Bodycount - from the creators of Black

Those screens aren't really inspiring.

I wish this will be another exagerrated shooter gun porn with everything exploding and nothing making sense except killing the shit out of anything that moves around.
Those real mindless shooters don't exist anymore and they are the best. Fuck cover and shoot, fuck tactical shooting, fuck anything else. I need a Doom-like fix of exagerrated action and shooting.

The original Black was called the link between the PS2 generation and this one by some, but honestly, I was never that impressed so we'll see if this is worth any attention at all.

For me the problem with Black is that while the tech behind was impressive(I suppose), artistically it was incredibly bland.

This is headed up by a studio led by Stuart Black? Hmm, wasn't it recently announced that he's just up and left to join City Interactive's London branch?

Yup, Stuart Black left in October along with the GM on the project. I have no clue if the game has been retooled since Black's departure but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case.

okay... still have no idea what bodycount will be for a shooter and how it will look in gameplay.

maybe just focus on stuf that actually makes sense?

So I take it you don't like most videogames?

:lol :lol ^^^ pretty much.

I'm definitely more a lover than a hater, but that trailer honestly reminded me of comics I would draw up when I was eight.

I'm confused on how this is anymore ridiculous than any other teaser for a shooter. In fact I would say this is tame by comparison.

Actually, I propose a contest based on this trailer.

What is going on in Bodycount?

Make it no linger than 3 paragraph and we'll see who will win

Ouch. He was the project lead right? The guy who swears a lot and was uber excited in the interviews and things early this year?

This really doesn't bode well...

If they're going for over the top action, I think Bulletstorm will beat them to the punch.

OK, so this is the story:

- the game is set in the near future against the backdrop of a world that's coming to the end of its natural life cycle. It's not post apocalyptic like Mad Max - rather it's a world that's coming to the end of strip-mining resources from third-world countries, and people are getting savvier to how governments operate

- an ex forces guy who's been recruited into an organisation called The Network which goes into conflict zones around the world and mops up the problems the United Nations can't be bothered with

- you find there's more to the civil conflicts that are erupting around the world than meets the eye and you slowly uncover an advanced and vicious organisation hell-bent on causing conflict throughout the world and imprinting its own ideology on it

I want aliens damnit, no De Beers Company space-age troops.

Heres the Eurogamer hands-on:

"Bad Company 2 on steroids" sounds interesting though.

Checked out the trailer on Xbox Live, kinda liked what a saw.

Seems like a fast-paced, balls-out shooter full of explosions. It also has some interesting Euro-styling in some of the environments and angular enemy designs.

Loved Black. Looking forward to see how this turns out.

Hopefully its nothing like Brink. I got burned big time when I purchased that piece of shit.

Hopefully there will be a demo.

Really? I think Brink is a niche masterpiece on many levels. SMART movement is one of the best things to come along since Mirror's Edge's free running interpretation. Not to mention, Brink has some of the most gorgeous weapon designs in the genre.

I accept, though, that it's not for everyone. And very much at home on the PC.

But yes, the cover mechanic in Bodycount is what I'm very much interested in...quite intrigued to try it out.

SMART movement wasn't taken full advantage of thanks to mediocre level design.

And the actual shooting and 'feel' of the guns wasn't great.

I don't think the game is a piece of shit, but I was disappointed by how little I wanted to play it a few weeks after release.

I can accept the level design, and to a lesser extent, the feel of the guns themselves, but for some reason, the team dynamics and the gameplay resonated for me.

A few videos I've dug up for perusal:

Gamespot Interviews // Jane Douglas interviews Game Director Andy Wilson and Art Director Max Cant on Bodycount.

Another Andy Wilson interview.

I've realised why I like certain aesthetic aspects of Bodycount...it's the visual design it shares with Coded Arms and its lesser sequel, Contagion. Unassuming titles, but the first remains one of the most addictive games I've ever played.

Hype building exponentially.

i really LOVED Black back in the day, so i had high hopes for this one.
I tried it at E3, and it really kinda sucked.

The art direction in the levels à la Tron is AMAZING, but unluckily the game is split between those parts and the average modern warfare like settings (that feel dull, boring and terribly unattractive).
Overall the graphics are pretty meh, the gameplay wasn't looking so hot, so i'll definitely pass.

The thing that struck me the most is the title screen, which is frankly awesome. :p
