Bungie: Destiny's graphics are different from platform to platform

I like how the thread title is directly contradicted by the underlined, bold text.

Yeah, thread title draws a conclusion not proven by the article. Given that this title is going to be split-gen and on PC (I think?), there will absolutely be differences between platforms, but which they're speaking of is totally vague.

I'd love to see each platform have its strengths pushed, but it's unclear what this really means. Certainly doesn't say what the thread title says.

Platform differences in Destiny are very important to me. I want the very best Destiny experience possible, and then I have to 'sell' that version to all my friends so we can play together. The sooner these details are made public, the better.

What is stated in the article:

What isn't clear is whether this means between the PS4 and Xbox One

What thread title says:

Bungie: Destiny's graphics are different between PS4 and Xbox One (as is asked in the question Ryan's responding to) or between the next-gen and current gen versions.

What Bungie employee says which could be just referring to the 360 version:

The graphics are different, obviously, platform to platform, but in a connected world, the game of Destiny is going to be awesome on all of them.

Just saying.
lol and he even bolds and underlines the point that contradicts his thread title

I will have a field day shoving it in the ppls faces that believe that Cloud computation bs about making graphics better and the Xbone 3 times more powerful, smh. After all the lies and bs ppl still seem to belive anything their favorite company says!!! I just dont understand it.

Vidya gaems are sirius bizniss.

How so? PS4 is going to have vastly superior multiplatform games in most cases.

Even if the difference is 60 FPS ill take it i cannot wait to see Doom4 though that will be the kicker Carmack pushed doom 3 to the max and seeing how different the two versions would be is exciting or even if there is a xbox version Doom4 is slated for next gen and pc but who says it has to be on both consoles

I think people are reading too much into this. He's probably talking about minor features and such. Obviously each console will have things that each does differently which will result in a slightly different look. Hell we ran into that this gen with some multiplatform games.

Also for anyone saying it doesn't look impressive it does but in different ways. Bungie's never really put out what you'd call an insanely amazing looking game by most people's standards. Where they excel is that they put a ton of shit in. Hell even Halo 3 you could pretty much go anywhere you saw if you removed the barriers. That is where Bungie puts their graphical power. They put so much going on in the world that it really is amazing how much is going on at any given time. It gives their games a beauty that most don't recognize till well after they've moved on.

While I don't doubt that the game will look nicer on PS4, the title chosen by Nowgamer is highly disingenuous.

Nowhere in his reply did he indicate that he was talking about differences between PS4 and Xbone specifically.

The question was:

What kind of special features can we expect for PS4/Xbox One?

They are talking about the "new" things on next gen consoles against current gen consoles.

And the answer:

WeÂ’re not committing right now to any specific platform features. The great thing for us with timing is that we were making a new engine, and then two new consoles were coming out, which led us to invest more into making the new engine for it. There are a whole bunch of great opportunities for us to go after, like full player experiences, etc. WeÂ’re investigating all of those and building the core experience of Destiny, which will be similar across all the platforms. The graphics are different, obviously, platform to platform, but in a connected world, the game of Destiny is going to be awesome on all of them.

IMO, they are saying that both PS4/One have different graphics than current gen versions.

I predict a 200 page thread about Bungie saying nothing about what platforms or how they look different. They could mean One/PS4 to 360/PS3.

so many people seem to be in denial of this. thinking the versions will be negligibly different, or 'each with it's own advantages'. the first few months of DF head to heads on PS4 vs Xbone games are going to be brutal for those still somehow expecting the PS4 won't demonstrate an advantage time and again.

I know right, it's like a crusade or something lol. There's been 3 or 4 threads like this so far today.

OT; I'm expecting PC => PS4 => X1 >>>>> 360/PS3

I still fully expect the game to look amazing on all next gen platforms.

It's a solid reach from the OP. The way he answers it can lead to imply whatever you like, though I'm seeing it more as a generation vs generation thing.

For some reason I think this game will underperform.

Game has the Activision marketing muscle, "from the makers of Halo and Call of Duty", and releases on at least four platforms (PS3, PS4, 360, XBone).

It's guaranteed to sell at least a couple million IMO. If they are expecting this to be CoD level with over 20 million in sales, then yea it'll probably underperform.

I wonder... isn't it easier to just make a game for Xbone's spec then do a straight port to PS4, or will devs actually utilize PS4's power like Bungie seems to be?

I hate the design philosophy behind the Xbox One as much as the other guy but I really don't think he was referring to PS4 vs One graphics in this particular case.

If you read the original source it is clear:

What kind of special features can we expect for PS4/Xbox One?

It is not a "PS4 vs XBO", it is Next Gen vs Current Gen.

They? who?

Anyone making a console game can run dedicated servers for the multiplayer. I don't know why this is such a confusing statement to you. That Sony likely won't provide dedicated servers as Microsoft are doing, doesn't mean that the games won't run on dedicated servers.

The technology available to Microsoft is available to Sony should they want to pursue it.

Should they want to.
