Bust A Move for Wii supports 8 players says Kohler!

Another Taito franchise moves to Wii, courtesy Majesco. Everybody loves Bust-a-Move, even if you're a broke college student and you only know it as "Snood". Bust-a-Move for Wii brings all the modes you remember, from the regular ol' arcade mode to the puzzle stages, adds a dash of motion control, then caps off the whole thing with a crazy eight-player mode.

Yeah, you heard me -- eight players. Wii doesn't support eight Wiimotes at once, but if you're willing to get up close and personal with your fellow geeks, all you need are four nunchuk attachments. We didn't try that particular feature out, but we did make the other six players computer-controlled, and let me tell you, eight-player Bust-a-Move is nuts. By that point, there's very little point in actually aiming the bubbles that you're blasting -- just shoot at the UFOs that cross the screen, and when there aren't any, launching a volley of bubbles in any direction and crossing your fingers can be the way to go.

Motion control works well -- within a couple of seconds you won't even be thinking about it anymore; your cursor will just be going right where your brain wants it to. I was impressed, even though it's a simple thing. Well, not that simple, to which anyone who's used Super Monkey Ball's menu screen can attest.

Yeah, that's the best picture of all of mine. It was so much fun that I didn't want to put down the Wiimote to take a clear shot, so I did them one-handed. I wouldn't say that this is a killer app for Wii, but it's certainly fun enough to warrant further looks as it gets closer to release. Majesco currently batting two for two.

And touche on that Snood remark.

IGN says the game will be in April or May for $39.99.

er why couldn't Majesco just add gamecube controller support for the extra 4 players?
It sounds like it's pretty focused on the motion-basedness, so I guess GCN controllers or Classic controllers in place of nunchuks wouldn't cut it?

Bust-a-move 2 was the last entry I got, and it was pure awesomeness.
Here is hoping this game turns out to be just as great if not better.

Oh and 8-player mode must be the coolest thing in a Bust-A-Move game ever ^^.
Now all we need is 2vs2 wiimote+nunchuck mode and I'm set.

This game is going to be really fun to play with 7 friends. I can't wait.

It's nice to see it be only $40 too, but I hope they'll add some kind of standard versus mode as well.

They need to make a 2-player horror game like this. One person (preferably your girlfriend) controls the Wiimote as the flashlight, you use the nunchaku to move around.

I was just listening to IGN's podcast and they weren't sure how the eight player worked.
"uh, I guess there's some sort of multitap coming out for it" *rollseyes*

Nunchuk is a decent idea. :) I wonder whether this could be used for a version of Bomberman. The two-button controls from Bomberman 93 work great, so it should be feasible for another means of getting more players in. 10 players ftw!

The Wii manual actually states that you can have upto 16 Wiimotes synched to a single Wii. But is it still only able to use 4 at a time or could a developer use as many as 16 if the gameplay design worked around that many controllers?

thats odd as bluetooth devices usually only sync up to 7 or 8 devices iirc

This sounds pretty cool! Although for a puzzle game, i'd hope they sell it for around 50$AU, very unlikely, but i wouldn't pay full price for a puzzle game.

Maybe you can have 16 that "belong" to that Wii (via the sync buttons) but only use four at a time?

Don't have my manual handy, but I'm guessing that's what it means.
