Blizzard's Online Store, now with Digtal Downloads!

Well, I guess it's finally time for me to play Starcraft.

Is there a client that runs while you play, or is the game just yours?

It's a pretty nice service. I mean, the downloadable games are pretty much exactly the same as the retail version, so you can still add them to Steam (and WC3 even works with the Steam overlay).

Really? Wow, then no reason to use this then. Lost CD keys is why I think steam is better than retail.

Unimportant details.

They got the important part right; you can redownload the game forever.

That's the main feature.

So it's been around 3 days since I've registered...still no verification e-mail.

Has anyone else waited this long?

I seem to have lost my Warcraft III CD key. It's not on the CD and it's not in the manual (though I was greeted to a blank line that told me to write it down). Where the hell did they put it? I lost the rest of the packing materials.

If you click on the "verify my email address" link, it may or may not work, depending on the time of day, Blizzard's servers, the alignment of the planets, etc.

Mine is stickered to the front of the CD case.
But don't ask me where the hell the StarCraft ones are. I can't find 'em anywhere on my copy of Broodwar (from the battlechest).

Ah..now it worked.

EDIT: Awww, Diablo II downloads are still unavailable...

Although it seems as though I will be able to download the english version of the game! I bought the french version, but always wanted the english one.

Brood War doesn't have a CD key. Only the original Starcraft does. And yes, Starcraft's is on a sticker on the back of the jewel case, just like Diablo II/LoD, Warcraft III, and TFT but on the other side of the case from those titles.

Broodwar doesn't have a CD key. You just need the one from Starcraft and it will give you access to both games as the "Starcraft Anthology."

Edit - Beat above. They also need to add Warcraft II Battle.net edition to this thing.

Somnid said:
Well this sucks. I sure as hell didn't pull the sticker off the jewel case but it seems as if someone did.

Only early Starcraft copies have a sticker, actually, I think. While my 1.0 (launch) SC copy has the key on a sticker on the back, my newer 1.5b (a couple of years newer) copy of the game has the key printed on the label on the back, in a white box underneath the plastic...

Yeah. I imagine they'll eventually add WCII BNE, and it'd be great to see. Warcraft II is still a great, great game.

A WCII BNE no-CD patch would require copying over a large file like SC's does, but other than that that would work fine too... regular WCII/BtDP used CD audio, but BNE has the audio all in the one large encrypted file, just like SC.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up...

If you have added a Diablo II or Lord of Destruction key to your Blizzard store account, you can now download the game from there. You still can't digitally purchase it, but for those like me who don't feel like digging around for the install discs it's quite nice.

All going well, you could use that deal to get a CD key and register it online with Blizzard to have the DD version as well!

Yeah, that is a pretty sweet way of getting around it.

Marking this thread so I remember to register all my games later <3 Don't think I have the Frozen Throne expansion though :(

Ooooh good news!

Thanks!

This is a godsend because one of my install discs was a bad print from the start,

Bought Diablo2 + LOD Digital Downloads but it won't let me download the games and when I try to input the game-key it says it's invalid.

One awesome thing about this is that people like me who own the original Windows-only version of Diablo II now have the ability to download the Mac version without having to re-buy it.

Now I know what I'm doing tonight. That kicks so much ass!

I know there's a way to make Diablo II run in Windowed mode on Windows... anyone know how to enable that on OSX?

The original "windows" version came with a Mac OS9 installer. But this lets you use OSX without patching everything beforehand!

Steam is great but you're all fooling yourselves if you think everyone is going to put their games on there. Especially Blizzard - they have no incentive to put their games on Steam.

I also don't understand why everyone wants everything on Steam, either. Other digital download services work just as well if not better.
Problem with DD software like with MMOs, is that you love to have one, but hate to have many.

DD makes things easyer. I dont have to worry about my CDs getting lost, or to insert houndreds of CDs everytime I reformat my PC, all I need is my login for Steam.

Untill every gaming company desides to create theyr own DD software. Then we will quickly end up with 20 maybe 30 different software to download every damn time we want to install our games, not to mention all the logins, all the cradit card info out there, and all the applications running in the background.

Steam is great, but once I have 5-6 traybar icons to manage my games, and maybe only 1 or 2 games on some of them, the purpose is all gone for me.

Steam or no-go. Im sorry, Valve won, bite it, join it!

As an aside, is Warcraft III still only playable in 4:3. Looks shitty on my widescreen monitor. Anybody?
An easy registry tweak will fix this. I've seen it done without hassle by others on lan, but never tryed myself... should be easy.

Just press Cmd+M during the game to toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode.

I have the Collector's Edition in front of me and there is absolutely no mention of Mac support on it (but fortunately it does say that it's 'Year 2000 Compliant') nor can I find any Mac installer on the disk. The original Mac version of Diablo II launched a little less than a month after the Windows version. Later releases of the game featured both the Windows/Mac versions on the same disk. Lord of Destruction, on the other hand, did have Windows/Mac support on the same disk from the beginning.

Damn: I traveled into the deepest dungeon of the building I call home to face Diablo, but I only faced the demons from my own past. (Fucking box broke, and all the old games spread over the floor >.<)

So my questions:

It's called being retarded. I know because I spend an hour bemoaning why my CD Keys wouldn't work: you have to go to your Blizzard account where you registered and look at your registered games. There under the name you'll see "VIEW GAME KEY" and that's the key you have to use.

I am so utterly retarded. :P

I'm on a mac but maybe there's a config file to tweak or something. Shame they never officially supported widescreen. Guess they needed to keep everybody on an even playing field. Sure hope SC2 will support widescreen.

???

How can that game be in the registered games section if you can't register the game ("Key appears to be incomplete")?

Do you have 16 characters on the CD key? This will allow you to register on the website, but the download installer wants a 26 character key, where I was having trouble. The new 26 character key is tied to your blizzard.com account.

If that key isn't working on the website to register, you should contact Blizzard.

Oh man, I'm so fucking retarded. :lol

I was entering the same damn CD key all day long over and over again and didn't notice the lack of the last character. It was just not there. Nothing. Not even rudimentary. However, I figured out the missing one by trying every letter: M.

Wait...you can't purchase D2+LoD for 25€? You have to buy D2 for 15€ and LoD for 15€? Come on Blizzard. >.<

Finally entered my copy of Diablo II 1.0 :lol I don't think I'm going to play it, but it's nice to know that they allow you to download the Mac version as well.

The problem for me was that after I had purchased the digital versions I got the page where I can either gift the games or submit the game keys to my account. Nothing happened when I pressed submit. And now If I go to my order history where the 26 character game key is and try to tie it to my account, I get a "Key Invalid".

I bought from the EU store if it matters.

It's OK, I've been retarded ALL day! First I did not realise you have to use the new webkey for installation of the downloadable client, and then not realising all you had to do to play in Windowed mode in OS X is press Apple + M (which is standard for pretty much ALL OS X apps).

It's been a kinda retarded day!

I get the same error when trying to registrer my retail games.
EU versions fot the matter.
I enter the key, on the next page I get "You entered a key for: Warcraft 3", the I select a language, and when I click next, I get the "Invalid key" warning!

Something aint right here =(

I'm getting this error for Diablo 2 today, but I was able to register my Starcraft and Warcraft 3 fine last month.

So, to clarify...if I don't have Diablo II (or, don't know where the CD's are) I have to go to a store and buy it, and THEN I can download it from Blizzard?
