I support HD-DVD for the 360 player but, these companies have to learn not all movies have to have the HD treatment. So, I support DVD and HD-DVD for that reason...

HD-DVD owned:

Superman Returns
Apollo 13
Batman Begins
Fast and the Furious: Tokoyo Drift
Terminator 3
Serenity
King Kong

DVD's owned:

More than Blockbuster can stock! (stopped counting)

I'm in the Blu Ray camp, but that's mainly because I own a Playstation 3. I had no interest in getting involved in the format war otherwise.

I currently own seven titles:

Babel
Casino Royale
Chicago
The Departed
Ghost in the Shell: Innocence
Good Night, and Good Luck
X-men: The Last Stand

And have the following on pre-order:

Dreamgirls
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Volver

I still buy DVDs, too.

Curly , you haven't got a PS3 yet right? so you are just supporting as in "waving from the touchlines" for the moment or something?

I've got 14 Blu-ray movies and 11 HD DVD movies. I'm a movie fan first and foremost. Whatever has what I want to see, I'm buying it. Like I say, fence-sitting is for the weak.

Blu Ray, and the rationale is support.

Blu Ray has all the major studios locked down except for Universal. All Universal has to do is jump on the Blu Ray ship and end this sillyness. I have nothing against HD DVD, but it doesn't have the studio support Blu Ray has so it doesn't seem like a valuable commodity at the moment.

MY GOD, I didnt expect this topic to blow up this quickly as I posted it so late, jeez I was about to go to bed, but updated first, I am suprised how small the HD DVD list is so far. And GAFfers, please list your players, it would be nice to see who has the stand alone players on the lists.

I dont have one yet, but i have paid it off..
so technically i have a PS3 as the player and Royal Casino, which comes free with the PS3.

Blu-Ray PS3.. about 15 movies so far..

DVD. Even if I spring for an HDTV (which I really want to, but it's such a frivolous impulse) I'm certainly not supporting either format until it's 100% in one direction or the other.

The available libraries for HD and BR are cringe-worthy anyway. The things people buy...

I agree, which is why my BD collection will be very very small for the near future.

Even though I'm getting the Pirates movies, Volver on BD is what I'm most excited about.

PS3. About 55 titles thus far. Will exceed 60+ titles by the end of the month. My 5 year moratorium on buying movies is up and I'm catching up with a vengeance...

.k

Blu-ray, on a PS3 (of course)
About a dozen titles. Think I'm going to buy them very slowly (thanks to Netflix) but Amazon should be sending me Casino Royale soon (damn free shipping)...

When the beloved Criterion Collection makes its choice in which format to support you will have my answer.

I'm surprised at the support Blu-Ray is getting on this board. I'd at least expect HDDVD to be close with all the 360s out there.

HD DVD through the 360 add-on. I think I have about 8 movies now.

Babel
The Departed
Cinderella Man
King Kong
Batman Begins
Superman Returns
The Italian Job (only because of the HD Minis :D)
V for Vendetta (I knew there was an 8th)

There's one more that's slipping my mind I'm pretty sure. I don't know how someone could have 50+ titles for either format.. there's really a dearth of great titles on both sides, so to reach that you'd have to buy quite a few stinkers.

My back of the envelope reckoning is that the add-on has about a 2% attach rate, so even though there are probably more 360 owners here, far fewer have decided to spend $200 to play HD DVD...

I'd be format neutral if HD DVD came with my 360, but since it's an additional $200 investment for a gimped player to play what (IMHO) looks like a losing format...no thanks :)

PS3. 1080p via HDMI all the way.

When my six Amazon sale discs and Casino Royale pre-order arrive in the next couple days, I'll have 22 Blu-ray movies in the collection already.

I've done it pretty cheap too. Looking for deals, the most expensive movie I've bought is Casino Royale ($24 w/free shipping @ Amazon w/ the extra 10% off deal) and the vast majority have been well below $20 ea. (Thanks Amazon and Fry's!)

you can watch HD-DVDs in 1080p via HDMI for the record.

Blu-Ray

Like UMDs, I'll be able to find them for like £10 in cash convertors within weeks of the PS3 hitting pikey britain.

WTF!!! I DIDN'T KNOW INNOCENCE WAS OUT ON BLU RAY!!!!!
...dammit sure its an import though and aren't blu-rays not region free?

oh anyways, I support:

hd-dvd_logo.gif

- Mission Impossible Box set
- Batman Begins
- The Thing
- Corpse Bride
- The Polar Express
- Constantine
- King Kong
bluray.gif

- Crank
- Monster House
- Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
:)

basically it comes down the films and I'll watch them on whatever format they're on....Though at this point the war, I honestly am pessimistic about HD-DVD's future =/

I'm also very weary about my film purchases. Basically its really hard for me to find time to rewatch films I own (exception children's films for my son) so I'm REALLY picky about what I'll buy. I got a fair sized DVD collection of films that I prolly won't watch in the future and are just taking up space
I've become a big fan of almost exclusively renting and I adore Netflix :)

I'm supporting none of them, I think the new formats came in too fast. I'm perfectly satisfied with the quality and price of DVDs.

Dual-Format

HD-DVD (9 discs)
Blu-ray (16 discs)

Though yeah, I'd prefer it a single group one so I could stick to only buying 1 type of disc. Blu-ray looks like it's going to be the winner so I'll support that.
