That no hot linking screen is a bull shot
I feel that sales can go either way due to only having 1 day of sales. Those saying that the game bombed are entitled to do so. All im saying for me 1 day of sales isnt enough data to declare it a bomb. Most posters are using the sales of Bayo 1 as a measuring stick from 5 years ago. What they arent doing is that they arent adjusting that measuring stick to reflect todays current console market and Japans moble market trends. Japan as moved away from console gaming. You cant just compare the past on a 1:1 ratio and call it a day. Bayo 2 could sell half of what Bayo 1 did and still be successful all depending if it turned a profit or not.
See thats exactly what im talking about. 5 years ago was a completely different market in japan. See above post.
Also Bayo 2 isnt JP exclusive, worldwide sales today are way more important than they were 5 years ago. Its just a different industry today.
Three? FF3 was a PS2 game published by Tecmo. 4 was Wii and published by Nintendo, and the upcoming one is Wii U, published by Nintendo. Also Fatal Frame/Project Zero still belongs to Tecmo Koei despite the fact the last three games and a spin off have all been published/funded by Nintendo. Nintendo doesn't have to buy the IP if they can make it beneficial to Sega.
Its not hard. Give me a number. Here are the first week sales:
Bayonetta (PS3) - 138,430 copies
Bayonetta (360) - 66,211 copies
Bayonetta 1 + 2 (Wii U) - 33,114 copies
Please think about what you are saying. Bayonetta sold 370k in JP and iirc at most 200k in US (first month) and was still dropped by SEGA due to it being a commercial failure. What kind of logic does one use to think that Bayo 2 does not need to equal or beat those sales to be a profitable venture when its the same team, the graphics are the same and the dev time is around the same ballpark.
Is this thread for real right now?!
Are we really doing this same song and dance AGAIN?!
Stealth and not-so-stealth port begging is still allowed?!
The usual suspects are still showing their obvious bias toward certain platformholders?!
Why is this still a thing?!
A game being sold on a console in a region that prefers handheld devices doesn't make this all that surprising.
For what it's worth, Bayonetta 1+2 ranked at top of the eShop sale charts between the 15th and 21st, selling more in its 2 days than any other full or small digital game.
It's also top of the all-time rankings, with a GBA Castlevania in second place, and the new FFV in 3rd.
I think the idea that posters are putting forth is that 2 days of sales are enough to call it a bomb if you follow Japanese sales. Anyway, 3 days from now you will have your confirmed bomb so this discussion need not continue any more.

But that was really the point, Nintendo would only want to pay for the IP if they were very confident they would want future installments, if it's not a sure fire thing, it makes sense to have a relationship with the IP owner and evaluate it on a per-game basis.
Exclusive rights to the entire franchise, in perpetuity, would be a pointless thing for Nintendo to acquire in favor of the IP.
Sega are done, they're never making Bayo 3 for any platform, I imagine no one will, but it won't be them if anyone does.I was counting the remake of the second game.
Well yeah but for Bayo 3 to be a PS4/XB1 game it would require not only Sega to be interested in another game but Nintendo to not be interested. It's also possible that they own the assets to whatever games they produce; Goldeneye would be good precedence there.
It would be de facto exclusivity.
You're missing the FF2 remake.Three? FF3 was a PS2 game published by Tecmo. 4 was Wii and published by Nintendo, and the upcoming one is Wii U, published by Nintendo.
well for one what's a failure for sega may not have been for everyone else. look at what sega puts out now. pretty sure they had to double down on only their most popular franchises because of money trouble. also Nintendo sells hardware so their sales expectations could have been lower yet still acceptable because it diversifies their platform's software library.
Sega does not have a money problem now being one of the biggest publishers just due to them spending their money smarter and arcades working and patchiko (Their real bread and butter with their Yak buddies) their business is booming.
The problem with Sega is they need to rebuild their western wing.
I don't put 'IMO' on obviously subjective statements, because it's moronic.
This. 3rd party exclusives on Nintendo consoles is equal to throwing money off a bridge.Poor excuse, the real reason is because its on the WiiU. Nintendo fans only buy the staple titles. Anything else is ignored.
Covert implies there's some degree of stealth.
Only time when we need to be 'concerned' is when the main talent leaves Platinum for 'greener pastures'![]()
This is another thing thats different in todays market compared to 5 years ago. Which no one is adjusting their 360 bayo 1 measure sticks around. Digital downloads games are way more popular today. I wonder if theres anyone reporting these numbers?
We will see then. Also dont forget Digital download sales!

sega intentionally gutted their us side of business in 2012 when they moved forward with their current direction.
confusingly, they also purchased atlus, who does a lot of business in the west and deals with localizing games only for the us market.
Which is exactly what Nintendo is trying to fix by getting these exclusive games.This. 3rd party exclusives on Nintendo consoles is equal to throwing money off a bridge.

How endearing that you are 'concerned' about Nintendo "throwing money off a bridge". Poor Nintendo they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
So much this.
- Sony/Microsoft: Hey guys, we have several exclusives just for you!!
- People: Fucking great!!
- Nintendo: Hey guys, we have several exclusives just for you
- People: Fuck you, Nintendo!! Moneyhat tsk tsk smh
Man, I will never understand....seriously.

How hard is it too understand that people get pissed off when the next entry in a franchise ends up on a completely different console? Didn't you see the shit hit the fan when MS made it look like the new Tomb Raider games was exclusive to Xbox? PC and Sony fans were furious.

Not everyone has the luxury of buying a console based on a game or two. Lots of people see it as an investment for a generation, and if they'd only had a PS3 or a 360, the vast majority of the franchises they're used to are either not on Wii U, or pale in comparison on it.Considering it's a new generation if people wanted it they'd have to buy a new console anyway, if they love bayonetta that much then Wii U should have been their only choice
I didnt think we were even having a argument. I though we were just sharing opinions. Im not trying to change your mind here.
Ill call it a bomb once world wide sales are out and we wont be seeing a sequel like The Wonderful 101. Which is a real shame.
I always find it funny when people use this as an excuse.
I've seen download sales like Nintendo eShop / PSN stuff first-hand, and I can tell you right now that it never seems to be all that significant a factor for the good majority of retail titles.
I guarantee you that Bayonetta 2 is going to realise the vast majority of its sales at retail.
And see this:
Youkai Watch 2 had 583,459 sales at retail...but only 19,355 download sales.
That's a good example of their irrelevance.

It's pointlessly subjective to argue which platforms have the most 'top quality' games. The point is some people would like Bayonetta 2, but still want one of the other consoles more, which is why they're pissed off. It doesn't matter what's logical, or what any individual thinks is the best platform, it's not going to impact port begging or people shitting on Nintendo in YT comments and whatnot. Then they could play different franchises, not like the Wii U isn't short of top quality titles, whereas it could be argued other systems are

I did and PC and SONY fans were so stupid.
But when it is related to Nintendo, is take it to another level.
They won't listen, just watch.I always find it funny when people use this as an excuse.

It's not hard to understand, it's just stupid. Nintendo fans still furious and waiting for that FF7 on N64. What is your point? People shouldn't be irritated because the paralysis of choice has always existed?Back in the day when I want to play Alex Kidd, what should I do? Buy a Master System. Mario? NES and then SNES. Sonic? Mega Drive.

It's difficult to put your head in that of someone who can't have more than one platform, and it's easy to be angered by the naivety dotted throughout the internet, but it's never going away. People have different expectations when it comes to games that are established on rival systems, it's not normal to know the phrase 'first party', or 'IP', most people don't know, or care to know the details as to how and why a sequel to a game they played on their 360 isn't on their XBO.
It's not buying the game though, is it? It's buying the platform.i can understand being upset that a game that was previously on one system is now on another, like tomb raider's exclusivity with microsoft. i don't agree with that being a reason why i should be upset, but i can understand why someone would be.
but in bayonetta's case? i can't understand these people at all. it's not a difference between getting it on one system that you actually love and one you actually don't. it's a difference between getting the game and not ever having it ever. if they're a fan like they claim to be, to the point where they're shouting at platinum and kamiya, then they should fucking be adults and buy the fucking game they claim they're a fucking fan of. christ.
