Because Lists Are Fun: Let's Rank the Resident Evil Series

I haven't played 4 and 5 yet... so...

1. Resident Evil 2
2. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
3. Resident Evil Remake
4. Resident Evil 0
5. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
I have and your list is how I would rank them. 4/5 feel like the least RE to me. 4 was good but starting to deviate from what made the series great. 5 was a 3rd person action game with tension brought up in part to the terrible controls.

5 is like all the problems with Code: Veronica (total aesthetic failure, story that's retarded in a retarded way instead of retarded in a fun way) and the shoot-the-glowing-weak-point baddies are frankly embarrassing to me. Sure the basic gameplay formula carried over from 4 is solid, but unless you hate all of the other RE games, that isn't some kind of end-all be-all redemption for what is generally a step down from RE4 in every non-graphical respect. The HUD is ass-ugly too and looks like placeholder art.

I'm actually quite surprized. I didn't realise it was hated by so many. Personally I think it was a good game, but maybe not really RE enough, if you know what I mean. Could have been another action game trying to be similar to RE4

It's certainly got problems, but the over the top hatred for RE5 is definitely one of those hivemind GAF things that caught on last year.

Not that other people's opinions should really matter enough for you to dismiss as "hive-mind", but RE5 as a game, felt like whoever made it had an amazing idea for a RE game, failed and then just used the RE4 template instead.

Hatred is a strong word. Dissapointment would probably be more apt.

Yeah it's basically that any good thing whatsoever in RE5 was done much better in its predecessor. At least they killed Wesker off so we can get back to creepy, faceless amoral corporations and massive accidental BOW outbreaks instead of goofy, carpet-chewing supervillains. Fuck you for making the series about absurd grandstanding supervillains, Code: Veronica. Fuck you. At least RE4 had the sense not to take itself seriously at all and ended up being wickedly fun as a result, but IMO the series really, really, really needs to get back to RE2/3. Code: Veronica was like someone looked at the two best games in the series so far and decided that the problem with them was that Birkin, Mr. X and the Nemesis didn't make enough five-minute-long speeches about becoming living gods.

1.RE4
2.RE Remake
3.RE2
4.RE3
5.RE
6.RE5
...
99.RE CV
100.RE0

hard to say which is king of the RE between 4 and Remake as they are incredible games within their own RE gameplay.
If I want to play the classic gameplay its Remake no.1 hands down...something more action like, 4 all the way.

Thanks to Remake the original RE gets pushed further down..still love to play it on my DS, original mode..

CV and RE0 I never ever want to play again.
CV awfull story and characters, game seemed to go on forever...

And no, RE4 did not go "against everything the series is about". You're wrong.
Yes it did. The past RE games were real survival horrors. A big facet of a survival horror is scarcity of ammo and other items. And you would only face an average of 2-3 enemies at a time and having to be careful about ammo or you can just bypass them when you can. In RE4 I was shooting down waves of zombies and there was no end to resources for you to pick up I was never worried about running out of ammo and healing herbs.

Survival horrors becoming action games is a problem that has inflicted the genre since RE4 proved that formula so successful. I actually had to turn down the audio when playing RE4 because all the shooting was annoying.

1.Resident Evil 4
2.Resident Evil 2
3.Resident Evil 5
4.Resident Evil Remake
5.Resident Evil Code Veronica
6.Resident Evil 3 Nemesis
7.Resident Evil 0

RE5 Defense Force.... Is an army of but one man.... I knew it would come to this one day...

I LOVED RE5. It was a georgous game with cool levels and the story is surprisingly complete and revealing. The persistant inventory system was perfected in 5 and we already see it and segmented chapters in other games like Demon's Souls. Plus 5 had the fantastic Mercenaries and equally excellent Versus. There was a lot of replayability and value in that disc.

I'll also defend Sheva, as I have many times before. She is an excellent A.I. partner who continues to impress even with my last playthough this holiday season. That her presence also explains co-op play through the whole story is another big bonus.

Haters, you know what you can do.

1. Resident Evil 4
2. Resident Evil 2
3. Resident Evil REMAKE
4. Resident Evil Code Veronica X
5. Resident Evil 5
6. Resident Evil 3
7. Resident Evil 0

I think. But frankly, it's hard to choose. I actually liked RE3, so all these games are highly regarded by me, despite their rank on this list.

Resident Evil REmake (1)
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil CV
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 3

1)Resident Evil Code: Veronica X
2)Resident Evil Rebirth
3)Resident Evil 2
4)Resident Evil 3
5) Resident Evil 0
...
..
..
1000) Resident Evil 4 & Resident Evil 5

4>REmake=2>Code Veronica>5>3=0

I liked 5 more than I should have, and it's not that I dislike 3 or 0 but they are just not as good as the others. :D

1. RE4
2./3. RE2
3./2. REmake
4. RE1: Director's Cut
5. RE5
6. Haven't played anything else

I actually just played and finished REmake for the first time this week. The series could definitely use that kind of atmosphere again. Mysterious incidents at an isolated location >>>> whatever was in RE5.

ooh ooh I got this one. here's the correct list:

1. Resident Evil 2
2. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
3. Remake
4. Resident Evil 4
5. Resident Evil
6. Resident Evil: Outbreak (and File 2)
7. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
8. Resident Evil 0
Pi/Infinity: lol Gun Survivor, Resident Evil 5, Umbrella Chronicles, Jill Sandwich

Didn't realize the most enjoyable co-op ever was done before. I finally understand why everyone loves RE4 so much...

there wasnt a single creepy thing in RE5
THE FLOWERS.

Serious answer: The lake level.

Resident Evil 2
REmake
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil

I see the rest of the games as crappy off-shoots even though I have played, and own, most of them. The real Resident Evil ended with 3 in my opinion.

REmake
RE 3
RE 2
RE CV
RE 0
-------------
Deadspace (aka RE in space)
RE 4
RE 5

REmake is one of my favorite games of all time and is easily the best Resident Evil experience. There's a reason why haunted houses are so popular. They're friggin' creepy. And REmake has delicious eery atmosphere in abundance. Matched with the tension building, plodding, survival minded gameplay. Perfection.

RE4 and RE5 just aren't Resident Evil games in my mind. I had a lot of fun with both, (the RE5 hate is way out of control) but it just wasn't the same. Plant heads just aren't nearly as scary/cool/satisfying/whathaveyou as good old zombies.

Deadspace is the best of "Resident Evil the Next Generation." The controls felt fluid and current while still keeping the main character nice and slow for the mood and pace of the game. And the dismemberment aspect seems like a great idea for a zombie game. Shame they beat Capcom to it.

As I know we'll never see another RE game in the vein of the originals, just give me Dead Space gameplay in a creepy mansion with zombies and I'd be a happy man.

From the ones I've played through:

RE5 > RE: Outbreak (so much fun online) > RE:1.

I started 2, 4, and Code Veronica but never finished.

Edit: oh, mainline only. I guess you can cross out Outbreak.
