Bob's game Kickstarter

I'm fairly sure that the reason he was always turned down from console publishing contracts is because he is very clearly insane and has no social skills, and yet doesn't realize it so he won't hire other people to talk to the companies on his behalf.

If this gets funded, he'll continue doing this for a year, then say that the project is still not where he wants it to be while lauding it as already the best thing mankind has ever created and scratches the whole thing for another 4 years.

Thats Bob.
Agreed. I still want to give $10 as thanks for his performance art, and in hopes of a few more funny updates before he gives up.

Read it as "Bob's Burgers game Kickstarter" for a bit and got really excited.

Just port BurgerBoss to modern digital storefronts.

I remember around the time this guy was popular that people speculated his insanity was all just a ploy for more attention. Was this proven? Is he actually the most successful troll in all of Internet-land? Or is he being serious and this is just a plea for help?

Isn't this the guy who locked himself in a room with a webcam and was trying to go on a hunger strike because Nintendo turned his game down?

I believe he admitted that the hunger strike thing was all a gimmick to get attention from the internet and Nintendo.

Read through his whole Kickstarter pitch and I'm confused. Is this still even the same RPG game he was making years ago or is it just a puzzle game now (like his failed other failed KS)?

Man, I remember when him and tim rogers almost got their car turned over by Lakers fans at one e3. They had a whole little documentary about that e3 trip on youtube. It was pretty cool, but they made it private for some reason.

Anyways, seems like the guy's not in a very good place mentally.

I remember or at least I think I do that this was happening during the Make Something Unreal contest where people actually had to win comps to get license to make and sell a game.

Soon after UDK game out, now the Unreal Engine 4 and Unity. Market is now saturated by games basically so the world is now a different place and he can't adapt to it.

Looking at the whole story, the level of narcissism is kind of astounding. Even beyond the out-of-game marketing stunts, the only selling point has always been "it's an RPG made by one guy." Never have we been given any indication of actual gameplay mechanics beyond that Tetris knockoff (which was inaccessibly difficult on the original 3DS demo).

It's a terribly intriguing story and I'd love to see a really in-depth interview with him, but this game is either going to never surface or will be a terrible pile.

Tempted to fund to see what happens. I'm all for solo developers making it happen.... but yeah, this has been an interesting one.

The guy is putting up an idiotic charade, but comments like that are a bit too much.

Well, I meant it figuratively, if that's anything. It's not like I want him to actually die or stuff. He's just gotten so far and tried so hard and
IN THE EEEEEEND IT DOESN'T EVEN MAAAATTERRRRRR

Man I'd love a bob's burgers game. I remember there was this game at my elementary school where you would run a hot dog stand. You had to hire people, buy the ingredients and big the baseball games that you went to based on weather and team popularity to make as much profit as you could. I loved that.

AY SHIT MAN!!! I TOTALLY REMEMBER A GAME LIKE THAT! DAMN! I know I've played that, and the hotdogs looked delicious! Dammit!

Wonder what's his opinion on Flappy Bird? A game made by one guy, who also kinda lost it.

At least Flappy Bird was a finished product that didn't sell itself as the last game we'd ever need. And the Flappy Bird author only lost it out of guilt after the fact. This 'Bob's Game' guy sounds like he lost it a long time ago, honestly.

Don't worry, Bob Pelloni's only pretending to be crazy. The beauty of performance art is you can pretend to be crazy and dumb and then after people say you're crazy and dumb, he can say: "Ha! I got you! I was only pretending to be crazy and dumb! I am the puppetmaster!". Fail to meet funding goal. Rinse. Repeat.

This guy seems mentally ill an he needs help. Feel bad for him, if he's seeing conspiracies and stuff like that he's off the deep end.

Best thing for him is to go back to Michigan where he can hopefully get the help he needs.

Isn't self publishing a thing Sony allows on Vita/PS3/4 and Nintendo is making an effort for on WiiIU?
Shouldn't he try these channels if he's STILL TRYING TO MAKE THIS GAME HOLY SHIT.

A normal person would have just developed this game for PC already.
He could already have Bob's Game 4 out by now.
Not that anyone would care because the game was horrible last time I played it.

The tech stuff is kind of neat for the work of one, clearly disturbed individual.

The writing is rambling and confused and this guy really could benefit from some proper therapy.

I'm not a fan of Kickstarter stuff to begin with, but his Kickstarter page is more of a rambling sob story than a compelling argument to fund his vanity project. I think he'd have a better chance had he had someone else write it for him. Then again he doesn't seem like the type who works well with others.

I want to play this just to get a glimpse inside the mind of a lunatic.

He's the very meticulous kind of whackjob also, where everything must be perfect, so the game will at least be functional.

I'm wondering about this, since it seems like he's friends with Tim Rogers in some way. That writeup almost sounds like something offputtingly self-aggrandizing that Tim might write, so maybe he really is having a laugh and watching reactions. Then again, maybe he really does want to just make video games in a van down by the river...

I can't believe this guy's still going at this. And 60 people actually paid money for this? Also, take a shot for every time "bob's game" is mentioned in the description.

I've never heard of Bob's Game before today, but reading about it is fascinating with some of the things that have happened to this guy. I feel like he should really give up on this game.

http://bobsgame.com/

started emailing with a small publisher for the DS. I signed their NDA. They told me to apply for Nintendo licensing, and their guys would rewrite the game for me to make it marketable. It was the most depressing email exchange I had ever had in my life.

The App Store was released for the iPhone.

My friend brought some of his college buddies to the office. We ate psilocybin mushrooms and LSD a few times, and one time both at once! Suddenly, I remembered and fully understood what I was making. It woke me back up and opened my heart, gaining my memories and thoughts back, if only temporarily. I didn't yet understand what had happened, but it had worked.

Ok...
He makes good music though.

Problem is he tried to shoehorn his way onto a console. Had he waited a few years he'd have half a dozen or so different easy to access routes for getting the game out there. There's so many app stores now on pretty much everything from phones to some consoles. Many with relatively cheap entry points.

Why does everyone think they need a Kickstarter? Especially Bob, who already has the game pretty much coded.

Edit: Sometimes I miss Drinky Crow.

Wow. Went to his site to read his story and dude literally wrote a novel on his site. More than 55,000 words. This is becoming a saga of fascinating proportions.

Last time I checked his game (platform masters) was coming along, but he seems to spend way too much time worrying about minor details and overlooks really obvious ones, like the complete lack of animations etc.

He basically build an entire engine/editor from scratch...

At least he's got good advice:
However - By this time, I think that it makes more sense for aspiring game developers to use an engine like Unity3D, not Java

Time for re-inventing the wheel is over. Modern development is a lot more focused on productivity.

Anyone can do that these days if they have programming knowledge.

See: Concerned Joe

Built in Löve2d by people who aren't batshit insane with an editor as robust as any you could find.

And I'm sure Team Meat, Phil Fish and Jon Blow also created their own editors when needed.

I've always been kind-of fascinated/concerned/amused by this guy and his life and work, and I was kind of enjoying reading his epic and undoubtedly truthful http://bobsgame.com life story...

...right up until the part where he accidentally suffocated a kitten, at which point I realized, you know what, think I'm good. That said, I'm glad to see some self-reflection. Good luck with everything, Bob.
