I basically got RFTG just because i love puerto rico, and this is obviously very similar. It also just seemed more interesting that san juan. The rules to RFTG seem a bit rough, but i'm sure i'll get it eventually.

AstroLad said:I can't believe out of all you Intrigue-havin' fools none of you has picked up Rebel vs. Imperium yet. Ah well, my CSI order (Intrigue+RvI+etc.) gets here Friday. And I'm playing RvI FIRST. Damn straight.
I don't blame you. It is a pretty terrible gateway game. Going San Juan-->RftG though is cake. I always teach San Juan first now.Drey1082 said:As cool as RFTG seems, I can't get anyone to play me due to the daunting learning curve. It's not the rules that are too bad, it's the symbols that make people run for the hills. Dominion people can get in about 2 rounds of play.

RftG is just San Juan in space! I do agree that it's certainly more interesting though. Between RftG and Citadels, I don't use San Juan for too much anymore other than as a gateway game (which it's pretty damn good as).See San Juan didn't really interest me, since it just seemed like Puerto Rico lite. RFTG seemed like a better choice since it added some twists to make things interesting. Now though, i'm thinking i might want to pick up San Juan since people might actually give that game a chance, and hopefully move on from that to RFTG.

Ditto that.thesuperku said:Has anyone picked up Space Alert? I got it a while ago, but haven't been able to plow through the rules
thesuperku said:Hey, I work over at Games of Berkeley, we're a store that only does boardgames or card games, or basically any non-videogame games. Has anyone picked up Space Alert? I got it a while ago, but haven't been able to plow through the rules (left it at work). There was such a huge hype train for it and then it kinda fell off the map over at our place. Anyways, I look forward to posting here a bit more often, this is actually a thread topic I constantly work with.
I have yet to visit either GoB or Endgames. Online prices are too good to pass up.platypotamus said:When I stopped in Berkeley on my last drive through the bay area, I stopped in your store. Nice place!

I was thinking of getting the Twilight Struggle upgrade, but looking at the prices I might as well just order the new edition instead of all the upgrade components as it's only a couple dollars more.Fragamemnon said:ohhhh god GMT is having a blowout sale (thanks to a poster on QT3 for the tip-off):

Getting Carthage, Alesia and Glory III for sure, will probably throw in a preorder for the Twilight Struggle 2009 reprint and PQ-17 (my wife likes TS, and PQ-17 will probably be played only via Cyberboard/Vassal after I figure it out by myself).
Really good prices there. Might actually just gobble up some of the non-sale stock because 50% off is a really good discount-thinking about getting my dad a copy of Empire of the Sun for Christmas so we can PBEM it together.
First game that comes to mind is definitely Mr. Jack. Deceptively simple game where two players--Jack & the inspector--control characters on the board, with Jack trying to escape or outlast the inspector before having his character discovered. Lots of strategic depth even though the rules are quite straightforward. Includes Spanish rules and no in-game text.nbcjr said:Astrolad, need a recomendation.
* 2 player game
* english comprehension can't be mandatory, if spanish is available it's ok
No firsthand experience, but BGG says (keep in mind that BGG is essentially the GAF of boardgaming, so this stuff is the equivalent of "casual gaming shovelware" here):MasterAJ22 said:Don't feel like reading through for it, but I work at Toys R Us and we sell these and was wondering if any GAFfers can tell me how they are:

Funny because a few years back I played the following at an ex's house and we loved it, but said a full on version of Clue would be better. Is the Clue version better than this one?:

And then the second game I was wondering about:

Harry Potter Clue - 6.51/10 average, 29 ratings
Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone - 5.38/10 average, 94 ratings
Office DVD Board Game - 4.38/10 average, 12 ratings
Don't forget that BGG has suggested definitions for their ratings, though not all users necessarily adhere to the guidelines when rating something. A good amount of users seem to use the guidelines as a base at the least:platypotamus said:Also keep in mind that the site doesn't have the 7-10 scale that we're use to from video game sites. The highest rated game on there is an 8.28 at the moment, so Harry Potter Clue is actually rated fairly decently.
