Bundles of Awesome - The Official WiiWare Discussion Thread

Just downloaded the Space Invaders DLC, and I must say that this was totally worth it. Basically, each of the 3 additional packs (500 points each) add 2 missions, which are comprised each of 2 levels + one boss. This means including the starter pack (2 levels + 1 boss, for 500 points), you end up with 14 levels + 7 bosses, effectively multiplying the game volume by around 7 for 4 times the price of the starter pack in the end...
Oh, and did I mention the additional ships ? There are 3 of them, and besides the "Classic" ship, these aren't simple reskins. In fact, the R-Gray1 and the SilverHawk both allow you too play the game like an old-school shooter. The R-Gray1 attacks with beams and homing missiles, while the SilverHawk send energy waves and drops bombs on the enemies below. These spaceships actually kick so much ass, that your score isn't saved when you play with them, though you can still progress in the game and unlock levels with them.
To be honest, after getting the additional packs, I just don't think it's worth it to pay to get only the starter pack (which feels pretty much like a demo) if you don't intend to get the rest of the game through the additional packs. The game ends up relatively pricey (compared to the other Wiiware games), and heavy, but I thought it was worth the price, as the game feels pretty complete and is just really damn fun.

More experimental stuff. Don't know exactly what I mean with this though.

RPGs? What kind of RPG would work on WiiWare? o.O

More of the crap Kemco's doing? Even if they were 2D I don't see how it'd work on a WiiWare budget.

Maybe episodic stuff, like SE does with Japanese cellphones.

Edit: completely beaten.

I don't know what you are talking about. Are you saying that a full 2D RPG can't be made on Wiiware?

You do realize that Wiiware has full featured games like Megaman 9, My life as a king, World of goo, Cave Story, etc.

Shorter, episodic RPGs, like FFIV: The After or Eldorado Gate.

Ah right, I forgot about that. I'm not expecting too much on the RPG front on WiiWare honestly but small stuff like this makes sense.

Got Orbient, it's pretty cool. Played to stage 15 earlier today and when resuming now I just noticed that if you finish the stage with a moon it gets yellow colored instead of blue.

My OCD got tickled and now I'm replaying the ones where I didn't get the moon because of that. :lol

Getting all the moons is needed to unlock stuff too. I haven't bothered with it because some of the moons are really annoying to collect.

I cleared the main mode in Roto Hex and unlocked a "Sprint" mode, which is hard as fuck.

I'd love to see a fully top down pointer controlled RPG on Wiiware. It wouldn't even have to be episodic if they lkeep the graphics simple enough.

Good to know, thanks.

Aside from that, perhaps Space Invaders Get Even?
I hope so.

Any idea on what Monday's update could be?

also: BUY WORLD OF GOO

++

If you don't own Super Mario Galaxy and World of Goo, you are a disgrace to gamers. Two of the best games this generation IMHO.

Just beat the final boss and every mission in Space Invaders G. E. and yeah, the game was pretty awesome. The fact is that I'm usually not a shoot-em up fan at all, but this one was just so damn fun (and seriously hardcore at times too), I don't regret getting it one bit. Anyway, now to replay the entire game with the R-Gray1, just for the lulz :p .

Oh, by the way, the Wiiware World review, which summarizes all that pretty well :

Anyone get Alien Crush Returns yet?
I bought it (after having to clean out my fridge for the first time). I never played the original so can't comment on that, but have played Williams PHOF to death and loved Pinball Fantasies/Illusions/Dreams. Alien crush does a pretty good job as a pinball game, kinda wish there were more tables and better indicators of how to increase your score, but overall it is a competent pinball game with a unique twist. The boss fights are really cool and the ball action specials work well as does the motion control.

The ESRB has now started adding descriptions for many games, and thus pretty much confirms that Jungle Speed and Tiki Towers are WiiWare games just from their descriptions.

Looks like we know this Monday's WiiWare games already:

- Strong Bad 4 - Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective
- Target Toss Pro Bags

Both confirmed by WiiWare World.

-Brain Challenge™ (Gameloft, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points)
Brain Challenge is actually pretty good if you like that sort of "game". It's much better than the DS version.

I'm also still enjoying Tetris. The shadow mode is interesting, but the climbing (or whatever it's called) mode is very fun.

I noticed that the aquarium "game" is still getting a lot of purchases. It is much of a game or worth just watching as a screen saver. I ask because I'm gonna have 800 points left on the Wii I'm giving my in-laws and am not sure what else to get them.

Haha, so this is how the guys in the VC thread feel. Looks like I should stop waiting for Space Invaders... When it comes, it comes.

one of the two wiiware purchases (out of a whole bunch) i regret making. a rather feeble attempt at an anquarium, no offense meant for anybody.

Orbient is nice but since it can be very slow paced at times I felt it wasn't what I was looking for at the moment. Will play it more in the future.

Then I got Cubello and it's exactly what the doctor ordered. So fun and stylish.

Still thinking if I should get Tetris Party later.

What kinds of games do you guys want to see on wiiware?

Shit I can play with my wife:
1. Bejeweled
2. Who wants to be a millionaire?
3. Trivia/Party Games

Easy, Hardcore, Awesomeness:
1. Aerobiz
2. Any simple -Tycoon style games. There's a game out in Japan right now where you run a clothing store and pick out outfits for people. You get money from sales and charm. I want games like this. Simple, addictive, fun.
3. Tower Defense games. C'mon devs.

As pointed out elsewhere, the Nintendo Channel has been updated.

Anyone have any idea what changed?

It takes up one less block of memory and the interface for the DS demo downloads is slightly different. I haven't noticed anything else yet.

I would love to see the original Donkey Kong arcade game on WiiWare. The NES version is a pale imitation of the arcade game. Also an updated take on DK arcade, ala Pac-Man CE and Space Invaders Extreme, would be cool. :D

I want Animales de la Muerte, not some spacey float-like-a-giant-pussy collectathon garbage.

I just like killing shit

What happened to Animales de la Muerte.
I thought it was due out in like Sept. :(

I expect World of Goo to hit PAL WiiWare on December 12th, the retail version (PC) is going to be released on the 11th.
Do we know if this retail PC version will still include extra levels?

If IGN's release dates are to be believed, tomorrow should see the release of Space Invaders Get Even.
It was confirmed last week when we got nothing but crap.
