremely well for the sarcastic story on the reality of war. The cutscenes are pretty amazing, with excellent use of depth-of-field.

After 30 minutes of playing, you'll feel a slight pop in your ears of all the explosions and gunfire on and offscreen. The sound effects also change dramatically, if you fight in an urban zone or in the open. Blowing up stuff is pretty interesting. At first, I didn't really use it, then I'd blow my way through buildings, and now I just destroy as much of the buildings as I possibly can, especially the gold houses. It's indeed a shame you can't blow up the load bearing walls. I didn't expect the buildings to collapse or something. More like a wireframe of steel after being hammered severely. There are also some buildings that can't be destroyed at all, and at one time I saw the wall explode 'too late'. I like how the doors are to be destroyed in this game. You can't open them, but you have to shoot several rounds at the door or fire one shotgun round and the door won't be completely destroyed, but you can run towards the door and it will break apart. The one thing I really think they should have paid more attention to, is ground destruction. Sometimes an enemy hides behind a small hill, and it's just annoying having to wait for it to pop up, while you carry a grenade launcher or when you're in a tank. I'd just would like to tear the hill apart.

The Multiplayer class systems and gameplay takes a while to get used to or to understand. I didn't really have an overview of what was going on. But when you get the hang of it, it's good fun. The unlockables are quite awesome. The stats in the lower right corner are a good indicator of what to expect from the weapons. I like how a lot of the classes that were pretty redundant in BF2, such as the engineer and the support class, have been integrated into other classes. It was my main gripe with BF2 back in the day. Tanks and armour in general are now way more dangerous when grouped into large sections. When you have 3 tanks rolling towards a position, they can easily blast it to pieces. It makes hiding in buildings somewhat risky, but challenging none the less. You can see your cover getting destroyed, your ears get popped and you run left and right to find a better place to hide. That's really one of the charms of this game. Also, to my surprise, I haven't seen any bunny hopping.

I kinda miss not being able to lie down on the ground though, but I guess the exclusion of, forces you to move a lot and be creative at finding cover. The MP level provides a lot of creativity for cover. It's also very nice to sit behind a wall, you know will be destroyed very soon. It feels like defying virtual death.

kickass demo! best sound effects to date! man those sounds are super crisp, fit perfectly, are super unique and are very directional!
The sound department and engine is unbelievable

the rest is again super polished work... I have the same BF feeling, I had when I bought BF2 for PC! and I think I get addicted again...

1# day for me... even if its EA

The completely destructible environments is absolute bullshit. Each building in the game can't be completely destroyed, the frame of the building always stays intact.

The game is still incredibly fun though and will probably be a day 1 purchase for me. Although this game isn't as good as BF2, the fact that this game can actually run properly(BF2 takes forever to load and has a low FPS count on my rig, which is why I stopped playing it) this game is instantly better.

....Crysis.

Having played the demo thoroughly now for several days I'm not any further on with my conclusion.

The thing I liked initially I now really like and the things I hated I now really hate.

Pros

- The sound is quite simply the best I've ever heard in game, I'm assuming EA are using occlusion and diffraction techniques. Incredible.
- Very smooth frame rate, no tearing
- Varied selection of weapons

Cons

Everything else, some highlights:

- Grainy filter adds nothing
- Terrible net code (it feels as antiquated as Battlefield : 1942)
- Ballistics model is inconsistent
- Destructible walls are not fully implemented, thus frustrating due to poor level design
- Grenade launcher is underpowered (radial damage is narrow)
- Medic is worthless, even a good one feels insignificant and has little effect
- Spawning within a squad has to go, people literally appear from nowhere
- The controls overall are very mechanical, especially aiming
- Whilst varied, the weapons do not have noticeable benefits over the other (inside class)

Overall I feel the problems that existed in both Battlefield 1942 and Modern Combat have not been addressed, and they are highlighted even further in a generation that has moved forward.

I started off really not feeling this game at all...

Played both the PS3 and XB360 demos and thought the PS3 had waaaaaaaay too much pop-in and disappearing things in it (like vehicles in the SP portion that would explode and completely vaporize!)...XB360 was a bit better but no great shakes eitherr, although I did notice specifically that in the water on the 360 version you could see underwater vegetation that was missing on my PS3 demo...hopefully THAT gets addressed before the game goes to retail...

MP was a mixed bag at first too...first attempt to play on the 360 gave me server unavailable errors, so I switched to PS3 and finally got on only to get lag up the butt...went back to 360 and eventually got into a game and it too lagged...turned everything off and came back later to get lag-free games but HATED it at first because of being totally unfamiliar with the controls and maps...

Started playing again yesterday and actually started really getting into the game - still can't fly worth a damn, but the game for me is quite similar to BF2:MC on 360 and I liked that quite a bit (tho I see in this thread that others did not)...Definitely a buy for me!

One of the best things about this game along with the sound is how smoke and dust will build up if there's heavy action in one area.

Earlier today I was defending and was up on the hill to the right of the first base. The attackers got all the tanks, even ours, and surrounded our base. They had two across the river, one on the bridge, and the rest at the front. With the tanks, artillery, and heli, they just shelled the shit out of our base for several minutes. I took out one with my laser targeting thing and then just watched as everything got blown to shit. Constant explosions, everything destroyed, smoke everywhere, my teammates running around like ants under a magnifying glass trying to escape. It was quite amazing.

I like it now, but my first go at it had me frustrated.

SP - I skipped the video, but couldn't skip the real time crap. After I finally started walking and it was all tutorial, I was instantly fed up and quit.

MP - this is why i've always played BF. the demo map is alright from a gameplay standpoint, but it's boring as hell in every other way. just a bunch of sand everywhere. first time I played I kept dying and kept confusing the controls. you can't level the buildings which was thoroughly disappointing; i would've preferred a way to level the entire map and then have things respawn than what they decided to go with.

once i got the hang of it i had a good time playing, but if too many of the maps are desert based i can't pick this one up. give me wake island and i'm sold.

i was quite surprised with this demo. went from being off my radar to on my gamefly Q. one of the first successful consolized PC shooter transformations i've seen. controlled great.

I like the demo alot, looking forward to the full game if it gets good reviews and there are no major problems
