I think if this wasn't Battletoads, I'd be pretty excited about it.

The problem is that it's such a big shift from the series' past look that it's distracting. The animation is very Cartoon Network (reminds me of Total Drama Island), which could work in a new IP but feels pretty bizarre here. The Dark Queen's redesign is formless and lacks panache; they don't necessarily have to keep the dominatrix look, but what's there now is very uninteresting and bland. It's also strange that her character is less a cackling mistress of darkness and now some sort of comic deadpan snarker?

I will say this--it's impressive how they're sticking with the NES game's approach to gameplay, genre-bending variety...although that was one of the NES game's biggest weaknesses too...

Also, Streets of Rage 4 is amazing! It looks and sounds gorgeous and it's a blast to play. But that's not really here nor there since the new Battletoads isn't by the same team or anything.

Even that by itself is not such a bad thing, but in Battletoad's case, they chose very ugly art style in my opinion.

Yeah I don't think there are so many people longing for Banjo or Perfect Dark either. All of those IPs belong in videogame museums, it's ok to dust them off from time to time in cheap revivals, but it's more PR than business, showing off that you have a history in gaming.

Battletoads were always tough and edgy. They stood with Billy and Jimmy from Double Dragon. I’m hesitant just because if this didn’t say “Battletoads”, I’d probably skip it completely. The Killer Instinct characters were a tease and it sure didn’t feel like we’d get this.

It could be fun. I just can’t say I’d want another one with the same art style. It has that Dexter’s Laboratory/Power Puff girls look to it. Even Samurai Jack stayed true to its original art style.
