Bayonetta announced for Smash Wii U/3DS

Something occurred to me a few hours ago (I mentioned this in other threads). If Nintendo does make a Smash 4: Complete Edition for the NX Platform, what are they gonna do about Bayonetta? Judging by the rating warning at the start of the Direct...

Bayonetta's DLC pack ended up being rated T despite all of the censoring that Sakurai & Bandai Namco were able to accomplish (Fire Emblem Fates is the reason for the RP rating, since both versions of the game were referenced in name & gameplay). If they include Bayonetta in said Complete Edition, it'd increase the base game's rating, thus limiting the people that Nintendo could advertise the game to. This may be bad news given how hard they're pushing Smash 4 to kids, especially if it's an NX Platform launch title.
You were wrong about Bayonetta and you'd be wrong about the T meaning anything against Smash' sales. Melee and Brawl were both teen.

Exactly. Smash for NX would be fine if it were rated Teen.

EDIT: Oh, Brawl was E10+?
Brawl was rated T for 2 main reasons (or so I've heard)...
  1. Snake
  2. Bloody Master Hand in SSE
If you look at the Christmas commercials for this year, they're pushing Smash 4 hard for both Wii U & 3DS (all the games they're pushing are E10+ tops). My concern is that they would no longer be able to do that for a possible Complete Edition for the NX Platform as far as advertising to kids goes.

I'm still so glad this happened, this is like cloud getting in but in a different way, bayonetta was thought to never be included because her main arsenal involves not only handguns but actual footguns aswell, her game is about a witch working for demons fighting angels, and her whole deal is her sex appeal.

Convince me there will be a complete edition then I'll indulge this question seriously

What are you talking about? Smash has never been pushed to kids and both Melee and Brawl were rated T. You're drastically overthinking this. This idea that Nintendo only cares about kids is ridiculous and I'm surprised it still exists. Being T rated doesn't restrict them from anything. M yes, T no.
Smash 4 in particular has been pushed to kids since its release thanks to its E10+ rating. It was pretty much on every cartoon channel when it first came out, & it's everywhere for the Christmas commercials this year. Obviously they can just not mention Bayonetta with the regular game, but my concern lies with the possibility of a Complete Edition. Granted, they could include a code for Bayonetta in the box (assuming they do a Complete Edition), but that'd be kinda weird to do that for a possible Complete Edition for the NX Platform.

What were the ads for Brawl like? Did it even have ads? I don't remember any which is weird since I would remember something like that.

I remember Metroid Prime 3 was rated T and they gave it a friggin' "Wii Would Like To Play" ad for the whole family like it was Wii Sports or some shit.

And yet, she made her way to the game, almost unscratched.
Damn impressive.

A Teen Smash Bros game can be targeted to families no problem, more if, as you said, only a few elements are not "family friendly"

The only real changes were....
  • Less of her clothing comes off for her Wicked Weaves
  • Her clothing removal for her Final Smash is off-screen
  • Obvious censoring with her lines
  • Stylized shots to make it look like as if her gun shoots energy blasts instead of bullets
Granted, it wasn't enough to stay within the game's E10+ rating, but they did pretty well without compromising her character.

Dude, a teen rating would only boost sales once they bring back Peach's panties and Tharja trophy.
Oh shit, you're right about the possibility of the Tharja trophy coming back.

The last one isn't true since you can see bullet casings coming out of her guns. Most noticeable on the Kirby one.

Not really. Smash 4 was given an E10+ because ratings are more lax in general. Melee would have been given the same rating if it had existed back then and Brawl pretty much only had it because of Snake. Being in cartoons also doesn't mean being pushed to kids...cartoon channels will pretty much advertise anything that isn't M or a hard T

Because no one gives a shit about a T rating unless you're targeting little kids! Neoxon is the only one who seems to think it's a potential issue. It's the equivalent of PG13 nowadays, which pretty much every superhero movie is and no one would say those aren't kid accessible/appropriate

Someone on Twitter noted that, but I didn't think to double-check Kirby's version of the special.

Another thing that I noticed, both Pit & Palutena's voice actors for Smash 4 recorded unique lines for the Bayonetta reveal. You guys think we'll get more Palutena's Guidances for the DLC characters come February?

1) There hasn't been a complete edition announced
2) If there is, we don't know how big or expensive a project it will be
3) We don't know how much they would dedicate to advertising or where
4) I am pretty sure, even assuming all that, they will probably just roll with a T rating rather than cut out a character or bother trying to include her as a code (which wouldn't keep the lower rating, anyway - DLC is subject to ESRB ratings once it changes the core rating of the game).

If I recall, a bit of censoring had to be done to get that E10+ rating in the first place (Ex: No Peach panty shots, no Tharja trophy, etc.).

Why would Smash 4 be a launch title? It has been available on both 3DS and Wii U, with a total of more than 11M units sold.

The popular theory going around is the possibility of Nintendo doing an enhanced version of Smash 4 for the launch of the NX Platform with all of the DLC included & possibly a few extra features.

The popular theory people made up on their own and that there's no evidence for beyond some people thinking it makes sense.

To be clear.

Sakurai is probably a big Bayonetta fan. Remember this?

Why I see Samus with Tanooki Mario tail?

I don't get it. Come up with theory -> Discuss it -> start having hope -> believe it will hhappen -> consider it a given -> get mad when nothing happens -> f@k nintendo

Checking the Bayonetta trailer directly shows that the game is still rated E10. It was also PEGI 12 for the European Direct and ACB PG for the Australian Direct which seems strange that it wouldn't be PEGI 16/ ACB M for Bayonetta (Comparable ratings for T).

Yeah I've been noticing ratings are getting a bit more lax. Dark Souls II is Teen, for instance. I thought it was going to be a pretty flat, neutered Souls game after knowing it got rated T, but not really, it can get just as gnarly. It's just the lack of blood I think.

(Funny that Bloodborne seems to have made up for that and more. Most fucked up shit in the entire Souls series into that game)

I think E10+ is becoming the new "Teen", while "Teen" is becoming the "Mature lite". Halo 5 being Teen I think is also a sign of things changing (though I guess the Flood was responsible for the M ratings in the previous Halo games, but still).

I thought the same thing, but I was apparently told that it was the base game's rating.

Personally, I never understood why Halo got a M rated to begin with. From what I have seen of it, there is nothing overly violent about that you wouldn't see in Star Trek or Star Wars, both which PG to PG-13. Maybe language, but I wouldn't know since I never personally played Halo.

Working late into the night trying to wrap up projects before Xmas. Just watched the direct at 2am. I was so surprised by this that I had both my hands on my face. I think the fact that I'm really sour on Pit made the reveal that much more shocking. As soon as he started his conversation with Palutania my expectations took a huge dive.

Do people think Smash is getting an NX port? It's already 1080p and 60fps, seems like a bad choice to show off a new system.

4K 60fps son.
Really though, if the NX home console is a step up from the PS4 it might be doable.

I don't think Nintendo will do it, but I think it makes a ton of sense if done right. Smash U's sales were seriously handicapped by the Wii U's low install base, and while the 3DS version sold very well, 3DS games are also less profitable per unit. A NX port would be a good way to potentially add on significantly more sales via double (or triple) dipping and bringing in new customers who missed out on it on Wii U. Plus, if the NX does end up being both a handheld and home console with a shared software ecosystem, Smash 4 could be an excellent showcase for that. Merge both Smash U and Smash 3DS into a single game with all features and stages now available on both platforms now with cross-buy/cross-play/etc.. And of course, exclusive Ice Climbers with the 3DS out of the way.

So a relatively cheap, AAA title that's extremely popular, that can finally achieve its sales potential after being hampered by the Wii U, that shows off the core gimmick, and improves and expands the overall package, ready to go for launch. Seems like a damn good idea to me.

Finally watched the video now that i'm home from work.

Holy shit, what an incredible representation and portrayal of her character in Smash form.

Sakurai and co. really fucking know how to implement these characters.

I really hope that Pit & Palutena doing new dialogue for the trailer means that we'll get more Palutena's Guidances this February.

It's kind of incredible how much thought and care he and his team put into each and every character. To the extent that most of it goes completely unnoticed. Even stuff like color palettes get a surprising amount of consideration.

Yep. You often she fan movesets for character ideas and they're just typical move per input lists. The Smash For newcomers have considered their source for interesting new mechanics meaning each one brings something completely new to the table. In some ways it almost makes the old Smash cast look a little outdated a ha ha ha.
