Flat sheet
Me
Fitted Sheet
Mattress

Eff blankets/comforters unless it's 30 American Degrees or below because I get incredibly hot while sleeping.

Right answer is:
Patja(mattress) -> petari(thin mattress so your mattress does not get dirty. Sheet goes over this) -> lakana (sheet) -> nukkuja (you) -> pussilakanassa oleva peitto (blanket/duvet in a duvet cover) -> päiväpeitto (cover / counterpane or some shit) repästään helvettiin ku aletaan nukkua (you kick this mf to other side of moon when you go to bed)

Patja(mattress)

Petauspatja (thin mattress or some shit)

Lakana(Sheet)

Peitto(blanket/duvet)

Pussilakana (blanket/duvet cover)

Päiväpeitto(counterpane / cover)

Now here hear the truth.

Edit: quoted pics.

This is the correct answer.

Kids nowadays. Things weren't so easy back in the day:

For me it's always been, fitted sheet then comfortor.Fuck the top sheet its useless. Those of you complaining about the comfortor being too hot must live in places without air conditioning.

One thing I think I couldn't stand with the "american" way is the lack of simple options if it gets warm under the sheets.

With a duvet cover around your duvet/comforter you can easilly just turn it over and get the cold side on you. much like turning your pillow.

With a top sheet/flat sheet inbetween it would feel like hell of a maneuver to get it right again.

What's your wife's reasoning for not sleeping under the flat sheet?

She grew up using flat sheets to cover the mattress because they didn't have fitted sheets. And due to the year long summer, most people used what is known as a coverlet, comforters not necessary.

Mattress / mattress protector / fitted sheet / you / flat sheet (optional) / duvet

(UK here)

This is how it's always been in mine and my families houses. (also UK)

We don't use mattress protectors and it's usually only my Nan who has a second flat sheet, but mattress > fitted sheet > duvet.

I wish I knew how people could sleep with just a comforter though. Doesn't that get cold as hell at night? That can't be fun during the winter if you have that season.

That sheet is to be slept under OP.

For me it goes:

Summer: Mattress, mattress protector, fitted sheet, me when it's really hot outside. Maybe a thin blanket when it's not that hot.

Spring, Autumn, Winter: Mattress, mattress protector, fitted sheet, me, Duvet.

I have never heard of a thing called flat sheet

I'm amazed people don't sleep under sheets. Besides hygiene, a quilt cover set is usually less comfortable and more expensive. They last longer and stay in much better condition if you don't sleep straight under the quilt.

What does a sheet set come with where you're from? Here it's always a fitted sheet, flat sheet and two pillow cases.

I actually don't know, I have never bought a set if there even is such a thing. When you buy a bed you usually buy it with a mettress, then you go and get the rest (pillows, duvet, mattress protector, fitted sheets, covers for the pillows and the duvet. That's it. But fitted sheets and the covers often come in matching sets)

The real deal is:

Mattress / top mattress / mattress pad / fitted sheet / person / duvet cover (with duvet inside if cold)

I don't think anyone in Denmark uses a sheet on top of them, here they are made to cover and protect the mattress.

You sleep under the flat sheet.

What would be the point of having two sheets under you?

This.

Also, I'm super picky about the flat sheet and such being tucked into the foot of the bed. I can't stand when the flat sheet/comforter pulls up and my feet stick out of the bottom. I'm so particular about the sheets, I'll make the bed at night just before crawling in to go to sleep.

My wife is the absolute opposite. She gets in the bed and twirls around like an alligator to pull the sheets to her and almost cocoon herself in the sheets, so I usually lose the battle =(.

Do some of you sleep outside or something? There is no way you need like 10 different layers.

All I use is a fitted bedsheet around the mattress, and a duvet inside a duvet cover.

If it's cold, I just plop more blankets on top. If it's warm, I use the duvet cover alone or just a blanket (or nothing at all).

Your wife is mistaken; but if she's been using them that way her whole life, good luck convincing her.

The problem is they never used a flat sheet because they made their own sheets. So they bought fabric, made sheets to cover the mattress, and had the coverlets for covering. I grew up with a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and a really abrasive Sesame Street blankets. When I got older I had a comforter.

I just found it amusing that she thought I was nuts for the idea of sleeping between the sheets and she didn't believe what I was saying

Well, GAF, tried sleeping under the flat sheet for the first time today and it still makes no sense to me. Doesn't provide warmth or coolness, can't do anything with the bedspread, makes the fitted sheet comes out easily, and takes forever to put everything back in place in the morning. Sorry, GAF, I'm going to continue my barbaric practice.

If your fitted sheet is coming off, then you are buying the wrong size fitted sheet. It's that simple. Mattresses come in various thicknesses, so it's important that you buy the correct size for your mattress thickness as well.

Meh,

mattress/fittedsheet/flatsheet/me/comforter guy here.

Comforter is comfy, fitted sheet stays on for weeks, flat sheet, just have to fix a few wrinkles in the morning with minimal effort and bed is made, folding the comforter/blanket is easy. Wash it when I think it's time.

I consider my method to be great. Can't even imagine the extra time wasted making the bed if I was in between the fitted sheet and flat sheet. The way the bed is situated in the room, one side of it is a pain to get to.

As to why have both a fitted and a flat sheet. The fitted sheet provides some friction so the flatsheet doesn't mess up so easily, the flatsheet looks better/more presentable than just the fitted sheet.

But yes, I knew about people sleeping between the sheets though.

I always thought that fitted vs flat was an option. I've never heard of someone having both.

I'm still having a hard time believing these posts are real. You've never heard the phrase "between the sheets?" You've never bought a set of sheets, all of which come with both fitted and flat? You've never been to someone's house who has two sheets on their bed? You've never been in....any...hotel room? Never seen any scene in a tv show or movie where someone's getting into bed and they get in between two sheets? C'mon son.

It's like saying "I've never heard of anyone wearing both pants and underwear".

Wow, the amount of people who don't have the concept of bedding down is astonishing!

Top sheet

Duvet/Comforter (winter)

This is the standard. Weirded out by some people who think its normal to sleep over two sheets.

Mind is completely blown by this thread. Didn't even knew it was a thing for people to sleep between sheets but apparently seems to be the norm in some parts of the world.
Now that i think about it it's maybe something that i found odd about hotels abroad. All the sheets is something that i must have considered old fashioned but never really thought much about it.

In the hostels/hotels in New Zealand that I've worked in the correct order is this:
Mattress / mattress protector / fitted sheet / flat sheet / you / flat sheet / duvet / blanket (when it's cold)

A word of advice if you're a bit squeamish about hygiene: If you stay in a hotel/hostel then definitely do it like this. Why? Well, only the flat sheets are changed daily/between guests. Everything else stays there for at least 2 weeks. No matter how many people sleep in that bed.

This is how beds work.

I sleep between sheets like 30% of the time because my sheet slowly falls off to the side. Typically ill wake up in the middle of the night and my sheets and blankets are on the floor. I think I wiggle too much or something.

Oh god, not this thread again. It just let's me know how many weird wrong people there are out there in the world.

Comforter
Me
Fitted Sheet
Mattress

I hate sleeping under the bed sheet and comforter. It gets way too warm. My wife likes to sleep under the sheet so when I make the bed I fold the bed sheet in half so it's only on her side and I have just the fitted sheet.
