Ok, So I know there is a continualy running takeover thread, but this will be a little different. I had the idea to make a thread like this several weeks back but havnt gotten around to it untill now.

So lets set some ground rules here to keep things organized.

There are 5 catagories of support:

Blu-ray

If you have chosen to support Blu-ray
HD DVD

If you have chonse to support HD DVD
Dual Format

If yu are supporting both untill one format wins over the other
DVD

If you have chosen to wait on the fence untill a winner is decided
Not Supporting
If you refuse to support either format

Whatever catagory you fall under, (if it's one of the 2 next gen formats) list what type of player you have, and how many titles you have in there respective catagorys, Feel free to even list them, Unless you pick DVD, in which case maybe just give a number, no need to like your 300 DVD's.

As this thread grows I will update this first topic with a list of users, what format they support, number of titles owned, and player.

I'm supporting Blu-ray by default, because I'll be getting a free player for it in the PS3 (and hopefully a free copy of Casino Royale to go with it). I'm borderline not supporting at the same time, because I don't see Blu-ray movies as impulse purchases for me at their current price point - I buy the vast majority of my DVDs in the three for £10 type sales at HMV and similar, so until HD movies hit that sort of price point my collection will remain small.

But seriously: not supporting any format at the moment. I'll eventually buy the format that wins. Right now it's too risky, expensive and (sometimes) fanboyish to really support a format.

bluray. I have about 18 titles here or in the mail.

No particular politics behind the switch. First I was HDDVD only as bluray releases were supposedly terrible. Then I got a PS3 so I was dual format, but preferred to buy on HDDVD as blind purchases were 'safer'.

But due to needing to buy a new amp I sold my toshiba E1 and discs. There are enough bluray movies to sustain me (plus I have HD movies via satellite) and so I'll wait to see if Universal come over.
And quality is much better than initial launch, so its a safe bet.



And I've sold most of my DVDs and have no intention of buying any more - its a dead end format so I won't throw more money into it than I already have.

ALL movies will benefit from HD.

I'm planning to buy a PS3 when it launches in the U.A.E , Dubai on March 23 so obviously I am supporting blu-ray. I also will definitely buy some blu-ray movies to take full advantage of the PS3's feature. Its there already so why not make use of it?

I'm supporting digital distribution because that is where the future is, for music, games and movies. It's already supplanting CD's as the preferred medium for music and it'll supplant disc based formats as the preferred medium for high definition video content.

I don't have a television, so pretty much if I want to watch movies it's going to be on my computer. It has a DVD drive. I pretty much only rent movies anyway, so it's going to be awhile before I start supporting Bluray.

My company is in the Bluray manafacturers alliance though.

I havent been all impressed with the Blu-Ray titles coming out. The only one right now I wish I had on HD DVD is Casino Royale.

Originally, I had no intention of supporting either format, but when I acquired a PS3, I decided to buy a movie to see how the quality was. I was reasonably impressed, and was even more so by the second title I picked up, The Departed, so I decided to switch over to Blu-Ray. However, I rarely bought any movies at all before I started watching Blu-ray movies. I only owned 3 DVDs: (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly), Pulp Fiction, and Reservoir Dogs.

I have 11 HD-DVDs and while i only have 2 Blu-Rays right now, casino royale is in the post and Rocky Balboa will be coming to me soon. since getting my PS3 i've bought more Blu-Rays than I have HD-DVDs.

Seriously, there so many better films to choose from. Hell, I would have been happy with Fifth Element despite it's low PQ.
