Bluepoint Games bringing a "Sony classic" to current gen; next-gen "blockbuster" too

Threads like this remind me of how many kickass PS2/PSone games the PSN needs to add. And how much trophy support needs to come to everything.

I wonder if they're developing the next gen game or just porting it. LBP3 PS4 port with the PS3/Vita versions done by Sumo?

I like the way you think. Could definitely see this happening.

I hope Ape Escape is the "classic Sony franchise" though.

Good news for Bluepoint, although it seems hard to figure what that PlayStation classic would be?

Assuming it's a PS2 remaster (it just seems hard to imagine that Sony would hire anybody to go further back into the archive, although I do love that "Crash Bandicoot returns home" idea...), there's not a lot in the PS2 archive that hasn't already been revisited that still have cache. I mean, I loved the PS2 library, but a remastering of Downhill Domination or Kinetica or Frequency or Okage or Mark of Kri would just not be good business these days. Plus, everything Bluepoint has remastered so far for Sony has at least been a two-pack, so except for Freq/Amp (RIP to you both, even the P.O.D. version,) a one-off would be hard to package today.

And Killzone's already been done, as has Ico/Shadow, Jak, Ratchet, GoW, and Siren. I love SCE Bend and think the BP/Bend team-up on the "next-gen, blockbuster franchise" would be a dream, but Syphon Filter was only good on PS1 (and Syphon Filter Omega Strain is too dependent on online co-op.) Twisted Metal is off the docket for a while (and the PS2 version is already playable.) The ATV series was good but would have no place being remastered today. SCEA shafted SCEE back then so no way Airblade or Ghosthunter or even Primal would see a remake. 24: The Game has no chance, for obvious reasons. Ghost in the Shell would only be worthy if it was PS1 GitS. Gran Turismo seems an obvious choice until you realize there is absolutely no reason to go backwards. Uh, Jet Li Rise to Honor? My Street? Fantavision?

The only Sony titles I can see having a decent chance of revival are: Dark Cloud, but that series has sadly not stuck in minds like other premier titles (and Level-5 sadly seems to have put those kinds of games in its rearview mirror); and The Getaway, which has strong production values but is clearly one of those games that was neat in its day but has not aged gracefully. SOCOM seems a remote possibility too, but if it's only for single-player, it's ain't SOCOM.

Bluepoint did say current gen "systems", so it feels like you have to factor in how it'd play on both Vita and PS3, which leaves me split on the chances of War of the Monsters remastered: on one hand, it's good and would be right on to have on both platforms, but multiplayer would require patching into the Vita's wireless link play and I can't see that happening. I feel like it rules out the EyeToy Play library too, you can't just stand the Vita up and expect it to work like an EyeToy game.

Vib-Ribbon HD. I believe.

Everything's so fantastic

Just be on time"

They don't even need to remaster that sweetness, just make it work with MP3s and give it to the masses!

I'm going to say they are helping out on The Last Guardian. Development of that game sounds like a clusterfuck.

It's likely to be an HD Remaster for PS3. Maybe Ape Escape or Syphon Filter. If not, here are my thoughts on them making a new entry...

Plausible franchises:
- Jak and Daxter (Naughty Dog can't think of where to go with the series, but it was moderately successful for Sony)
- Syphon Filter (Sony seems to want to keep pushing the series, though I'd be surprised if Bend weren't the ones making it)

Not plausible franchises:
- Sly Cooper (If they wanted to make a fifth, they'd give it to Sanzaru)
- Ratchet and Clank (Insomniac will make them)
- Ape Escape (It would be developed by a Japan studio)
- MediEvil (Did not sell well enough to warrant a next-gen sequel)
- Legend of Dragoon (Sony has completely forgotten about the game and Bluepoint has zero experience at large-scale RPGs)

If Sony were still pushing Syphon Filter why was the franchise completely absent from PlayStation All-Stars? Every other IP you listed, including Legend of Dragoon were intended to be.

God of War 1 & 2 port to Vita? It has been announced but there were no recent news about it.

I hope I'm wrong though.

I can assure you that the All-Stars roster is totally unrelated to what first-party franchises Sony is interested in promoting/developing.

War of the Monsters.

Pacific Rim this summer, Godzilla the next, Kaiju Combat out a unspecific point in the future? Monsters are back.

At least I want them to be.

Well, the description says that they're bringing a Sony classic to current games systems, which would imply that it'll be on both the PS3 and Vita. So I think that'd rule GoW out. Plus the GoW collection has already been announced, so I don't see a reason why they couldn't just point that out specifically a what they're working on.

There are still some PS2 games left that haven´t seen a HD remaster yet.

Extermination
Dark Cloud/Dark Chronicle
Primal
Ghosthunter
Rogue Galaxy
The Mark of Kri

Would be cool if some of them got one.

What if they saw how cool Dart looked in that 3D model from PSASBR and they decided to do a crossplay hd remake of Legend of Dragoon??

Let me dream ;-;

They could combine The Mark of Kri with Rise of the Kasai; Rogue Galaxy with Dark Cloud 1 and 2; and Extermination/Primal/Ghosthunter in one package. I would buy those three packages in a heartbeat.

For sure its Jak 4.

I don't think this is a classic:
